Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"There are many backup options available in this solution. For example, you are able to do backups of servers, email, OST files, and users. This is a complete backup solution which is very good.""One of the things that I do like about it is that it has a very good deduplication feature.""The most valuable feature of Arcserve UDP is live replication.""Arcserve has a feature called virtual standby (VSB), which has been very helpful because I already have a hot standby copy of my critical infrastructure. If something breaks, I can spin up that virtual standby copy in less than five minutes and ensure that my data is available to everyone and that business continuity is maintained.""The most valuable feature is the duplication.""The standard backup and restore feature is most used.""I would recommend it if there is a general case.""We are satisfied with Arcserve UDP. The most important feature that we use and why we choose this product is the RHA feature."

"Setting up Backup Exec is straightforward. It took less than two weeks to get it up and running. You need maybe two people at most if you have a Veritas-certified engineer.""The ease-of-use in general is great.""The solution is stable.""The one thing for the last 12 months which has been very good for Veritas was the instance-based license. This means that you're able to license per instance, not only per physical server.""Veritas is good for small environments.""We are happy with Veritas Backup Exec's stability.""The most valuable feature of Veritas Backup Exec is the ease of use.""I like that Backup Exec integrates with Microsoft Exchange. We can retrieve backups from the email boxes."

Cons
"The solution can use a lot of bandwidth when the scheduling is not done, it should auto-schedule itself. For example, if there are 50 users connected in the network at 12 o'clock and the backup is not scheduled. At this time the network offices are going to have performance issues when it is doing a backup. Having a feature to auto-schedule a time when the network is not being used often would be beneficial.""Based on my experience, whenever we need support, there are difficulties with communication when trying to resolve the issue.""I had an issue with Arcserve UDP during the failover and the secondary machine didn't get back online, even though it ran automatically. I faced the issue during a crisis situation. However, I haven't faced such a problem again.""Its interface can be improved. I find it unintuitive.""We could not go into granular details of retrieving backup information.""The speed of restores should be improved. We have found the speed of large restores rather slow.""We are looking at scaling up to the cloud and using immutable copies on the cloud. Arcserve UDP 8.0 does have the immutable feature supporting AWS, but I'm looking for multi-cloud support. So, I'm waiting for Arcserve to release that in the next release.""Arcserve UDP is in the middle range of complexity. The interface can be developed a little bit more to be user-friendly."

More Arcserve UDP Cons →

"I would like to be able to create a restore task that can be scheduled so that the same restore action will be performed automatically.""The one thing which could be improved, which we have informed Veritas about, is the ability to plug in to the cloud. Meaning, instead of using local storage if we're backing up a small user or end user, we want to be able to make it so they can direct the backups directly to the cloud. It can't be done at the moment. We can only back up to the storage then replicate to the cloud, but we cannot use the cloud as a source of storage.""It could be improved in the area of reporting and ease-of-use.""There needs to be an integration process of the endpoint devices so that we don't have to redo everything for different products.""The solution could improve by having better documentation.""The EDR should be looked at, as the operating system is too weak.""The pricing could be improved.""The integration with SaaS applications like Office 365 needs to be improved."

    Reviews from Real Users

Below are some reviews and helpful feedback written by Veritas Backup Exec users.

An IT Network Analyst at a manufacturing company says, “The backup potential of the solution is very good. It's protected us in the past very well and allowed us to get up and running after an attack with minimal loss. As far as if we need to restore a file, the solution absolutely has improved the way our organization functions. It saves us a lot of time. We're backing up all of our servers with it.”

PeerSpot user Masoud G., Senior Network Administrator at MapnaBE, mentions, “I prefer to use a tape library and Veritas Backup Exec is fully compatible with different tape libraries. So I prefer this software. It also has easy user and file recovery.”

Kayode O., Chief Technology Officer at a tech company, explains, “This solution creates a differential backup to reduce storage requirements. This solution is not complex and you do not have to be too technical to use it. Veritas offers granular restore, which is an option that many other solutions do not have. It allows you to restore, for example, a single SharePoint document, rather than an entire site.”

Rowland G., Product Brand Manager at Epsidon Technology Distribution, states, “The one thing for the last 12 months which has been very good for Veritas was the instance-based license. This means that you're able to license per instance, not only per physical server. And also, the incremental backup which they introduced for virtual servers, where it makes it much quicker to restore, it just automatically is able to mount it back to the original backup. This makes it much quicker when you're doing the restore.”
