Cost savings and efficient decompression but needs better cloud integration
Our primary use case for Arcserve UDP is its decompression feature, which helped us save money by reducing storage needs. Despite moving to cloud applications, we have been using Arcserve UDP for backup and disaster recovery Arcserve UDP has helped our organization save considerable amounts of…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable feature of Arcserve UDP is its decompression capability."
"The ability to switch between different hardware platforms and utilization tools are some of this solution's most valuable features."
"The interface is very refined, works fine, and is very intuitive most of the time. Scalability is nice. The multi-tenancy feature is very welcome. The integration with Linux works fine too."
"The recovery part of the product is very good."
"Arcserve has a feature called virtual standby (VSB), which has been very helpful because I already have a hot standby copy of my critical infrastructure. If something breaks, I can spin up that virtual standby copy in less than five minutes and ensure that my data is available to everyone and that business continuity is maintained."
"The most valuable feature of Arcserve UDP is the initiative UI and the logs are clear and detailed that are generated when there has been an issue or failure on the user's system. We only have to log onto the client's system to retrieve the information. It is possible to precisely identify the problem's location. The system categorizes and logs every step in a structured manner, selectively displaying only the essential logs. However, to view a comprehensive log, one must access the line machine log and examine the actual client for detailed logging."
"The standard backup and restore feature is most used."
"The most valuable feature is the duplication."
"It is a rock-solid backup solution. That's all, and that's what we were asking for."
"Veeam communicates with the vCenter in VMware, which means it's very smooth and doesn't interrupt production on VMware and you can backup or restore anytime, anywhere."
"Veeam Is very useful for most environments and can scale up in most environments - such as Amazon or Azure."
"Replication and restore object in Exchange boxes with possibility to select part of Microsoft directory."
"The whole replication aspect of the solution is excellent because it compresses the data so well."
"I consider the solution's technical support to be excellent, perfect."
"The most valuable feature is the continuous backup."
"The solution works well in two different environments, whether it is on-premises, cloud, or a combination."

Cons

"The time to backup servers that sit in DMZ must be improved."
"The product is not user-friendly."
"StorageCraft ShadowProtect can improve by making one console that can control backups of all desktops and servers in one place. Additionally, the recovery process of the backups is very slow and could improve. It's very slow when we went to recover a complete disc but to recover one file is very fast."
"We could not go into granular details of retrieving backup information."
"I think that the price could still be a bit cheaper and I do not like that they have been purchased by Arcserve."
"I don't know whether the tool has VMware integrations. It would be good to cover this area if it doesn't have those."
"The solution can use a lot of bandwidth when the scheduling is not done, it should auto-schedule itself. For example, if there are 50 users connected in the network at 12 o'clock and the backup is not scheduled. At this time the network offices are going to have performance issues when it is doing a backup. Having a feature to auto-schedule a time when the network is not being used often would be beneficial."
"We are looking at scaling up to the cloud and using immutable copies on the cloud. Arcserve UDP 8.0 does have the immutable feature supporting AWS, but I'm looking for multi-cloud support. So, I'm waiting for Arcserve to release that in the next release."
"The deduplication feature could be improved by changing to global deduplication."
"It would be ideal if they could capture everything and then timestamp and back up everything up to that timestamp."
"There are certain shortcomings associated with the virtualization infrastructure."
"Restoration takes about two to four hours with Veeam. Zerto can restore in about 10 seconds. That's the restoration speed I'm looking for now that we're dealing with ransomware."
"The Cloud version is not ready, they need maturity and ease of deployment in terms of management."
"Veeam doesn't have the reporting part quite right. Its data visualization isn't as slick as other solutions like Veritas. For example, in Veritas, you can see a calendar that shows you which days are backed up. Veeam lacks features like that."
"I prefer a software backup solution that allows me to easily define my origin data, including data files, folders, and virtual machines."
"The price could be lower."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solution is expensive."
"The price is based on the number of sockets. We use a four-socket price that includes two servers and the cost is $4,375."
"The retail fee is $1300 for a year for one server. Other than that, there is just the cost of your hardware."
"The solution is priced well compared to other solutions."
"I feel that the product is fairly priced."
"Its price seems reasonable. Its price is average as compared to the other products I've looked at. We have a three-year license right now. There are no other costs beyond the standard licensing fee."
"The solution is very expensive."
"The price of StorageCraft ShadowProtect is competitive in the market."
"The changes in pricing have been an interesting aspect. It seems to have become pricier, resulting in a reduction in affordability. There are extra expenses involved, including hardware requirements and the procurement of operating system licenses, which must also be taken into account. I would rate the price seven out of ten."
"I would suggest to others that they buy the full license when purchasing this solution."
"Since pricing is per socket, it is not expensive to add capacity as you go along."
"On a one to ten scale, where one is very cheap and ten is very expensive, I rate the price as a five out of ten."
"The price of the solution is high."
"It is more expensive than other solutions."
"The pricing is reasonable."
"I rate the pricing a five, depending on the application and environment."
