Better support and more accessible resources are crucial. Customers have expressed that support is not as flexible, and it is difficult to obtain necessary information quickly. Customers would benefit from improved training material for integration with other products. The solution's pricing is high and needs to be reconsidered, and the technical support should improve to provide more accessible and open information.

Great for identifying application interdependencies with helpful support but needs better visualizations
We're just trying to identify the application interdependencies, which normally reside on different servers, including web servers, database servers, enterprise service bus, et cetera, up to your presentation layer before we start moving stuff around. Normally, the reason why we use these tools is to understand what assets we have, where they're deployed, and how they enter and operate before we decide to go move something from point A to point B. The solution is going to allow me to establish a wave or migration plan where you have different waves of migration and then you actually have move groups to try and get your application moved from A to B seamlessly. A to B could be on-premise to on-premise. It could be on-premise to cloud. Et cetera. The solution can tell me what components can I deploy, for example, into a cloud space, without having to refactor my applications since that can be quite time-consuming and costly.

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"CA UIM gives us interoperability between network and server monitoring, as well as the ability for us to be a one-stop shop."
"Great customized dashboards and drill down reports with auto serve analytics."
"Besides the technical benefits described, CA UIM and CA Spectrum were the key factors in increasing the SLA from the IT environment to 99.99%, from the 99.5% achieved without CA solutions."
"There is nothing we can't monitor with this product and do so in a very easy and efficient manner."
"We are able to go in and actually leverage the thick client for a nice easy drag and drop solution."
"It has provided greater security for our most important asset which is the handling of information."
"The most valuable feature is the very large probe number, over 180, for different technologies, that all communicate their metrics through one product."
"I definitely appreciate the flexibility and ease of use. We've been using UIM for almost three years now. It's pretty much point and click, very easy to use. And we've had no problems scaling it to our own environment."
"It gives you full 360-degree visibility into your entire infrastructure."
"The most valuable features are security detections, perimeter detection, dashboards, and alerts."
"It's a must-have solution for large IT Operations, providing the ability to analyze infrastructure and application-related performance and data from the wire perspective."
"There are many valuable features in this product, but probably the biggest is the customization capability it has."
"You cannot hide from the wire; all truth lives in the packets, and ExtraHop gets them to talk!"
"Not only can you look at the protocol import level. It also has a live PCAP analysis."
"This solution is more applications reference architecture focused. Its benefit is that it specializes in that space."
"ExtraHop is far ahead of anything comparable in the industry."

Cons

"UIM is showing its age, and needs a major overhaul to keep up with competitors."
"Although the products is easy to deploy, the implementation effort is still inconsistent."
"Initially, in the UK, we had challenges having to engage the standard process."
"It seems clunky, not as user friendly as Spectrum, for example."
"The major problem we have when we sell CA UIM is that we need to sell additional products because it doesn't cover all the features."
"We encountered scalability issues in some areas such as bandwidth monitoring."
"It was complex, due to the configuration that we already had with another tool, implementing everything again took us longer than planned; it really is a difficult tool to configure, specifically in our infrastructure."
"It is a little complex to use versus other softwares."
"Network visibility is something that needs to be improved."
"They have a new solution, ExtraHop Reveal(x), and I think it needs improvement."
"Additional out-of-the-box solutions and use cases would be nice."
"There is room for improvement in the security part. They have a new solution, ExtraHop Reveal(x), and I think it needs improvement."
"This solution would be improved if it had the ability to retain data longer."
"The improvement that would make the most impact would be expanding on the new EXA big data back end."
"We've had some struggles getting it to see everything that we want to see. Network visibility is something that needs to be improved."
"I would improve the Rule-Based Access Control (RBAC) by providing granular access control to the data."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"This product is expensive compared to other vendors (SolarWinds, ManageEngine)."
"CAD $400,000 annually."
"Pricing for DX Unified Infrastructure Management isn't cheap at all. It's a complex tool, so you have to pay more. No one is happy with a large bill to pay, but if it's a complex product and you designed a complex solution to be monitored, it'll be your fault that you need to buy an expensive product, and that would be implicit in the design of DX Unified Infrastructure Management. Monitoring is just a small part of it. Sometimes you have to pay a significant amount of money for a complex yet very good solution."
"The license cost depends on the number of probes and robots."
"The product-price ratio is better than other brands such as Fortinet or SonicWall."
"Reasonable setup cost and licensing prices."
"The pricing is fair considering the value provided."
"The pricing is higher than other solutions, but with such good features, I think it's worth it."
"The price of this solution for our environment is about £650,000 ($855,000 USD) for three years."
