Cost savings and efficient decompression but needs better cloud integration
Our primary use case for Arcserve UDP is its decompression feature, which helped us save money by reducing storage needs. Despite moving to cloud applications, we have been using Arcserve UDP for backup and disaster recovery Arcserve UDP has helped our organization save considerable amounts of…

Simplified interface with good performance but needs monitoring
I need to use PowerStore and Veritas Backup Exec. It is a direct backup to types, and it is supported by my backup. It offers good performance and stability, and it works properly. I am happy with this program. It is still working on aligning with security requirements and data encryption for Amazon or ATAC. It has a lot of functions and security measures, which ensure our backups are secure.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable feature of Arcserve UDP is live replication."
"Global deduplication is the best feature of this solution."
"The most valuable feature of StorageCraft ShadowProtect is the speed and the compression of the backups. The compressed backed-up files do not take up as much storage. Additionally, the incremental backups can be done in one minute and be backed up on a disc very fast."
"I like the tool's speed."
"One of the things that I do like about it is that it has a very good deduplication feature."
"There are many backup options available in this solution. For example, you are able to do backups of servers, email, OST files, and users. This is a complete backup solution which is very good."
"The most valuable feature of Arcserve UDP is its decompression capability."
"Arcserve has a feature called virtual standby (VSB), which has been very helpful because I already have a hot standby copy of my critical infrastructure. If something breaks, I can spin up that virtual standby copy in less than five minutes and ensure that my data is available to everyone and that business continuity is maintained."
"One nice feature with Backup Exec is mainly that disaster can happen to any server and the disk image can be destroyed very easily. It's also easy to fully email the backup image and restore the server."
"The most valuable feature is the ability to back up IBM Power virtual servers."
"The usability and interface of the solution are good."
"This solution is not complex and you do not have to be too technical to use it."
"Veritas Backup Exec is fully compatible with different tape libraries."
"I have found the overall features of the solution very good and there is the option to backup to the cloud."
"The solution is stable."
"Setting up Backup Exec is straightforward. It took less than two weeks to get it up and running. You need maybe two people at most if you have a Veritas-certified engineer."

Cons

"Based on my experience, whenever we need support, there are difficulties with communication when trying to resolve the issue."
"The tool doesn't provide cloud integration in India."
"We are looking at scaling up to the cloud and using immutable copies on the cloud. Arcserve UDP 8.0 does have the immutable feature supporting AWS, but I'm looking for multi-cloud support. So, I'm waiting for Arcserve to release that in the next release."
"I think that the price could still be a bit cheaper and I do not like that they have been purchased by Arcserve."
"They could work on their marketing approach. I don't see many people leveraging it."
"The speed of restores should be improved. We have found the speed of large restores rather slow."
"I had an issue with Arcserve UDP during the failover and the secondary machine didn't get back online, even though it ran automatically. I faced the issue during a crisis situation. However, I haven't faced such a problem again."
"Backups are very slow and time consuming."
"We need to have duplication and better compression."
"If you keep it for too long and the catalog gets really big, the application tends to move slowly."
"The pricing could be improved."
"Currently, the solution does not have the capability to restore a single mailbox, so you lose a lot of time having to restore for example ten mailboxes just to recover one."
"Expanding is difficult because if I want to add, for example, a terabyte of data, then I have to buy a disk shelf and it will cost me a lot."
"I probably need to monitor the infrastructure and check the logs to be notified about anomalies."
"Its scalability should be improved."
"The solution could improve by having better documentation."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The pricing is moderate."
"I feel that the product is fairly priced."
"We only have the maintenance of three standard UDP licenses. Each license is 50 Euro. There are some additional costs for the storage and software but it has nothing to do with the UDP."
"It is approximately $400 to purchase a virtual service outright."
"I do not work with the pricing or licensing issues of the solution for our organization."
"The solution is priced well compared to other solutions."
"The retail fee is $1300 for a year for one server. Other than that, there is just the cost of your hardware."
"Pricing is most likely comparable."
"It is a mid-range solution on the pricing scale."
"I rate the price of Veritas Backup Exec a four out of five."
"This product is priced for smaller customers."
"The price of Veritas Backup Exec could be reduced and we pay annually for the license. However, compared to other solutions, such as Veeam, it is less expensive."
"It is not an expensive product."
"The product is affordable."
"I would like to see a better licensing model. They changed it and it's just horrendous."
"I think, at least for the price I've seen, it could be lower compared to other products."
