We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Our customers are happy with the product’s functionality.""It is easy to configure.""The most valuable feature of Arcserve UDP is the initiative UI and the logs are clear and detailed that are generated when there has been an issue or failure on the user's system. We only have to log onto the client's system to retrieve the information. It is possible to precisely identify the problem's location. The system categorizes and logs every step in a structured manner, selectively displaying only the essential logs. However, to view a comprehensive log, one must access the line machine log and examine the actual client for detailed logging.""It is a very stable solution...It is a scalable solution.""The backup is the most valuable feature. It also makes storage very easy.""The ease of use is the best feature of the product.""This product is extremely user-friendly and it is capable of performing large-scale archive/backup (five+ years worth). It is easy to store, maintain, and check backups.""I would recommend it if there is a general case."

"Real-time synchronization is a good feature.""The product is user-friendly.""It's very easy to set up the storage across all platforms. This allows us to be dynamic and change on-the-fly.""We specialize in Commvault and IntelliSnap. Commvault covers all our customers' backup needs in one system, and they have complete control over their Snapshot backups. Snapshots are important to our customers because of the size of their data sets.""The Command Center is provided from the web interface. You can back up the data for everybody, but also you can give everybody the ability to view and restore their data. For example, if a laptop, machine, or environment is owned by X, then X can look in and see the environment and data that he has backed up. He can see everything that he owns and can manage the environment as he wishes. It gives him an excellent view of his environment and infrastructure. Also, if you are a service provider, you can back up data for multiple companies and give everyone an interface for their environment to manage, backup, and restore data. Commvault has done excellent work in this area.""The user interface is very easy to navigate.""Commvault HyperScale X is also a good choice for regulations that require the backup system to be isolated from the rest of the infrastructure.""What is most valuable to me are the search features, where you can search through large backup data sets and find what you're looking for. Our data sets are so big that we're over the petabyte mark. To find a specific file for a specific user out of 10,000 users is a challenge... If we can glean from them a general description of where it might be, the search feature comes in very handy to actually locate it and restore it for them."

Cons
"The product is not user-friendly.""The solution could improve by being more user-friendly. It can be difficult to assign destinations and choose which files and folders we need to back up. There are some aspects that are unclear.""They could work on their marketing approach. I don't see many people leveraging it.""It should be easier to switch between backup locations. We have multiple data storage locations and sometimes one of those storages need to be replaced. It would be nice if they made it easier to reconfigure the backup configuration.""The tool doesn't provide cloud integration in India.""Arcserve UDP is in the middle range of complexity. The interface can be developed a little bit more to be user-friendly.""The solution can use a lot of bandwidth when the scheduling is not done, it should auto-schedule itself. For example, if there are 50 users connected in the network at 12 o'clock and the backup is not scheduled. At this time the network offices are going to have performance issues when it is doing a backup. Having a feature to auto-schedule a time when the network is not being used often would be beneficial.""The solution's reporting could be improved and should provide customized reports."

"I would like more communication informing us on what Commvault is doing in the background.""They can improve the VMware recovery and VMware backup. There is an improvement area on the VMware infrastructure. They can make available what they call a VSA proxy. They can have an appliance-type setup to deploy VSA backups and help recover quicker. They can have an appliance ready. Instead of having to have a server dedicated to that and installing software on a server, they can just provide an actual appliance for that.""I would assess the Command Center as a very useful but sometimes difficult tool. It is multipurpose. It has all the features of logging and monitoring, especially for the actual setup. For us, it is easy because we work daily with it, but for customers who only use it once a week, they sometimes have some difficulties. Command Center is not user-friendly for beginners.""This is not a very high standard product.""They reply to the support portal weekly, but there are some delays.""Support could improve and the initial configuration would be easier with assistance from a professional engineer.""We get an alarm if a lot of files are deleted, for example. That could look like ransomware, even if it is not.""The price of Commvault HyperScale X could improve."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "I do not work with the pricing or licensing issues of the solution for our organization."
  • "We only have the maintenance of three standard UDP licenses. Each license is 50 Euro. There are some additional costs for the storage and software but it has nothing to do with the UDP."
  • "Normally our customers purchase the premium plus license, rather than the standard one, which provides more options."
  • "The price of this product is high and it should be lower."
  • "It is approximately $400 to purchase a virtual service outright."
  • "There is an annual license required for this solution and it is priced well."
  • "Pricing is most likely comparable."
  • "The retail fee is $1300 for a year for one server. Other than that, there is just the cost of your hardware."

  • "If budget allows using the per socket license and not the agent based with per GB counter for Dedup is the way to go."
  • "There is now a subscription based licence option that, depending on your environment, could offer a more efficient method to licence the solution if you are OPEX cost driven rather than CAPEX."
  • "New licensing is easy and affordable."
  • "Licensing could be better explained. Sometimes, it's unclear what features are available in different licensing models."
  • "Compared to other competitors and vendors the pricing is fair."
  • "In my experience, compared to solutions like Veritas and Veeam, while they do have their technical pluses and minuses, Commvault can save you on average forty percent initially, and then twenty to twenty-five percent annually."
  • "The price could perhaps be lower as well."
  • "Our cost is around $20,000 per month. The previous year, it was around $30,000 per month. It now costs less because Commvault changed the licensing type for providers."
