We have been using it in small environments, and it is stable, straightforward to deploy, and scalable for our needs
Pros and Cons
  • "The backup and replication features are most valuable."
  • "I would like them to move back to host licensing."

What is our primary use case?

We use it for backup and replication in small environments.

How has it helped my organization?

It has not improved anything. It is just a backup solution. Our customers needed something for disaster recovery in case something bad happens. It is something they needed, and it is something they have got.

What is most valuable?

The backup and replication features are most valuable.

What needs improvement?

I would like them to move back to host licensing.

Everything should improve over time as new functionalities come along. The product needs to follow new technologies and integrate them.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using this solution for about 10 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is stable. It is almost fire-and-forget.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We don't have experience with large environments. We only have small environments with a host of virtual machines. It is scalable for our use. There is no problem.

Its users are system administrators. Any increase in its usage would depend on the pricing. Veeam has changed its licensing policy. With their universal licensing, things have become a bit expensive. It is a free market, so we'll see.

How are customer service and support?

It should be good, but we have not used it.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We also use other products. This is not the only one. We use Micro Focus Data Protector, Arcserve UDP, and Microsoft Data Protection Manager.

Microsoft Data Protection Manager is more windows-oriented. It is not as good as Veeam for sure, but it is good enough for certain environments.

How was the initial setup?

It was quite straightforward. We are using it in relatively small environments. These are not big installations.

It took a few hours. The deployment is quick, but you have to test everything and make sure everything works.

What about the implementation team?

We are an integrator. For its deployment and maintenance, one system administrator is enough.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We try to use perpetual licensing, and there are no additional costs.

They have recently moved to universal licensing, which is more expensive, and I would like them to go back to host licensing.

What other advice do I have?

I would advise others to decide for themselves if it checks all the boxes.

I would rate it an eight out of 10 because it is now more expensive with universal licensing.

Backs up every application we own, scales quite well, and has excellent stability
Pros and Cons
  • "The feature that is most useful for us is that it backs up every application that we own."
  • "Within their product lineup, they need to consolidate down to one product. Veritas doesn't have one product that does everything. So, Veritas can do everything, but you basically need to run two products. I would like them to combine all the capabilities into one release."

What is our primary use case?

I'm using it in our company. We're a government-owned entity.

In terms of version, it would be N minus two. We are probably two versions off the latest one.

What is most valuable?

The feature that is most useful for us is that it backs up every application that we own.

What needs improvement?

Within their product lineup, they need to consolidate down to one product. Veritas doesn't have one product that does everything. So, Veritas can do everything, but you basically need to run two products. I would like them to combine all the capabilities into one release.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for at least seven years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability of the product has been excellent over the years. In the last three years, the product has been very stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Its scalability is fine. It is an enterprise solution. It is for large data centers or large deployments. So, it scales quite well.

We have six people in the infrastructure team who work with this product.

How are customer service and support?

Their technical support is very good.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have worked with Commvault and Arcserve, and when compared to these products, Veritas is better.

How was the initial setup?

Its initial setup was straightforward.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It is slightly more expensive than Commvault, but it is pretty much the same. It is an enterprise solution, so it scales quite well. It has a lot of features. So, you pay for what you get. It is not cheap, but it is fit for the purpose.

What other advice do I have?

If you are a pure cloud place or if you are running a pure cloud enterprise where you have no on-premise solutions, I would advise other products. If you are running hybrid, like many of the data centers are still running hybrid, and you have a lot of on-premise workloads or very large Oracle workloads like we do, you can run Veritas. You will have no issue. If you're a new green site or you're a startup or a green site, I would run Veeam or Rubrik because it is all-new.

I would rate Veritas NetBackup an eight out of 10.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

Can be easily installed and is stable and scalable
Pros and Cons
  • "The initial setup is very straightforward."
  • "Integrations maybe helpful for NAKIVO. I think end-to-end backup and user backup will be useful to have. The price could be reduced as well. I also think that AD integration should be more available."

What is our primary use case?

I use it for day-to-day backup tasks.

What is most valuable?

The initial setup is very straightforward. I love the Linux version as well. Also, NAKIVO is scalable and stable.

What needs improvement?

Integrations maybe helpful for NAKIVO. I think end-to-end backup and user backup will be useful to have. The price could be reduced as well. I also think that AD integration should be more available.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with Nakivo for a year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is a stable solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

NAKIVO is scalable.

How are customer service and technical support?

I have found the technical support to be satisfactory.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was easy and straightforward.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

From the perspective of Indian users, the cost is a little bit high.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I looked at Veeam and Arcserve.

What other advice do I have?

The licensing cost may be high, but the setup is easy.

On a scale from one to ten, I would rate this solution at eight.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises
