Offers multi-tenancy feature and interface is very refined, works fine, and is very intuitive but rocky implementation process
Many features that Arcserve proposes in its documentation and marketing material actually don't work properly in practice. Veeam is the most comparable solution, considering features and capacities. They are very similar, but Veeam works fine most of the time. With Arcserve, we have a lot of problems in implementing and getting compatibility, especially with legacy systems. We also have mysterious problems that no one can solve. The performance is not as planned or as intended. Our experience has been shaky. It's not very reliable as a tool, especially in critical cases like disaster recovery. So we've been working on migrating all our projects to Veeam and other similar solutions that offer comparable features. Reliability is not Arcserve's greatest strength – implementation is rocky, and sizings never work as planned. Plus, their cloud service is very slow and relatively expensive compared to Veeam.

Provides versatile storage options, but its user interface could be easy to understand for customers
The product allows for versatile storage options, enabling users to store data on disk storage, NAS storage, or tape libraries. Notably, it integrates well with tape libraries, including Tableaux libraries, a feature significantly improved in recent versions. Compression and deduplication are the critical features of Veritas Backup Exec that we find most essential for our operations. However, many users prefer to access these features through hardware appliances rather than software solutions. This preference stems from the high resource utilization of software-based backups, which often require significant amounts of RAM and processing power. Consequently, deploying software-based backups may necessitate provisioning a large bare-metal machine. In contrast, hardware appliances don't need extensive appliances. Veeam provides better ease of management than Veritas. However, Veritas has a good graphical user interface that is easy to learn. However, those with customer experience prefer Veeam's user interface (UI) for database management. However, while it may initially seem challenging, the UI of Veritas is straightforward and user-friendly, especially for technical users. I rate the product a seven out of ten.

"It is a scalable product."
"The ease-of-use in general is great."
"The disk-to-disk paid backup feature is quite good, and file locking is a very important feature."
"This solution works well and has good integration with technologies such as VMware and Hyper-V."

Cons

"The technical support of the product is an area of concern where improvements are required."
"Arcserve UDP is in the middle range of complexity. The interface can be developed a little bit more to be user-friendly."
"The time to backup servers that sit in DMZ must be improved."
"A lot of their new technologies are not very good."
"StorageCraft ShadowProtect can improve by making one console that can control backups of all desktops and servers in one place. Additionally, the recovery process of the backups is very slow and could improve. It's very slow when we went to recover a complete disc but to recover one file is very fast."
"We have to use a Microsoft hypervisor for installation which is expensive."
"Licensing can be quite difficult."
"The tool doesn't provide cloud integration in India."
"Veritas Backup Exec should improve by having a user portal that customers can use."
"It's not too stable for client-server architecture. Center Management is not so interactive, and then there are some issues regarding the complex licensing which needs improvement."

"Veritas Backup Exec's dashboard feature could be enhanced."
"Doesn't include disaster recovery."
"Its scalability should be improved."
"The price of this solution is very high."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solution is not very expensive, but it is not cheap."
"The price of this product is high and it should be lower."
"There is an annual license required for this solution and it is priced well."
"The solution is priced well compared to other solutions."
"We only have the maintenance of three standard UDP licenses. Each license is 50 Euro. There are some additional costs for the storage and software but it has nothing to do with the UDP."
"The price is based on the number of sockets. We use a four-socket price that includes two servers and the cost is $4,375."
"It is a bit pricey, considering the reliability problems. If the tool worked flawlessly, the price would be fair, even cheap."
"The licensing cost is for one year. There are not any hidden costs involved in the pricing model of the solution."
"Regarding expense, Backup Exec is generally suitable for small and medium businesses. However, we can customize them based on the workload."
"The product is inexpensive compared to enterprise software."
"If your company can afford it, go for it."
"Veritas licensing is somewhat expensive. They have to decrease the price."
"It is affordable, but I hope that the price will come down a lot because of other competitors. It is a good price for the customer, but sometimes, the competition provides a much lower price. There are two ways to license it. You can license it per instance or per terabytes of data that we are mocking up. It is enough because it is not so complex. It is good when you're working with customers."
"The price of this solution is a bit high."
"The product's price is reasonable."
"Pricing is similar, but they don´t offer the same options/technology."
