A cloud solution for warehousing with a troubleshooting feature
The initial setup is straightforward. It's based on user requirements. We also conduct heat mapping using a couple of tools. The only requirement is to understand the technical or configuration aspects from the user's end and then configure it. Mist takes no more than 15 to 20 minutes for a particular deployment. You need to understand the end user's environment and have a concrete plan on whether it's a greenfield installation or an existing one, considering the density and height. Based on that, we need to develop a passive heat map. Then, you need to discuss with the user to understand exactly what needs to be configured and what they require in their environment. Based on that, you can proceed with the installation. Additionally, you can perform post-installation heat mapping to ensure it matches the earlier heat map. I rate the initial setup an eight out of ten, where one is difficult, and ten is easy.

It allowed us to report downtime on sites in a very easy and comprehensive way.
The features which I believe to be the most valuable for PRTG are its easy setup in general, including its alarm setup; along with its out-of-the-box monitoring checks. The fact that it's simple to use network-based monitoring, and at the same time is reliable and robust This product in…

Very user friendly, but needs more documentation to help understand how to use the product
There are not too much documentation or manuals. We found the tutorials very easy to understand but do not go deep enough in the use of Zabbix. We need more manuals, proper use, documentation, etc. We would like to see some applications or plugins as bricks that we can use to construct applications to use with Zabbix. For example, we are starting using Zabbix with Grafana for presentations and apparently they match very easily but you need to put in a lot of work to get the final results. If you have some applications that you can add one to one, you can construct the project more quickly.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The single dashboard is a valuable feature."
"We can manage the entire system across the network and troubleshoot the pain points."
"Good compilation of the system's information."
"From a network point of view, we can see the state of the network, as well as bandwidth usage and downtime."
"The installation is not that complex."
"It is a user-friendly solution."
"It is easy to use and intuitive, which is really important. It does what it says on the box by giving you a visual of the state of what is going on at any one time."
"Stability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten."
"It is a very stable solution. There are no bugs, glitches and we have not experienced any crashing."
"There is a simplicity to setting up the extra sensors. It's really easy for us to build infrastructure and start monitoring very quickly."
"The most valuable features of Zabbix are flexibility and a single interface for different types of monitoring."
"The solution is open-source, easy to manage, and user-friendly making it easy for anyone to use."
"The features I found most valuable are the user interface and a wide range of network devices that are easy to configure."
"The solution's design has recently changed and it is visually pleasing with more color, for example, there is blue, black, and white."
"It has an intuitive UI with beautiful graphs and customizable maps."
"It is a great product. The SNMP protocol tracking feature is good. I really like how it tracks SNMP. The alerts are also great."
"The overall functionality of Zabbix is very good. The monitoring of bank applications that Zabbix provides is great. The information is displayed on a dashboard that is easily viewed."
"Zabbix has a roadmap and they are continuously and frequently adding new features."

Cons

"The Wi-Fi side needs improvement."
"The technical support needs improvement."
"Sometimes, it is difficult to drill down further to get information, e.g., if we saw spike in traffic, then we would want to drill down and find out what is causing that spike in traffic."
"I would like to have a VM version that can be installed on a cloud such as Azure. We're using Azure, and we're eliminating on-premise servers. It would be helpful to have a PRTG version that can be installed on the Azure cloud."
"They just released a newer version of the desktop app, a beta version, that I have been trialing out. I prefer the older version, only because of how the layout is designed"
"The solution could be better and faster when it comes to performance."
"PRTG would be improved if it required less memory to run."
"Its price can be better. Its price is a problem for us because it is in dollars, and there is a high conversion rate. In terms of new features, it can have BGP monitoring. It should also have a dashboard and maps editor."
"In terms of sensors and probes, it would be really cool if PRTG had a purely Azure-based solution. We had to install a probe on one of our cloud servers and then let that probe out from there. It would be really cool if it just monitored Azure without having to install something on the device."
"PRTG Network Monitor could improve by having a feature to allow uploading of preset standard network switch configurations and the ability to monitor the SLA configuration, such as uptime for the switches or internet connectivity. This would be very useful."
"An area for improvement would be the ease of doing aggregation from the value or different devices."
"In an upcoming release, there should be automated reports which we are currently doing manually. For example, if we collect a report file every day and want to send it to a moderator for review. We are expecting this feature to come out soon but it would be valuable to have now."
"I would like to remotely connect to the computer, and Zabbix doesn't have this capability."
"If you want to use all of the features then you have to pay a licensing fee."
"The reports are not great and should be improved."
"The stability could be better."
"Even though it’s such a powerful monitoring system, it would be more helpful if it had a flexible UI."
"Zabbix technical support is sold separately."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solution is expensive."
"Licenses are very expensive, so I would like to see cheaper licensing."
"We've got the unlimited package... I believe it was around the £15,000 per year mark."
"Sensors on free version can run out quick."
"Cost was a factor when selecting this solution, but it just did everything we wanted it to do."
"In my company now, we are using the free version."
"PRTG Network Monitor is not that expensive, so I like it cost-wise. There's no additional cost apart from the standard licensing fees. On a scale of one to five, with one being the cheapest and five being the most expensive, I would rate the cost of PRTG Network Monitor a two."
"We've got 1,000 nodes and I believe it's a few hundred quid a month."
"The pricing for PRTG in our case is reasonable because we have a lot of applications to monitor within PRTG. It is not that expensive."
"There is a license required for this solution and we pay annually for our license."
"This is an open-source solution that can be used free of charge."
"This solution is completely open-source, so it is quite affordable."
"The solution is free. However, many open-sourced tools start out free but eventually start charging."
"The tool's licensing is good."
"My manager is very happy because it doesn't cost anything."
"We use the open-source version of Zabbix."
"We’re using the free version, which covers all our current needs."
