We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The vertical scalability, as we can use it across some of our applications.""The scalability is a valuable feature, that we're able to display our documents to so many people.""The tool is a very stable solution with high availability and no information leakage. It has built-in API integration on-site. You can integrate with other components and applications like SAP, Microsoft, Oracle, etc.""The content management is all about you as you can make the same content for minimal purpose solutions applications."

"The most valuable feature for me is the possibility to share and to collaborate, the possibility to connect FileNet with many other IBM products as well. It helps avoid the possibility of creating "island applications." We have an ecosystem where everything can be interconnected.""The product is very stable.""The ability to tag data, as it seems to be indexed well. It is a good space to manage data, keep track of it, and organize it.""We have made our service routes more efficient, as far as moving work through the system and being able to react to customer situations and needs better by improving things, such as, address and beneficiary changes. I know that we have definitely made improvements in the process.""The document collaboration is very good. There is something called Pink Note where departments can collaborate within the document. It has a built-in viewer to see any type of document.""We shred all our paper and no longer need the cabinet space. We used to have about six to 12 inches of cabinet space per customer, which is now gone.""Centralized our business documents.""One of our clients, a customer of IBM, rolled out and replaced their existing ECM system with FileNet. Their productivity has increased pretty dramatically."

"With this solution, the sharing of documents if very easy to do. There's a lot of collaboration you can do with your colleagues.""It was extremely easy to setup.""Being able to use OneDrive as a mapped drive in Windows Explorer is the most valuable feature. Rather than using OneDrive on a browser, you can also open up the Windows Explorer and I can see the file structure in the normal format.""They have support for integration with a lot of tools.""Image management is great since the search is simple, and accessing images with labels is easy.""The most valuable feature of the solution is the amount of space allotted to each user that is issued a subscription.""It's quite easy to use and then of course it is quite well integrated to the rest of Office 365.""The stability of Microsoft OneDrive is very good, it is reliable. There were multiple instances where I had lost my valuable data on hard drives in several other places. However, with Microsoft OneDrive, I've never lost a single file."

Cons
"I would recommend not going with ECM 8 and going with FileNet instead. It seems like that is the future of the lower-volume repository. It seems like they are moving away from ECM 8.5 so I think we're going to have some challenges coming up, getting off of that technology.""I would like to see seamless application integration.""I think it's already getting away from Java applets. A lot of our users struggle with keeping up to date with Java versioning, so a lot of the functions they're doing, like printing, emailing, and even some of the viewing, they're struggling with.""The development platform is not local. For example, you need 100 days in IBM, whereas other platforms, like ServiceNow, need only 20 days."

More IBM ECM Cons →

"We would like to see, in FileNet, the ability to manage video and audio.""Programmers have to translate user needs into IBM FileNet, which causes misinterpretations.""Currently, our primary ERP system is SAP S/4HANA. Despite this, we have encountered difficulties integrating the solution with it, which remains an unresolved challenge for our team.""However, the configuration does take a long time. Every company needs its own configuration design. It depends on how many applications are connecting to FileNet. It can take a long time, depending on the application count.""I would like to see the dashboard be a little bit more robust and a little more user-friendly""I think the support could be better, and it could improve.""The only downside is that it takes a dedicated staff to maintain it and the learning curve is pretty steep.""A little better control into the ACLs of FileNet and databases."

More IBM FileNet Cons →

"The area that can be improved is to be able to share easily with folks outside the organization and with folks who don't have an office account. Sometimes, when you send a link, you might have some form of repetition. If you don't know how to share it properly, whoever you are sharing it with will have issues using it. Also, the link that you use to share a document can be made a bit shorter. It doesn't have to be long. Typically, when you want to share a document, it has everything, such as the name of the organization, SharePoint, etc. A short URL will be easier to use, and it will just make life easier, especially because a lot of people are now going mobile. I'm not sure if there's a mobile version of Microsoft OneDrive, similar to Google Drive. If they don't have a mobile app, it would also be nice to have a mobile app because that would help in checking out your documents. It would be easy to check your documents on the go on your phone.""The technical support is really very bad.""The user interface sometimes fails and when it cannot connect, it does not give the reason why.""It takes too long for OneDrive to synchronize various applications, especially when you are saving office data. It also requires too much bandwidth.""The initial setup is not easy.""I think it should be more user-friendly with more tutorials on the full scale of the program.""An online video player would be great, since sometimes you have to download the video to play it.""The file structure insight could be made more flexible like for creating more flexible folders."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Reach out to local IBM partners."
  • More IBM ECM Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "The biggest issue is the cost of the FileNet, because the license cost is very high. If a customer doesn't have good technical guides that are aware of the license calculation, they will pay too much. FileNet's license calculation depends on the processor and number of users. So my advice to a new customer is to be very careful with your calculations before purchasing FileNet."
  • "It is still a leading ECM solution provider, however the cost to implement and maintain are higher than other solutions."
  • "FileNet is not cheap, but you absolutely get what you pay for. "
  • "For small scale industries, they allow different options. They can do open source. It is the complexity of the data security that they should think about before they choose."
  • "For the medium scale or large scale, I would recommend FileNet. FileNet is free of licensing expenses, thus good for the money. It is not expensive, but worth for the money, especially for medium scale and large scale industries."
  • "There are lots of components to the product. Make sure before you invest that you know which components you need."
  • "1. It will be more expensive than estimated to setup. 2. You will need to double the staff while you are running the old system and installing the new system. 3. Depending on the number of documents to be migrated, make sure you understand the potentially massive amount of time and effort required to migrate the existing content to the new platform."
  • "The physical space that we have gained back pays for the service. Therefore, it has reduced our operating costs overall. We have definitely seen ROI. I would estimate $30,000 a year."
  • More IBM FileNet Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Costwise, it is a great option. In most cases, it is a free space, which will be more than enough for most customers."
  • "Using this software, it has had an amazing impact moneywise on our business. It allows us to share documents without the need of extra hardware."
  • "We pay a lot for the Enterprise version, but it is a premium service."
  • "OneDrive comes with Microsoft 365 so it is just an added part of that package."
  • "It is free if you are using Office 365, and you get a terabyte of storage with your account."
  • "This is a pricy solution, given that we are only using it at 50% capacity."
  • "The price of Microsoft OneDrive is reasonable and compatible with competitors."
  • "The licensing is expensive and on a yearly basis."
