We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Building apps is easy. You just drag in your data, and then you drag in all the elements that you want on your app. It's drag and drop design, and then you can customize your visuals. They make it all easy with plug and play widgets.""We've made a few enhancements to our Enterprise Manager system to allow self-reporting to grow. We see that as a very useful system. It's been incredibly beneficial in diagnosing production performance issues, diagnosing what reports are running slowly, where the SQL could be optimized, opportunities or metrics where we see long-time running performance. Enterprise Manager has been absolutely vital in giving us some of the insights about our system.""There are people who are using MicroStrategy as transaction services.""The architecture is very solid.""It helps all the store managers and supply chain people to obtain a view of the data and plan the next week, the next month, quarters, and so on.""Scalability is the best thing. You can really scale.""The technical support is quite good.""I think we have a huge enterprise-wide push to Visual Insight. Our environment has transformed over the last year. We were a strong "grid to PDF," "document to PDF," that's all we did. And then they came in with these Visual Insights and everyone was like, "Wow, that's kind of cool." We created a static reporting portal behind it and now, it's just taken our reports to another level. The level of insight that you get in a 30-second glimpse, it just revolutionized it for us. It gives the user a larger subset of the data so that they can actually maneuver around, rather than being specifically pointed at whatever your document is designed for."

"It provides insights into leads, information about the team and about various sales activities. The graphical representations in the form of charts is excellent.""The front end of this solution including the graph generation using SQL has been most useful.""It's a very strong analytics tool.""We use the solution for financial and sales analytics. It brings data from our IT incident management tool. Hence, we have three business use cases for IT support, sales and financials.""Scheduling of reports and dashboards is the most valuable feature of Zoho Analytics.""Ask Zia is a great feature that I use to quickly decide what improvements I need to make in order to present the data that I want to show.""We moved the data from Zoho Creator to Zoho Analytics and created reports.""We can create advanced-level reports with the tool. We can get data from different Zoho applications and also from other third-party applications. We can create schedules for syncing data from third parties to Zoho Analytics. We can also use table queries for getting data from more than one table."

Cons
"I would like to see more integration.""Data writeback, and on-the-fly predictive analysis results from R and Python could be improved.""We would like access to more storage and access to more metadata to build the right programs that can construct all the stuff for us instead of us having to type it in all the time.""MicroStrategy's mobile dashboard is still not a RESTful design.""We have seen some stability issues with MicroStrategy on cloud. We have a few unhappy customers.""We've found the scalability to be very good. However, it depends on the environment. In general, it could be much better.""It needs better visualizations.""Our users tend to say the interface is a pain."

More MicroStrategy Cons →

"The support for Zoho Analytics is pathetic.""I like the solution's Query Table feature which helps me write SQL queries. We can get data from different tables and then use it to create reports.""There is a limitation that we cannot create more than 300 columns in a worksheet on Zoho Analytics.""The customer service and support for this solution could be improved by faster response times.""The solution does not provide call center facilities for customer support.""The platform's pricing needs improvement.""The navigation on the interface is not intuitive.""A higher degree of artificial intelligence could be included in this solution. The data and overall insights could be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "They made a change in the licensing module some time ago and we can now use all the enterprise tools for free."
  • "The pricing for MicroStrategy is always on the higher side. They should seriously start thinking about their pricing and licensing strategy."
  • "While initial cost of MicroStrategy is still on the higher side, the long-term benefits brings down overall cost of ownership significantly as compared to other tools like Tableau/Cognos."
  • "The price was good. We have had great support along the way."
  • "We actually researched some of the other solutions. For options, price, and customer acceptance, this product has worked well for us."
  • "They gave us a good deal."
  • "There have been actual direct bottomline impacts in terms of extra revenue created from the reporting solutions."
  • "They need to work on their license structure. They are not competitive against somebody like SAP BusinessObjects. We had a quote that was almost a third the price, coming from SAP BusinessObjects, and it's not a better platform. It's not cheaper. They do concurrent user licensing, while MicroStrategy does named user licensing, and that was literally the only difference. But it made a $500,000 difference. They've got to do something to make themselves more competitive. Maybe it's assessing your business users and what you really expect them to use, and maybe giving a reduced price on that. But they are already giving us a 60% discount and they were still a million or so above, over a three-year time period. That doesn't account for synergies as we get from on-site resources that are already available, but I thought that that was a big, big deficit for them."

  • "I would recommend looking at your usage and whether the Zoho One license model would work for your organisation. It is very cost effective if you use other Zoho tools."
  • "An exact ROI is hard to calculate. However, we have definitely made sales that would have been much harder, or unlikely, as a result of the speed with which we were able to prepare comprehensive analysis."
  • "I don't feel that price is an issue for this product."
  • "It is very reasonable, and it gives me a good return on investment. Compared to other tools, it is the best choice in terms of pricing."
  • "This solution is reasonable as far as pricing is concerned."
  • "The price is high. The solution advertises that it provides products for 55 AED per user, but these products contain only the basic features. Most of the features are locked. The version of the product that includes Zoho Analytics costs around 199 AED per user per month."
  • "For one license the pricing is about $35 a user."
  • "Zoho Analytics costs $ 4,200 per month, billed yearly."

After a recent presentation, several attendees asked me about the applications of Visual Insights and Tableau. Many companies are investing in both tools and are trying to figure out the right tool for specific applications Tableau has found its sweet-spot as an agile discovery tool that analysts use to create and share insights. It is also the tool of choice for rapid prototyping of dashboards. Tableau is very flexible with its data import. Tableau's data blending capability is very intuitive. This capability is useful when you have data spread across several different sources that has not gone through ETL processes. This is a problem analysts deal with routinely. They are unable to wait for the data warehouse team to develop ETL processes to provide the physical models they need to build an analysis. The Tableau interface is Excel-like and has a low barrier to entry for analysts that are used to working in Excel. Building a dashboard by mashing up visualizations in a Tableau worksheet is extremely simple. Users are able to build good presentation-quality dashboards in a very short amount time. Tableau's annotations capabilities and its time and geographical intelligence are key differentiators. Tableau has overcome limitations in data sharing with the introduction of a Data Server in Tableau 7.0. The Data server allows Data sources and extracts to be shared securely and opens up interesting new possibilities. If your application can take advantage of the above… Read more →
