I have extensive experience with Microsoft Office SharePoint Server that dates back to when it was included on the Windows XP Professional CD, though many people were unaware of its presence. I was a Microsoft Office SharePoint Server instructor at Canon, and Microsoft commissioned my company and me to speak at large events. I pride myself on implementing solutions using out-of-the-box features. It is unfortunate that many organizations still use it merely as a web-based file share, which underutilizes its capabilities.

Document management and version control are key features. Understanding that everything in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server is a list, including document libraries, means everything entered into that list becomes a table. This enables the creation of relational lists.

When I see folders in a document library in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server, I find it concerning because it indicates basic web-based file share usage. Organizations often replace Box or Google Drive but continue the same limited usage pattern. This approach misses opportunities for creating libraries with specific functionalities, including automation, meta tags, and document generation.

I frequently demonstrate these capabilities to others. While people express interest in learning, they often lack the time to master these features. I have implemented connected lists where metadata is utilized effectively. For example, in time and expense tracking, people typically use Excel spreadsheets for time, expense, and status reports in Word documents. These documents share common elements such as week end dates, names, and amounts in hours or dollars.

Microsoft should restore some functionalities from older versions of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2003 and 2010. Specifically, bringing back something similar to SharePoint Designer would be beneficial. SharePoint Designer was both advantageous and challenging - developers found it limiting and preferred Visual Studio, while non-developers struggled to use it effectively.

A new tool for configuring webpage design and development for content pages would be valuable. The current system is too basic. While integration of filtered lists and libraries is possible, it requires knowledge of Python or jQuery. A WYSIWYG editor would be preferable to requiring programming knowledge or Visual Studio.

We are using Microsoft Office SharePoint Server's custom application development as a custom site for the needs of the company. For example, particular departments wanted to have their own app on an environment where they could collaborate easily. This was more the use case for us.

The best features of this solution are found in its simplicity for the application team and support staff who find it simple enough to use, although for my needs, I'm more using it as storage. In general, they need to go to Microsoft for more complex topics from time to time. There was one thing particularly linked to a migration need. There were higher volumes and some issues when it came to moving big data, but I'm not entirely sure about the volumes.

The technical staff are the ones leading there. I have one pretty senior staff member who was responsible for this project. It took them more time than expected because they were trying to do a more rapid migration, but in the end, it was successful. Unfortunately, I cannot give too many details because I was not entirely responsible for this one. I was more overseeing and reporting to management.

This occurred at the beginning of the year. We completed it in the first three months of the year, during the first quarter, if I'm not mistaken. Some time has passed and it's not very fresh in my mind, but I think this is what I can share initially.

It is very hard for me to tell you what can be better in this solution. I could ask the technical staff who can actually give better information than me because I'm not entirely sure what their struggle was technically. I know in the end it worked. It wasn't a high price and high maintenance for us. Maybe the issue was more on our side technically to develop. I'm not sure what exactly the challenge was, so I don't want to provide misleading information.

From a design standpoint, I think it is sometimes hard to represent when there's a huge volume of data and specific requirements that are outside of the solution itself. It's hard to replicate and takes a lot of time. From team to team and from application to application, the requirements were varying. So maybe it's not out-of-box suitable for all of our needs. The business is specific; you can't put everything in one bucket.

When it comes to training the people working with it and onboarding new people to work with it, it's easy and the learning path is easy, which is good. You can quickly get people up to speed with it. This is the plus.

We implemented the solution at the beginning of the year, during the first three months, specifically in the first quarter.

In my opinion, we don't have any issues, excluding this migration. As I mentioned, that might also be because of the complexity we built behind it with the back-office suites we have. It's pretty specific stuff related to freight, vessel management, and operations. It's very specific what we do, and some of the solutions we try to put there are in-house made. I wouldn't say it's because of the tool itself; it's more about the complexity of what we have behind it.

Microsoft Office SharePoint Server is a scalable solution because our applications are not staying in one place. Year on year, we are increasing users, so definitely it can scale with what we need. We are increasing, not dramatically, but we have definitely grown year on year. So far, we find it scalable enough for our needs. We handle 200-300 users per quarter, and now we have 3,000 users around the globe, demonstrating its scalability.

I would rate my experience with Microsoft technical support as sometimes frustrating because of the time it takes for the Microsoft team to react to their particular case. Sometimes it's fast and deserves a ten, while sometimes it's definitely slow and should be below five. To be objective, I would rate it a six or seven because it's not consistently low or high. It's somewhere between medium and good.

I haven't seen the full pricing, so my opinion about its licensing may be limited. This decision is taken at another level above me. I haven't seen the pricing and the full business case for us. I know the price is better for us because we are a partner. I'm not sure exactly how much better or how satisfied our colleagues are with it. We are continuing to use it, so we continue to invest in it. We are very cost-sensitive nowadays, so I think the price must be good. On a scale of one to ten, I would give Microsoft Office SharePoint Server an eight.

We are using Ekahau for network access control products and network modeling.

We're using MetaGeek; this is not the only product we're currently using.

We work with Wi-Fi Explorer as well as these two and something else.

I only make some surveys for wireless installation related to switches, routers, and wireless technologies.

Sharing information is the best feature or advantage of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server based on my experience.

Regarding the networking feature, it's not really a network product.

It's only for projects with customers, projects with internal company, and for providing collaborative space.

Searching information internally in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server could be better because when we get a lot of information, it is difficult to find.

There are other things that could be better, though I don't know specifically what besides search.

Search is the main problem, but it could be better if we used software used by other people. Sometimes we have customers who don't use it, and that creates problems.

I estimate we have been using Microsoft Office SharePoint Server for about five years.

The system is stable, but sometimes updates are necessary, which is easy to handle.

I'm not sure if updates are problematic; we experience short periods of unavailability during updates.

The regular use cases with Microsoft Office SharePoint Server are to share files and to plug them into websites in collaboration features from Office 365. The advanced search functionality is acceptable for me; I have never had any problem with that.

The features for low-code and no-code capabilities in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server are among the best, which are very user-friendly and not seen in any other cloud services, such as S3 from AWS and blob storage from Azure.

There are areas that could be improved with Microsoft Office SharePoint Server. My company has more than 5,000 collaborators. The question of how Microsoft Office SharePoint Server can be a better solution is challenging for me.

Better document sharing features would be an improvement.

I deal with Microsoft's collaboration tools. All the collaboration tools from Microsoft, including Microsoft Teams, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint, are what I use nowadays.

The document management features of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server are not very good compared to OneDrive. For sharing documents, we are using OneDrive regularly, while Microsoft Office SharePoint Server is used to plug in Power BI and other applications from Office 365.

Regarding Microsoft Office SharePoint Server versus OneDrive, I have a critique of Microsoft. Many applications for Office 365 have overlap, which causes confusion with end users regarding what tools they need for their business needs. The feature that I value the most about Microsoft Office SharePoint Server is the ability to have multiple persons in a file at the same time, which was not possible when we started using computers. Editing or viewing is possible, but editing with multiple users simultaneously is a standout feature. The versions for files and the ability to use files on all mobile devices are also beneficial, but simultaneous editing is something that always makes you say 'Wow,' especially when you see the initials and letters of the other person that is online and where they are editing.

We used Microsoft Office SharePoint Server fairly early on at Clemson for our project management and documentation. We used it for tracking documents and managing project-related materials.

Some of the best features with Microsoft Office SharePoint Server are that it is easy to use, security is easy, and it's all integrated into the university's security systems. It's easy to upload, and it keeps a good track of all the different versions. When looking at file management, being able to see the previous versions and see who updated it when is essential.

We have utilized the real-time document editing feature. It's quite innovative when working on one paragraph and seeing the paragraph below being changed in real-time by someone that may not be actually in the office.

The workflow automation helps since you don't have to be in the same location. It's better to be connected through Microsoft Office SharePoint Server so everyone can work on the same document as opposed to being in a conference room looking at the same document. It is beneficial to be able to collaborate real-time on one document.

We haven't used Microsoft Office SharePoint Server's search functionality extensively, but when we have, it has found what we needed. It accomplishes what we require.

Accountability is one benefit of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server. We can all see the document live and see it being changed. We can review it as soon as they're done and make the changes, make the edits. If I send it to an email and then it gets forwarded to someone else, at the end of the day, there are multiple versions on different servers. With Microsoft Office SharePoint Server, it's in one place and visible to everyone.

We're about to explore ways to integrate Microsoft Office SharePoint Server into Power BI. My suggestion would be to improve or provide better ability to integrate Microsoft Office SharePoint Server into Power BI if the current integration capabilities are insufficient.

I have 15 years of experience with Microsoft Office SharePoint Server.

We've been very fortunate with stability overall. We're in the cloud using the 365 stuff hosted by Big Green IT and it's been excellent.

My expectation when I start using a Microsoft product is that it would be easy to incorporate diagrams and such from other Microsoft Office products.

Incorporating a diagram I've embedded in a slide into a wiki page to illustrate application architecture is actually quite tricky. I can do simple things like screen paste, but if I want to embed a diagram and link it to the source document to avoid multiple copies and modifications, that is tricky, even for pretty standard diagram formats. I wouldn't say that's being used actively.

I have been using Microsoft Office SharePoint Server for more than five years.

Microsoft Office SharePoint Server isn't normally something that causes glitches. It's quite stable.

The main issues around capacity have been migration projects to migrate content from on-prem legacy platforms into an enterprise cloud-based platform.

From my partner perspective, the best advantages of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server are that it's easy to use, and we can easily communicate, share documents, and assign permissions to specific people. We can create multiple types of permissions according to user requirements and client requirements, and we can allow or block usage of documents and folders. We can publish our achievements on SharePoint sites and multiple projects that we have created and share with the client user and our team management, as well as with the overall management.

The search capabilities are easy to use.

Regarding integration with other tools, it is easy to integrate when we have collaboration on Office 365 with tools such as Teams and OneDrive. These integrate seamlessly with the SharePoint tools.

Regarding disadvantages of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server, I have not observed any areas that need improvement. It's easy to use, though one suggestion would be to separate the Team sites from SharePoint sites. When we create a Team channel or any kind of team on a Team portal, they also create a SharePoint site. We need to separate this functionality. We should be able to create only Team sites that work for Teams, and when we create SharePoint sites, they should work for SharePoint only, without the combination of both.

I have been using Microsoft Office SharePoint Server for the last three years.

I am currently working with Microsoft Office 365 Exchange Online, Microsoft Defender, and Azure Sentinel technologies.

My exposure to Zoom has primarily been through marketing pitches rather than a detailed side-by-side comparison with Microsoft Office SharePoint Server.
