Cost savings and efficient decompression but needs better cloud integration
Our primary use case for Arcserve UDP is its decompression feature, which helped us save money by reducing storage needs. Despite moving to cloud applications, we have been using Arcserve UDP for backup and disaster recovery Arcserve UDP has helped our organization save considerable amounts of…

Managed services with seamless integration and good reliability
Since I have to view everything on the console, the previous application solutions like IBM and Sanavi showed the RPO and RTO status directly. In AWS Disaster Recovery Service, these details are not available, making it difficult to check my replication status. I have to calculate whether my data is replicated to the Adarabad region or not. These features, if available in AWS, would be beneficial.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The standard backup and restore feature is most used."
"The most valuable feature is the duplication."
"The interface is very refined, works fine, and is very intuitive most of the time. Scalability is nice. The multi-tenancy feature is very welcome. The integration with Linux works fine too."
"It allows us to back up all the servers and centrally manage them."
"It is easy to configure."
"One of the things that I do like about it is that it has a very good deduplication feature."
"The product's deployment process was straightforward."
"I would recommend it if there is a general case."
"I appreciate the automated orchestration of recovery processes in this solution, especially integration with Route 53 and automatically using Route 53 to switch to a different region directly."
"AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery is a robust and reliable solution for disaster recovery needs."
"Technical support has been very good. They usually respond quickly to our requests."
"Customer service is quite helpful."
"We went from an organization with minimal to no disaster recovery. I was able to spin up the disaster recovery environment with AWS rather quickly and meet business requirements."
"What I like about ECR AWS is that it is a fully managed service, so I don't need to manage the underlying infrastructure or worry about scalability in AWS concerning building, maintenance, security, and high availability."
"The setup is pretty straightforward."
"The initial setup is pretty straightforward, it's not complex."

Cons

"The problem is just reliability. If the promises in the marketing material were realized in real life, it would be the perfect solution, but it's just the reliability issues."
"The support could be more knowledgeable and faster."
"The product is not user-friendly."
"They could work on their marketing approach. I don't see many people leveraging it."
"The solution can improve by allowing older versions to support the latest version of the OS."
"One of the biggest drawbacks of Arcserve UDP is that it does not have a single console, making it an area that needs to be considered for improvement."
"Based on my experience, whenever we need support, there are difficulties with communication when trying to resolve the issue."
"I think that the price could still be a bit cheaper and I do not like that they have been purchased by Arcserve."
"Definitely there should be better logging. From a customer perspective I would like to see more logs on what is happening. If there is an issue, I would like to know what the problem is. Right now, we have to depend on the support of the vendor to check and let us know, because we don't have access to a lot of logging information."
"The cost of AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery is seen as expensive."
"I have not seen any areas that need improvement at this time."
"The UI could be a little sleeker."
"The failback could be improved. It should be more intuitive."
"The user interface, customer support, and the recovery time for the current customer query could use improvement."
"In its current state, ECL integrates with CloudWatch for basic logging and monitoring, yet improvements could include more detailed logs for specific actions, like when I perform actions such as push or pull."
"The solution's network setup and a lot of the control tower setup could be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solution is expensive."
"Normally our customers purchase the premium plus license, rather than the standard one, which provides more options."
"The price of this product is high and it should be lower."
"I do not work with the pricing or licensing issues of the solution for our organization."
"The solution is very expensive."
"The solution is priced well compared to other solutions."
"It is approximately $400 to purchase a virtual service outright."
"The price is based on the number of sockets. We use a four-socket price that includes two servers and the cost is $4,375."
"We were happy with the pricing that they gave us."
"On a scale from one to ten, where one is cheap and ten is expensive, I rate the solution's pricing an eight out of ten."
"The pricing is better now that they had come out with the Tier 2 which replicates a little less often. In comparison to what I would have been spending with any other type of solution, the pricing is fair."
"I feel the product's pricing is a good value. Licensing is pretty straightforward."
"I rate the price of CloudEndure Disaster Recovery a six out of ten."
"CloudEndure Disaster Recovery is charging clients $20 to do the DR backups. It is an expensive solution."
"They license us on a per machine basis. We have a set number of machines, which we have licensed."
"Where the price adds up, there are CloudEndure licenses, then there is the AWS environment, and finally, there is the AWS storage, so cumulatively, it adds up."
