The initial auto-discovery added too many unnecessary sensors, so auto-discovery should only take the necessary sensors into consideration.

The initial setup of REST sensors needed a trial and error method, but I don't think much improvement is needed for PRTG Network Monitor. Everything is above our standard and doing well in our industry.

Both the vendor and in-house team combined together to set it up. We had almost 20 to 25 employees working on it initially. After setup was complete and monitoring was in place, we only needed five to six employees. The alerting mechanisms have helped us save time and resources, with timely interventions being done by the person on shift for that particular day.

We have seen a return on investment. The implementation reduced our employee resources from 20-25 to 5-6 employees. Money and time are saved because of the alerting mechanisms. For any critical failures, we get alert notifications, and timely intervention is done by the person on shift. In all circumstances, it is a win-win situation for us.

The pricing was higher at the beginning, but the recurring licensing cost is affordable and reasonable. Overall, the pricing, setup cost, and licensing is fair for our industry. They have quoted us a very good price.

PRTG Network Monitor allows monitoring anything from small businesses to large enterprises. For larger installations, performance can be optimized by using core servers. This is the best product if you are monitoring up to 200 to 300 sensors. For larger companies, there are paid services available where you can monitor a large number of devices.

I have rated PRTG Network Monitor a ten out of ten based on my experiences.

My main use case for PRTG Network Monitor is that I really appreciate the alerting system, allowing me to see when and how long each issue has lasted. The auto-pause for sensors during maintenance windows is awesome, as there are no false alerts till now. Additionally, the built-in SNMP tester tool has saved me multiple times during setups, making PRTG Network Monitor a one-stop monitoring solution for my industry.

Its ability to clone the sensors with all the settings intact is a huge time-saver for me. Apart from that, everything looks positive from my end.

The alerting features and dashboard of PRTG Network Monitor are very helpful, especially in our industry. However, the dashboard can look cluttered on smaller screens, which is one negative aspect.

PRTG Network Monitor has impacted us positively; we have stopped getting flooded with alerts during planned maintenance or unplanned outages. Compared to others, this gives specific alerts very quickly and helps department heads understand their own network usage better, thus reducing incident response time so that each alert has clear ownership.

There could be improvements to PRTG Network Monitor by adding a dark mode instead of white screens all day during the daytime or during the night. Additionally, dashboards can look cluttered on smaller screens, and the UI can feel crowded when there are hundreds of sensors in one group.

Sometimes, SNMP devices need custom OIDs that aren't auto-discovered, which requires additional work. Moreover, sensor names should be renamed manually when cloning, so it would be better if everything were done automatically.

When I use PRTG Network Monitor, it shows which servers go down or crash, displaying real-time reports and related information. We have configured PRTG Network Monitor to trigger an alert if any sensor or server goes down for more than five minutes. PRTG Network Monitor shows cause and effect clearly. For example, when our internet link failed, it displayed which dependent services were impacted. The feature in PRTG Network Monitor improved communication within my team since everyone can see the same dashboard. We can see the real-time dashboard and take immediate action based on that. There are some vendor-specific sensors in PRTG Network Monitor, particularly for older hardware, that don't always provide consistent results. That could be improved. The dark mode theme in PRTG Network Monitor could be more polished, especially since it is frequently used in the NOC. When editing multiple sensors simultaneously, the UI feels slower. This aspect could be improved.

The alerting sensor has helped significantly; for instance, during maintenance windows if our server is down, it helps to capture and count false alerts and only sends crucial and important alerts. This makes it very easy to differentiate between false alerts and actual alerts, which helps save time for both management and those involved with patching activities.

The dashboards are very clean and unique. It is very scalable, and the pricing is also very good, which makes this software outstanding compared to others.

PRTG Network Monitor has positively impacted my organization. Before PRTG Network Monitor, it was very difficult to monitor a wide variety of sensors. Since implementing PRTG Network Monitor, which supports numerous sensor types and protocols, it has become much easier for us to monitor servers, virtual systems, and cloud services to some extent.

PRTG Network Monitor provides a free version which supports up to a certain number of sensors, but that is useful only for small deployments or trial use. If PRTG Network Monitor could reconsider the pricing structure to make it more accessible to everyone, it would become a more stable product in the market for the future.

We use PRTG Network Monitor to monitor our sensors. We created a dashboard for our particular sensors which is critical, and those sensors show in the same dashboard. Whenever they do fail, it shows in red.

PRTG Network Monitor offers a single-pane dashboard where we can monitor all the servers on one single screen. We can monitor all the servers with a single eye, which helps our team to detect a failed server quickly. Earlier we used to monitor those servers manually one after each, but now we can monitor those servers in a single dashboard easily. This saves our team time checking each server manually, which in turn also reduces downtime.

The reporting features look very technical and that can be improved. If they can change the report so everyone can understand it, that would be helpful.

I have been exploring SolarWinds and Zabbix as alternatives due to the issues faced with the rising costs and poor support of PRTG Network Monitor.

After-sales services are crucial in the corporate sector. Even with high pricing, if a company does not provide full support, it will be unsuccessful. Support is essential.

I have a consulting role and my customer is trying to choose between PRTG Network Monitor and other solutions. I already have PRTG as an option, so they can have a third option.

PRTG Network Monitor is easy to set up. Within a few minutes, it is operational. It is an all-in-one monitoring solution without extra costs. For example, we set it up for an insurance company with branches across Africa. We are able to monitor from Lagos without installing anything in the branches, using the agentless feature. We just put in the IP address and the parameter, and we monitor from those ends. 

Additionally, all the sensors are very useful. Most people are interested in the bandwidth monitoring sensor to see what bandwidth the users are consuming. The pricing is affordable compared to SolarWinds.

PRTG Network Monitor needs to enhance network performance monitoring. Moving towards observability, similar to what Datadog offers, could be beneficial. Specifically, they need to improve application performance monitoring, error tracing mechanisms, and log management. Log management is not detailed enough unless exported to Syslog or other tools.

I have been familiar with this product for five to eight years.

PRTG Network Monitor scales easily. If scaling up is needed, you just move to the next band, adding about 50% of additional cost.

The technical support is good. The setup process is well-documented, making it easy to deploy. However, unlike SolarWinds, which requires specialized training due to its complexity, PRTG's process is more straightforward.

PRTG comes in different bands: there are options with 500, 1500, 2500, and so on. Pricing is by the number of devices, not by sensor.

I would recommend PRTG Network Monitor, especially if the customer is cost-conscious. However, if the network to be monitored is extensive, either PRTG or SolarWinds could be recommended. 

Overall, I rate PRTG as nine or 9.5 out of ten.
