We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Technical support is very good. I'm very satisfied with the assistance we've received so far.""It can support both web applications and mobile applications, and in certain cases, it can also support testing of desktop applications or software-based applications. You can write web applications, mobile applications, and software-based applications."

"Cross project customization through template really helps to maintain standards with respect to fields, workflows throughout the available projects.""The product can scale.""The test-case repository and linkage through to regression requirements will absolutely be a key component for us. We haven't got it yet, but when we've got an enterprise regression suite, that will be a key deliverable for them. We will be able to have all of the regression suite in one place, linked to the right requirements.""The most valuable user feature that we use right now is the camera.""The stability is very good.""Defect management is very good.""What's most valuable in Micro Focus ALM Quality Center is that it's useful for these activities: test designing, test planning, and test execution.""The initial setup is straightforward. It's not too hard to deploy."

More OpenText ALM / Quality Center Pros →

"This is a user friendly solution.""The API to support integration of the homemade automated testing tool.""The ability to time test runs gives the tester the ability to compare calculated times to actual times it takes for a test case to run.""Integration with Confluence and JIRA.""I use the product to create test cases and share them with my team and manager.""The product helps us create test cases and reports.""From a testing perspective, the management is awesome. I am able to do testing and then add the reporting and the evidence. It is fair in terms of the price that you're paying. You get what you're paying for.""The most valuable features of TestRail by Gurock are the user experience, it's very easy to learn. There is no learning curve needed to work on projects and manage the test cases, it is easy. Exporting and importing are simple."

Cons
"There are some features that Micro Focus LoadRunner provides, but they are not available in IBM Rational Performance Tester. They should include such features. It can also have more reports similar to what HP provides. It might also need some improvement in terms of the tools and support for other technology areas. Certain technologies are not supported by every tool. They need to support all sorts of technologies and platforms on which web applications and mobile applications are built. They need complete support for all sorts of technologies.""The solution is not easily scalable. If you want to extend the solution, you need to purchase a different kind of license. You also have to work with the IBM team to assist in scaling."

More IBM Rational Performance Tester Cons →

"I'd like to see the concept of teams put into it.""As soon as it's available on-premises we want to move to ALM Octane as it's mainly web based, has the capability to work with major tests, and integrates with Jenkins for continuous integration.""If the solution could create a lighter, more flexible tool with more adaptability to new methodologies such as agile, it would be great.""ALM uses a waterfall approach. We have some hybrid approaches in the company and need a more agile approach.""Currently, what's missing in the solution is the ability for users to see the ongoing scenarios and the status of those scenarios versus the requirements. As for the management tools, they also need to be improved so users can have a better idea of what's going on in just one look, so they can manage testing activities better.""ALM only works on Internet Explorer. It doesn't work on any other browser. In my opinion, Internet Explorer is generally a bit slower. I would like to see it work on Chrome or on other browsers.""It's not intuitive in that way, which has always been a problem, especially with business users.""ALM Quality Center could be improved with more techniques to manage Agile processes."

More OpenText ALM / Quality Center Cons →

"With TestRail, the APIs are there, but they may not be able to easily integrate with the Jenkins.""This solution has room for improvement. For example, some particular projects need to adjust access or add additional members and this isn't always possible. Role-based access would improve this.""It would be useful if it had its own issue management system. At the moment, it's purely a test management tool and you have to link to a defect management tool, like JIRA. It would be useful if there was an option to use its own defect management tool so that it's integrated and not two separate tools.""Their customer support could be improved. Sometimes we struggle with that. It could be faster. Whenever we raise any query, they get back to you but the turnaround time is very slow.""The platform needs improvement regarding performance and creating links.""The TestRail API to integrate reporting of automated tests is complete, but requires many requests to identify the appropriate entry.""It would be nice if they would add an export to Word.""TestRail should improve its pricing."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It is much cheaper than Micro Focus LoadRunner. We need perpetual licenses. Support is included in the first sale. After that, you need to renew support every year."
  • More IBM Rational Performance Tester Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "I'd rate the pricing as 3/10 as it's very expensive."
  • "If you have more than five users, a concurrent licensing model should be considered."
  • "For pricing, I recommend to buy a bundled package. Check the HPE site for more details."
  • "The full ALM license lets you use the requirements tab, along with test automation and the Performance Center. You can also just buy the Quality Center edition (Manual testing only), or the Performance Center version (Performance Testing only)."
  • "HPE has one of the most rigid, inflexible, and super expensive license models."
  • "Sure, HP UFT is not free. But consider what you get for that cost: A stable product that is easy to use; the kitchen sink of technology stack support; decades of code (which in many cases actually is free); a version that is a stepping stone to an easier Selenium design; and a support base that is more that just the kindness of strangers."
  • "Seat and concurrent licensing models exist; the latter is recommended if a large number of different users will be utilizing the product."
  • "I feel that the licenses are expensive. "

  • "Use TestRail Cloud (online TR hosted server) and don't worry about maintenance or scalability. It saves a lot of cash and time."
  • "My advice to others is to shop around for the best deal. Some options out there are free in cyberspace."
  • "Pricing for small teams seems correct with respect to competitors."
  • "Negotiate the best deal you can."
  • "Its price is definitely not more. If they introduce automation, they can charge more."
  • "The price of the solution is based on how many users you have per year. When you grow, it is segmented, For example, 10 to 25, you have a price, and more than 50, or 100, you need to take the enterprise license. I don't think we will reach this point."
  • "I give the price a five out of ten."
  • "The product is not much expensive."
