Easy setup and an a la carte pricing model
The solution needs a more modern interface. One of our biggest complaints is that we don't have the ability to dynamically push our interface to participants. Adobe Connect is an older technology, but it allows us to push our own layout and design to participants. One of the solution's strengths is that it's web-only but that is also a weakness. It is not a software solution but is browser-based which has its advantages and disadvantages. Zoom has become such a force that its ease of use surpasses ON24.

Internal communication has become more efficient while mobile usage still needs improvement
The honest answer is that the product has not really evolved in some time. Microsoft has been pushing everyone towards Teams and Skype for Business has been in maintenance mode for a while. The mobile experience is also not great. Staff who try to use it on their phones find it less reliable than the desktop version, calls drop more, and the interface is clunky. For a modern workforce that expects everything to work on mobile, that is a gap. Despite the initial setup challenges and mobile issues, we have noticed positive outcomes for our organization since adopting Skype for Business. I rate Skype for Business seven out of ten. I think that Skype for Business has served us well for what it is. A government office has different expectations from a fast-moving private company. We value stability and security over the newest features. On those terms, Skype for Business has delivered.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Friendly user interface and simple navigation."
"In general, the solution provides a good experience, the user interface is friendly and from the user perspective, navigation was simple."
"The solution works well with third-party integrations."
"It's a good product, we like using it."
"The ability to mute everyone else is pretty useful when there is a large audience."
"The performance is pretty good, this is a mature application with no bugs, and I have no complaints."
"A good option for virtual meetings."
"I think Skype for Business is scalable. However, I believe Microsoft is discontinuing the Skype platform altogether, so I don't think it's super-relevant."
"Using this solution has helped us to cut long distance calls, as well as video services from third parties."
"We like the easy provisioning of Skype for Business Conferencing."
"Scalable communication tool that's easy to install. Even old people are using it, because of its ease of use."

Cons

"Bandwidth optimization could be increased."
"The solution needs a more modern interface."
"One thing that could be improved is that there is a 5,000 person limit."
"I am not familiar with all of the features or whether they can hold conferences because we use Zoom for that. But, in my opinion, if they can do something similar to what Zoom is doing, it will be a complete solution."
"There is one issue regarding the audio settings. The application tends to select the internal microphone on devices rather than detecting external headphones."
"We would like to better customize our instructions within the Outlook plugin/invite, but we are unable to do so."
"The product is very heavy. It's very unmanageable."
"Skype for Business is not as popular as Teams."
"The user experience during long sessions could be improved to avoid issues like intermittent disconnections or login failures."
"Skype for Business is good for the PCs with higher bandwidth, but an improvement is required for low bandwidth usage."
"There are not many options, in terms of some other third-party integration."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We paid $1,800 for five webinars, which is the standard fee. If you require support there is a $300 additional fee, extra attendees is an additional fee, integration is an additional fee, etc. All these extras could add on another $2,500 which was not in our budget."
"I am using a corporate account for which I have not made any payments."
"It may be considered costly for certain markets, such as in India."
"We have been able to save money by moving our conferencing solution to Skype for Business Conferencing."
"The licensing is billed on a yearly basis."
"Previously, I did not use another solution."
"When it comes to the pricing of the solution, I rate it as a five out of ten. It falls somewhere in the middle between being cheap and expensive."
"To realize value from the purchase of Skype Business, you need to take advantage of all the important functions of the program."
"We purchased an open license."
