The automation part is giving us a cost benefit and speed; we can react faster.

This is a time-saving measure because we don't need to deploy a cluster or a firewall each time; we just create a virtual system on the management server using the same appliance.
Incident response time has reduced significantly, and downtime due to network issues has been minimized, leading to an improved return on investment.
The fact that we've not had any breach toward the data center side is plenty enough.

Sentiment score
7.5
Juniper SRX Series Firewall is scalable and popular among businesses, but faces clustering issues and tough competition.
Sentiment score
8.5
Sophos UTM offers scalable solutions, praised for adaptability and high availability, requiring accurate sizing and additional resources occasionally.
They scale up really well from smaller models like the FortiGate 40 and 50 to bigger sites with the FortiGate 100 for more throughput - up to enterprise datacenters.
The variation comes in terms of the interfaces and throughputs, but from a security perspective, you get the same benefit, irrespective of whether you have an entry-level unit or an enterprise.
We determine sizing based on multiple factors: number of users, available links, traffic types, server count, services in use, and whether services will be published.
If specified correctly, even the smaller boxes offer high session and bandwidth rates, making the solution highly scalable, even up to telco-level requirements.
It is easy to scale up by adding capacity through clustering or upgrading the license, and it effectively handles spikes in remote user connections or increased east-west traffic without noticeable bottlenecks.
Scalability must be carefully planned for, considering future growth and user base increases.

Stability Issues

Sentiment score
7.7
Fortinet FortiGate is praised for its dependable stability, minimal downtime, and robust performance, especially with regular firmware updates.
Sentiment score
7.9
Check Point Quantum Force (NGFW) offers robust stability for most users, though some report issues with updates and version changes.

Juniper SRX Firewall is stable and reliable, but proper configuration is crucial for maintaining performance under demanding conditions.
Sentiment score
7.1
Sophos UTM is stable and dependable, though occasional updates and hardware issues may cause minor slowdowns.
We're experiencing 99.999% availability consistently.
I would rate the stability of Fortinet FortiGate a ten out of ten.
Currently, we are experiencing a general outage of one of the main internet service providers of the Dominican Republic, and we have not been impacted in our operations because with SD-WAN, we have another internet service provider and we are working with the second WAN connection without any disruption.
While the solution is generally stable, there are complications, such as requiring SmartConsole for deployment and upgrades, which can be time-consuming.
I have worked with Check Point products for 15 years and haven't found any stability or performance issues.
The use of Check Point firewalls has helped improve our security posture without any downtime.
The solution has absolutely high stability.

Room For Improvement

Users seek improvements in FortiGate's performance, web interface, reporting, documentation, licensing, and training resources.
Check Point Quantum Force has stability, configuration, support, and integration challenges, with costly licensing affecting user experience and flexibility.
Juniper SRX Series Firewall needs improvements in user interface, interoperability, scalability, support, and lacks next-gen security features.
Sophos UTM struggles with scalability, configuration, performance, interface complexity, VPN, and support, needing significant improvements in these areas.
Investing in a solution that can accommodate such growth would be more cost-effective than repeatedly purchasing new hardware.
While Fortinet claims to offer a comprehensive network solution, it falls short in addressing computer application issues, particularly server security.
When considering Sophos XG, which we also use, the logging and reporting functionality is notably more efficient.
Other products, like FortiGate, are perceived as more intuitive because they are easier to configure from the start.
More granularity and control for threat prevention, especially on the OT side, would be beneficial.
It would be beneficial for Check Point NGFW to integrate more advanced AI and machine learning algorithms for better threat detection and response.
With a better user interface and graphical interface, the Juniper SRX Series Firewall could be a superior solution compared to what it is now.
With my extensive experience with the Juniper SRX Series Firewall, the robustness of the SD-Cloud or Security Director interface and overall functionality needs to be improved to compete with leading firewall solutions.
I would prefer to see additional features in the next release of Sophos UTM because cyber crime increases every day, so we also need to improve our game to prevent any chances for intrusion.
I would love to see artificial intelligence capabilities integrated into Sophos UTM.
With artificial intelligence, there is room for improvement in all antivirus and security software.

Setup Cost

Fortinet FortiGate offers robust features at a competitive price but can be costly, especially with licenses; long-term pricing negotiation advised.
Check Point Quantum Force offers strong security but is seen as expensive; flexible pricing and licensing can tailor costs effectively.
Juniper SRX Series Firewall provides competitive pricing with high performance, although advanced features and support may incur additional costs.
Sophos UTM pricing is competitive and cost-effective for three-year licenses, but additional support fees can increase expenses.
Last year, I renewed the support for three years, which can sometimes be expensive but depends on the security benefits and how it helps us.
It offers cost savings as it is generally cheaper than the competition.
It is about 20% cheaper.
In comparison to Fortinet and other products, the pricing may be considered high.
Compared to other solutions, the pricing of Check Point NGFW is high.
The perception is that Check Point NGFW is expensive, especially when all software modules are included.
The Juniper SRX Series Firewall is affordable and cost-effective.
Pricing has become expensive recently due to the dollar hike and naira value changes in Nigeria.
The value between what I receive and what I pay is the best in the industry.
The pricing would be more economical if sold directly to the user compared to going through a partner, as they need to take their percentage.

Valuable Features

Fortinet FortiGate provides robust security, seamless integration, user-friendly interface, and cost-effective advanced threat management for diverse network environments.
Check Point Quantum Force offers advanced threat detection, seamless VPN, and AI-driven security, enhancing management and reducing incidents.
Juniper SRX Firewall excels in routing, security, management, and support, offering high performance, scalability, and threat prevention.
Sophos UTM is valued for its advanced security features, user-friendly interface, and cost-effective integration for small to mid-size businesses.
In terms of security, we have not experienced any security flaws or loopholes, and it has proven to be quite stable.
FortiGate has helped reduce the risk of cyberattacks that might disrupt our client's production.
These features help reduce our downtime, manage the ISPs, and deploy SLAs for all the website traffic.
The firewall's default behavior of blocking all traffic, including a cleanup rule that blocks everything from external to internal sources, is highly valuable for protecting our network.
The most valuable features in my experience include perimeter firewalling, cloud and mobile security, application control, URL filtering, DLP, threat prevention, intrusion protection, and safeguarding against malware, botnets, and zero-day attacks.
Since implementing it, we have noticed a lot less getting through that maybe other antivirus within firewalls had failed to catch.
The routing, Layer 2, 3, 4 solutions in the network layers are valuable features.
Juniper SRX Series Firewall helps in terms of network security for my customers by protecting end-users from any form of cyber attack or threat, with a good database that updates and pushes out signatures to defend against threats.
The zero-day protection and firewall rules are some of the most effective features for threat management.
It helps us quite a lot, especially because since we use Sophos UTM, malware intrusions are not rampant.
This integration of the antivirus and the firewall works together to enhance security.

A stable solution with an intuitive interface and quick customer service
I have been working with Fortinet FortiGate, WatchGuard, Sophos, and SonicWall. I'm not as comfortable with SonicWall because of their UI and limitations. I prefer Fortinet above all other options. When it comes to configuration, I am confident in my ability to handle various tasks, including creating policies such as firewall rules, web policies, and application policies. Additionally, I can configure VPNs and implement load balancing, among other tasks. Overall, I feel much more comfortable working with Fortinet. Fortinet has made significant improvements by integrating AI with firewalls for threat analysis and prevention. In the past 2-3 years, they have launched FortiSASE and SIEM, and they also provide SOC services. Both Palo Alto and Fortinet FortiGate are excellent. While Fortinet FortiGate comes at higher prices, the functionality and support justify the cost. They promptly resolve firmware issues and inform all support providers about configuration changes.

Has strengthened threat detection and reduced incident response efforts with advanced inspection and secure architecture
A place where Check Point Quantum Force (NGFW) can improve is in the VPN configuration. It does not provide seamless VPN failover between other devices. Since R80, in R82, they have provided enhanced link failover for VPN failover, but it is not widely used, and we have not been able to achieve VPN failover with it. Check Point Quantum Force (NGFW) needs to work in this field. Another area for improvement is during the upgrade process. When we try to upgrade from the Gaia portal and download a certain hotfix during the standalone upgrade, it needs to automatically delete the previous hotfix to provide enough space for the upgrade, which other firewalls do.

Robust security measures and cost-effectiveness meet diverse industry needs
The biggest benefit of Juniper SRX Series Firewall overall is that it is rugged and cost-effective, offering basic firewall features and additional licensed features as needed. The main challenge I see as a distributor is Juniper's rating in the Gartner report, where Juniper is not a leader in enterprise security, which often influences customer conversations. Most customers want to check the Gartner report before they engage, making it challenging to sell Juniper security. With my extensive experience with the Juniper SRX Series Firewall, the robustness of the SD-Cloud or Security Director interface and overall functionality needs to be improved to compete with leading firewall solutions.

Network protection strengthens through effective threat management features and secure access control
The zero-day protection and firewall rules are some of the most effective features for threat management. I can set the rules and features, and also use IPsec to connect all my on-premises servers and link them to Sophos UTM so that they are protected even when in the cloud. Additionally, I use it to control access into the building through a captive portal integrated across all the PCs we have, ensuring secure access only for authenticated users.
