Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We used Commvault and Microsoft solutions. We switched to Veeam because of better licensing and pricing.

Flexible, easy to use with a great storage gateway feature
Pros and Cons
  • "Storage gateway feature is very flexible."
  • "Not highly customizable."

What is our primary use case?

We use Veeam ONE because we have a Windows and Linux environment, and we also have Office365. Microsoft doesn't back up the data from Office365, they only have checkpoints so the customer is required to backup that data, if that's what their composite calls for. Although we use the solution on premise, we write data off to the cloud every couple of months. We are customers of Veeam One and I'm an IT professional.

What is most valuable?

This is a very easy to use solution and it's scalable in terms of how big your environment is. I like the Veeam storage gateway feature. As a customer, it allows you to take some of the old monthly backups and write that off to the cloud, whether it's AWS or Azure or a private cloud, it really doesn't matter. It's just really flexible to use. It also supports Windows Linux and you can even do desktop backups with it. I think the best feature is the O365 functionality, which is a separate product, but it works right alongside Veeam ONE.

What needs improvement?

This is not a highly customizable solution but there is very little that needs improvement in this product. They actually improved the UI, it has a very Window-ish interface now so that once you log into the console, all your servers are listed down the left hand side, and particularly for an auditor, you can see the policies and make changes, search for the retention, the backups, etc. As an IT professional, we want everything free so the price of the product could be reduced, but they do need to pay their developers.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using this solution for two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Veeam ONE is more stable than the operating system it lives on. So it lives in Windows and that's more of a concern than the actual application itself. Veeam is very, very good. It's that underlying OS. If I could put that in Linux, I would do it in a heartbeat.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Scalability is one of the more impressive things about Veeam ONE. I could scale up or down as much as I want or need. If it's simply a license issue, it's just increasing your number of licenses. They're very flexible in how they initially license you. But if you just buy what you need and add on over time, it works very well and that's what we want. We want easy stuff that works and that's reliable and is supported, and doesn't cost a fortune, but if they want to lower the price, that's even better.

Our administration team uses the solution, so maybe two or three people just managing it. Once you set it up, it's automatic. You can set up emails to alert a group or a person or a team that the backups are done, and that it's fine. My entire team has access to it, and there are five of us, but we don't get into it every day. We're a small company in the medical industry, and  we had several audits a year. It was crucial that the data was being backed up and encrypted, which is another great feature of Veeam. It just uses the native encryption there, or you can run Vormetric as your encryption mechanism for the backups themselves. The solution doesn't require a backup administrator, you can use one of your Windows admins to log in and do the occasional restore or run a report. There's no need to maintain the software.

How are customer service and technical support?

Customer service was great, they responded very quickly. There is also a lot of information available on Youtube and that can help with installation. But the support is there and if you call them they'll walk you through and solve any issue.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We were using Veritas before this, it's their NetBackup product. I find that difficult to use, but the great thing there is it can run on a Linux server.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was straightforward. When we moved to Veeam ONE, we had to install fresh, because we were not running the most current version. We just imported all of our former backups. It was drag and drop, and then setting up backup jobs is just crazy easy with Veeam ONE. Deployment took around four hours because we already had the backup jobs. If we didn't have the server built and the backup jobs it would have taken longer. We filled the server, installed Veeam ONE, imported all of our old backup data into that product and it was done. Their support was really good, we used a very skilled integrator who gave us lots of great tips.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We've been looking at other options, Rubrik is one of them. Like Veeam, it's very simple and it's just an appliance. It's like a 1U or 2U appliance. You put it in your data center's server room or whatever you have, you define a policy, and they're literally called gold, silver and bronze. When you discover the server within Rubrik, you can decide you want the gold backup which might mean full backups every night. The silver backups might do incrementals every night, fulls on the weekend, and then maybe bronze might be differentials and maybe full backups once a month, or whatever the business requires.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend this solution. Veeam is not highly customizable, but if someone's looking for a reliable, stable backup product that you can scale and get great support on, that supports multiple OS's, I would suggest using it. It's pretty good.

I would rate this solution an eight out of 10.

Customizable with good forecasting capabilities and a nice dashboard
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution offers a very straightforward setup."
  • "The pricing is very high."

What is our primary use case?

Veeam ONE is for dashboarding purposes. Veeam ONE has the ability to forecast how the infrastructure will be working in the future. You can visualize how you manage your resources or forecast storage. Veeam ONE can also forecast the usage of servers or the lifecycle of servers. It can tell you how your server's working currently and if you use X in the future, how many servers you require for new deployments.

What is most valuable?

It's very useful, customizable, and scalable.

It's good for forecasting future needs.

The dashboard has been very useful. It has good reporting on offer.

The solution offers a very straightforward setup.

It's stable.

What needs improvement?

There aren't really any areas for improvement.

The pricing is very high.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been working with the solution for about five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The scalability is very good. I'd rate it nine out of ten. It's easy to expand.

We have five to ten users on the product right now. They monitor 500 or 600 users from the dashboard.

How are customer service and support?

I haven't used technical support. I haven't had any issues. I've been able to manage everything so far.

How was the initial setup?

The setup is very simple and straightforward. That said, it can get complex once you add servers. It takes time to sync the server, for example.

It takes one to two hours to deploy the solution.

The whole process is very simple. You just click next, next, next, and you are done.

What was our ROI?

The stability is good. In a previous version, the stability was good, however, in the newer version, it is working properly. It's reliable. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It's an expensive solution. Clients sometimes wonder why they pay so much if they only want reporting.

Users can choose between monthly and yearly pricing.

What other advice do I have?

It is a very good product; however, it's expensive. I'd rate it nine out of ten based on the capabilities and value we get out of it.

Reliable, easy to set up, and has straightforward reporting capabilities
Pros and Cons
  • "It is easy to set up initially."
  • "We'd like to see them add more custom templates."

What is our primary use case?

We're still in a phase of the learning curve. Our learning curve is growing exponentially, and we are trying to get the best benefits from it as it's used for reporting and creating templates for reporting based on the business scope.

What is most valuable?

It's very reliable. We can generate many reports related to the backup across the sites, not only for the servers but for the workstations also.

The dashboard is great. It shows us the sizing, the backup, and the encrypted data (or what is not encrypted). It's helpful to see especially the sizing, as it can tell us a lot. We can calculate the data storage based on our needs. We can make sure there is an availability of resources for the nodes. It's giving us full visibility in our environment.

It is easy to set up initially.

The solution is scalable.

It is stable.

What needs improvement?

As a reporting tool, it's doing good. It's only used for reporting and to gain all the data across our Veeam and Backup Replication that we need. The areas of expansion are limited in our use case since it's only used for reporting.

We'd like to see them add more custom templates.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The product is stable. It's reliable. We haven't had issues with bugs or glitches, and it doesn't crash or freeze.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable and easy to expand.

We have six people using the product right now.

At this point, we do not have plans to increase usage.

How are customer service and support?

Technical support has been good overall.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I do have an experience in Veeam One, Veeam Enterprise, and Veeam Backup and Replication. I did not previously use a different solution that was not Veeam.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is very straightforward. It's not overly complex at all.

We only need one person to handle deployment and maintenance tasks.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I can't speak to the exact licensing costs.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We did take a look at Commvault and Veeam and ultimately chose to go with Veeam.

What other advice do I have?

I'm not sure which version of the solution I'm using. It's likely the latest version.

I'd advise potential new users to carefully review the steps and documentation. Users implementing the solution need to have an action plan in place. They need to have a roll-back plan in place as well in case anything goes wrong. Use the custom templates and use them to help manage everything.

Overall, I would rate the solution nine out of ten.

Integrated with Veeam backup and centralizes well
Pros and Cons
  • "I don't have to go back and forth between different applications to get the report I need."
  • "In future releases, I would like to see the solution provide auto resolution and auto relocation of resources."

What is our primary use case?

I am a system administrator. My role is to oversee the support of the company's network. I also take care of the deployment and maintenance. We use Veeam ONE to optimize hypervisors or my virtual machines.

How has it helped my organization?

The solution includes reporting on the virtual machines and the sources. It centralizes well.

What is most valuable?

Veeam ONE is integrated with Veeam backup, so it includes reporting on both. I don't have to go back and forth between different applications to get the report I need.

What needs improvement?

Veeam ONE does the basic job of reporting, but it does not meet my requirements of automated resolution.

In future releases, I would like to see the solution provide auto resolution and auto relocation of resources.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Veeam ONE for three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Veeam ONE performs as required. It is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

This solution is scalable. It depends on the kind of functions you require and what you want to get out of the product.

How are customer service and support?

I would rate Veeam ONE's technical support a four out of five.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup of Veeam ONE is simple and straightforward.

What about the implementation team?

The deployment was done in-house. It takes less than one day to deploy Veeam ONE. To implement, I created a virtual machine and installed Veeam ONE on it. I just had to attach it to the Hyper-V service.

What was our ROI?

Veeam ONE saves me a lot of time, so I don't have to look and monitor each service on its own.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We have a three-year license with Veeam billed annually. The cost is based on the number of core servers.

I would rate the pricing of the solution a three out of five.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I am looking into Turbonomic to see if it can do more than Veeam ONE.

What other advice do I have?

Veeam ONE is a good product if you are looking for monitoring and reporting. If you are looking for automated solutions, you will have to look somewhere else.

I would rate this solution an eight out of ten overall.

A product that is easy to use and provides good visibility to users
Pros and Cons
  • "The product's initial setup phase was straightforward."
  • "For our company's usage, the price of the product is considered to be one of the major drawbacks because we have a lot of infrastructure, and its services don't fit well with our needs."

What is our primary use case?

I use my company mostly to monitor Veeam O365's licensing and backup. In our company, we don't use it for infrastructure monitoring.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features of the solution stem from the fact that it works well for our company. The main feature we use of Veeam ONE in our company is Veeam O365.

What needs improvement?

I have no visibility on what needs to be improved in the solution.

For our company's usage, the price of the product is considered to be one of the major drawbacks because we have a lot of infrastructure, and its services don't fit well with our needs. The aforementioned area can be considered for improvement in the solution. The price of the product should be reduced.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Veeam ONE for six months to a year for two of our infrastructures.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Since I haven't received any feedback from my team related to the stability of the product in our company, I rate the product's stability a ten out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I don't have any visibility over the scalability options offered by the product.

Only two or three people in my organization work with the solution.

How was the initial setup?

The product's initial setup phase was straightforward.

I wasn't involved in the initial setup phase of the product.

The solution is deployed on an on-premises model.

The solution can be deployed in less than half a day.

Though I am not sure about how many people are required to take care of the deployment and maintenance of the product, I am sure that the two or three people who use the solution handle it.

What was our ROI?

With the use of Veeam ONE, our company was able to identify technical problems in our Veeam infrastructure, and we were also able to do some optimization work with its help.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

My company needs to pay towards the licensing cause attached to the solution on a monthly basis as my company operates as a service provider. The product is expensive.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

My company did not evaluate other options against Veeam ONE.

What other advice do I have?

The product fits well according to the needs of our company.

Veeam ONE is a simple product that is easy to use, and it provides good visibility of the environments in which it functions.

I rate the overall product a nine out of ten.
