Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"I have integrated it for incidence response. If there is a security event, the Cisco firewall will automatically block the traffic, which is valuable.""It has a good security level. It is a next-generation firewall. It can protect from different types of attacks. We have enabled IPS and IDS.""The most important features are the intrusion prevention engine and the application visibility and control. The Snort feature in Firepower is also valuable.""One of the nice things about Firepower is that you can set it to discover the environment. If that is happening, then Firepower is learning about every device, software operating system, and application running inside or across your environment. Then, you can leverage the discovery intelligence to get Firepower to select the most appropriate intrusion prevention rules to use for your environment rather than picking one of the base policies that might have 50,000 IPS rules in it, which can put a lot of overhead on your firewall. If you choose the recommendations, as long as you update them regularly, you might be able to get your rule set down to only 1,000 or 1,500, which is a significant reduction in a base rule set. This means that the firewall will give you better performance because there are less rules being checked unnecessarily. That is really useful.""A good intrusion prevention system and filtering.""The solution offers very easy configurations.""The implementation is pretty straightforward.""The most valuable feature is stability."

"I have found the solution has some great features overall, such as guest access capabilities, dashboards, and ease of use. There is plenty of documentation and support and it has the plugins that I needed.""The solution is good for a basic firewall for a small business or for home use.""The system in general is quite flexible.""The VPN server feature is the most valuable. It is integrated with Radius and AAA for doing accounting and authentication. Insight view is also an important feature for me at this time. It allows me to assess our network traffic. I also like the firewall feature. The BSD kernel has a packet filter. It is one of the most solid frameworks for firewalls. Its user interface is one of the best interfaces I have used.""We have found pretty much all the features of the solution to be valuable.""The graphic user interface is very good and it is user-friendly which makes the product easy-to-use.""The interface and the dashboard are the most valuable features of this solution.""The initial implementation process is simple."

"It's a stable solution.""The intrusion prevention is great, and I like dual virus scanning on the network layer because we scan it through Avira and Sophos. Web filtering is also a fantastic option for clients who want to really lock down internet access.""Sophos UTM is the simplest of these products to setup.""It is a very good product. The threat monitoring process is the most valuable feature.""Monitoring and reporting are areas that need improvement.""Sophos SG UTM had all the basic functionality that you needed. It is user-friendly and easy to manage for any integrator.""Sophos is a unified solution. We have anti-virus protection, firewall rules, knotting, and DACC all in one box.""With Sophos, we have not had any incidents this year. The security provided has been good. It has proven to be okay for our needs."

Cons
"The intelligence has room for improvement. There are some hackers that we haven't seen before and its ability to detect those types of attacks needs to be improved.""FlexConfig is there as a bridge for features that are not yet natively integrated into Firepower. It is a way of allowing you to be able to configure things that wouldn't otherwise be possible until the development team can add them into Firepower's native capability. There is still some work that needs to be done around FlexConfig. There are still quite a few complex things, like policy-based routing, that have to be done in FlexConfig, and it doesn't always work perfectly. Sometimes, there are some glitches. It is recommended that you configure FlexConfig policies with Cisco TAC. It would be good to see Cisco accelerate some of those configurations that you can only do in FlexConfig into the platform, so that they are there natively.""My team tells me that other solutions such as Fortinet and Palo Alto are easier to implement.""The performance should be improved.""One issue with Firepower Management Center is deployment time. It takes seven to 10 minutes and that's a long time for deployment. In that amount of time, management or someone else can ask me to change something or to provide permissions, but during that time, doing so is not possible. It's a drawback with Cisco. Other vendors, like Palo Alto or Fortinet do not have this deployment time issue.""The initial setup can be a bit complex for those unfamiliar with the solution.""The solution could offer better control that would allow the ability to restrictions certain features from a website.""The configuration in Firepower Management Center is very slow. Deployment takes two to three minutes. You spend a lot of time on modifications. Whereas, in FortiGate, you press a button, and it takes one second."

More Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall Cons →

"The only thing that I would like to see improved is the Insight or the NetFlow analysis part. It would be good to have the possibility to dig down on the Insight platform. Right now, we can easily do only a few analyses. If this page becomes more powerful, it surely will be a well-adopted platform.""The logging could improve in OPNsense.""The solution could be more secure.""The interface isn't so friendly user. But we have some technicians here who are quite confident with this tool. OPNSense could maybe add sets of rules so it's simpler to manage different groups with particular needs.""The interface needs to be simplified. It is not user-friendly.""There are issues with stability and reliability.""The ability to set the VPN IP address would be a welcome addition.""I would like to see better SD-WAN performance."

More OPNsense Cons →

"The initial setup was straightforward. The full deployment takes approximately two days which could be simplified to reduce the time. The major part of the process is the configuration and the policy setup.""There needs to be some improvement in the IPsec VPN. There is implementation only support. I have version one. I'd be most interested in having IP version two from the protocol.""The solution needs to do better at covering mobile devices, although they may have an integrated solution for that purpose.""It would be nice if it had basic features, such as DLP (Data Loss Prevention).""Sophos should be more user-friendly, have more dashboards, and an easier implementation.""When we call support, we get put on hold for a long time.""Anti-phishing functionality should be improved.""The solution is not scalable."
