Quick support, overall high quality, and reliable
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature of Fortinet FortiWLC is the overall high quality."
  • "Fortinet FortiWLC is not simple to configure when compared to other solutions. The design could be better."

What is our primary use case?

We are using Fortinet FortiWLC for internet connections as part of our network.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature of Fortinet FortiWLC is the overall high quality.

What needs improvement?

Fortinet FortiWLC is not simple to configure when compared to other solutions. The design could be better.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Fortinet FortiWLC for approximately three months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability of Fortinet FortiWLC is good. However, I have only used the solution for a small amount of time.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have approximately 50 people using this solution in my organization. We do not have plans to increase the number of users of this solution.

How are customer service and support?

We have used the support from Fortinet FortiWLC. We opened a ticket to Fortinet support. They have good support, but it was a simple issue that we had to be resolved. They responded quickly and with a correct answer. We contacted them during regular business hours.

I rate the support from Fortinet FortiWLC a five out of five.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We have used many other solutions, such as Ubiquiti and Alcatel-Lucent. The main reason we switched to Fortinet FortiWLC was because of the value for the money.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup of Fortinet FortiWLC is not complex but the process could be easier. Other solutions are more complex. It took us approximately three hours to do the configuration.

What about the implementation team?

We did the implementation of Fortinet FortiWLC in-house. We have someone who supports the solution.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The price of Fortinet FortiWLC is high. The solution will be out of the market for us because the price is too high for the features it provides.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I have evaluated Huawei and they have aggressive pricing in the market at this time.

What other advice do I have?

Fortinet FortiWLC is a good option for those looking for this type of solution. However, the price of the solution tends to increase over time and soon it will not be worth the price. There are better and more options on the market now.

I rate Fortinet FortiWLC a

Good support, easy to manage, and excels in the cloud environment
Pros and Cons
  • "The technical support from Extreme Networks is perfect."
  • "The ability to integrate with network devices from other vendors would be helpful."

What is our primary use case?

We are a distributor for various networking products and ExtremeWireless is one of the solutions that we have experience with. We do between 2,000 and 3,000 projects a year for industries such as hospitality, entertainment, and education.

What is most valuable?

Their main power is the cloud environment because it's much better than the others in the market.

This product is easy to manage.

What needs improvement?

The ability to integrate with network devices from other vendors would be helpful.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have used this product for about 11 years, since before Aerohive was acquired by Extreme Networks.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Stability is 100% because we have never had an experience with faulty hardware. This is a product that we will continue to distribute.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

In terms of scalability, so far, we haven't found a project that it wasn't able to fulfill. I think that officially, they go up to more than 10,000 IPs. We don't have such big companies in the Netherlands.

How are customer service and technical support?

The technical support from Extreme Networks is perfect. If we have an issue then there's always very quick response and we don't have any problems. As we are trained to give support to our clients, it is only on rare occasions that we need vendor support.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward. It is all based in the cloud, so it's very simple.

What about the implementation team?

We are fully trained to give our customers the second and third-line support.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

There are both paid and free licenses of the cloud environment, with only basic functionality in the free version. The paid version is priced to fit the market. Suitability of one over the other depends on the customer's needs.

What other advice do I have?

In summary, this is a good product and one that I recommend.

I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

Excellent cloud connectivity, with a single console that can be monitored and managed from any location in the world.
Pros and Cons
  • "All IPs can be managed and monitored by the customer from a single console."
  • "We would like to see a better licensing model for our customers."

What is our primary use case?

We recently proposed a Ruckus solution using Cisco switches, in our local area. We have a local network for Cisco switches that we can help implement, as well as wireless connectivity that we are proposing. For a better wifi experience, we proposed a Ruckus solution.

What is most valuable?

It has great features.

It also has cloud connectivity. All IPs can be managed and monitored by the customer from a single console. They will also manage and share the various regions' IPs and locations all over the world. However, a single console can be monitored and managed from anywhere in the world.

What needs improvement?

We would like to see a better licensing model for our customers.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been providing Ruckus Wireless for a couple of months.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Ruckus Wireless is scalable.

We have three or four clients who currently use Ruckus Wireless.

How are customer service and support?

Technical support is fine.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We also provide Cisco Catalyst Switches, and Alcatel switches for customers. We are gold partners with Alcatel which is why we work with Alcatel products such as PBX, network switches, and WiFi.

How was the initial setup?

The installation is straightforward.

I can take a week to install.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Commercially Ruckus for its features, its pricing is expensive for the customer. Customers go back and forth with the pricing, but we convince them that it is beneficial to include features.

Licensing is subscription-based.

What other advice do I have?

This solution is provided by a team of three engineers at the upper and management levels.

I would recommend this solution to others who are interested in using it.

I would rateRuckus Wireless an eight out of ten.
