Automation test development becomes accessible and effective for functional testers
Tricentis Tosca is a codeless tool, making it easy for everyone to understand the transition of how to develop scenarios or test cases. In Tricentis Tosca, analyzing failures is straightforward because every time it fails somewhere, I get the screenshot, which helps me analyze how and why it failed. It has all the modules, including some pre-built ones that can be reused efficiently. Compared to other code tools such as Selenium, where I used to develop one script in one day, with Tricentis Tosca I can easily develop one script in four hours or three hours, saving four to five hours in a day.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable feature is the ability to virtualize almost any web service which allows us to perform testing and speed up our development."
"The CAI aka Pathfinder is a great capability and will help the organization to achieve SV goals and expand the SV to different systems without many firewall changes or changes in the existing environment setup."
"In the case of the virtualization of TCP/IP protocols for third-party terminal insurance, there was a device terminal, which was interacting with the application via the TCP/IP protocol. Most of the tools don't support that, but we were able to achieve it using Broadcom Service Virtualization."
"If we didn't have that CA Service Virtualization, we would have to run our performance tests during the night, because that's when the mainframe is least used."
"For service virtualization, you can have continuous testing and development without interruption to your test cycle."
"I think it definitely helps us reduce time to market, and in terms of dollar savings it helps us quite a bit."
"The most valuable feature is that it's available 24/7."
"I would recommend others to use CA Service Virtualization for all their virtualization needs as it is easy to use and the support provided via the CA Communities is also great."
"We decided to go with Testsuite because you can integrate manual test cases and you can see the reports in a nice way and see how the test case is going in the requirement section."
"It's stable and reliable."
"This solution is very easy to learn and any non-programmer or manual tester, with little experience in automation, can pick it up quite easily."
"The most valuable features of Tricentis Tosca are all the test automation functionality. It is a full-scale automation tool."
"One feature we like is the live connectivity of the product, in other words, you can push transactions through to live, and you can intercept some transactions and return them back with mocked data."
"What I find valuable is that Tricentis is always refining the test methodology."
"Give it a go. Having since used Selenium to build an automation suite in another organisation, I feel Tosca has clear advantages in both the scope of applications that it can automate (web, mobile, windows, and more) as well as the intuitive GUI and powerful generation of test data combinations."
"It's a simple tool, particularly in terms of system testing. You can also convert and automate using Tricentis Tosca with ease."

Cons

"Customer service in Italian is not very useful."
"Scalability is the reason I rated it as 8/10. We’re going through some challenges with scalability right now."
"Technical documentation needs some more improvements by explaining live scenarios."
"The initial setup of this solution is not straightforward at all; the installation is unnecessarily complex, and user-friendliness is not an area that CA DevTest can boast about."
"UI should be more user friendly: better usability, more testing oriented."
"It’s a good product, but comes with a hefty cost. If there is a better licensing/cost negotiation, then it can work, otherwise it’s not a viable solution."
"The concept of agent installation is a tedious process and should have been much simpler."
"It's not really meant for Services Testing and reporting functionality from the CA SV console - it's a very basic one."
"One thing to improve in Tricentis Tosca is that it's not compatible with Excel based forms. Another area for improvement is that the tool is not compatible with OpenText applications. The support and licensing cost for it also need improvement. The tool also needs cloud support, as it's currently on-premises only."
"I personally feel like the pricing is a little bit on the high end."
"The solution is expensive."
"Parallel execution is not yet implemented for Tosca. This means you can't execute the same test case on multiple machines remotely."
"Licensing needs to be packaged and not too granular at the component level."
"The support from Tricentis Tosca needs to be improved. I have not been happy with their support."
"The product needs to improve object identification. The identify with properties and anchor methods work perfectly, while the by-index and image methods may face challenges."
"Run time test execution status: They have improved on this a bit by introducing a progress bar. However, it can be further improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"There is a yearly licensing cost, and I would give it a four out of five."
"I don't have the exact dollar amount, but we have spent close to $1,000,000 for a three-year agreement, for an enterprise level."
"There are additional fees for advanced-level technical support."
"I think the pricing is quite fair because this solution provides a lot of functionalities, and is quite stable."
"I would like to see better costing packs. There are several features but USD $11,000 for one license is expensive."
"In terms of the licensing costs for Tricentis Tosca, we are spending more or less $70,000 per year. We have a very complex mechanism because there are some business users and some BI users, so the licensing structure is not simple, but support is included."
"Pricing could be better."
"The licensing cost for Tricentis Tosca is expensive. It has multiple features, but to use all of its features, you have to pay for additional licenses."
"Licensing fees are paid on a yearly basis."
"On a scale of one to ten, where one is very cheap and ten is very expensive, I rate the pricing a ten. The licensing model is based on a yearly basis."
"We hired a consultant to figure out all the tools in our company and how they fit in our company before we purchased the solution."
"The pricing of the solution comes as part of our Tosca bundle."
