Offers replication flexibility across multiple environments, including local centers and secondary sites
It offers key features like any point-in-time recovery without needing scheduled snapshots. It allows for automated VM protection during processes like failover and testing, and it offers replication flexibility across multiple environments, including local centers and secondary sites. It also provides IP address management when network configurations differ across sites.

Near-zero downtime has protected critical workloads and now simplifies hybrid cloud recovery
The best features of HPE Zerto Software are mainly very sophisticated and relevant to the current market. The data protection CDP part has real-time replication, unlike other solutions that have snapshot backups. We can set it up hourly, making it ideal for use with workloads. Another attraction is the near-zero RTO, with automated failover within minutes and one-click failover and failback. Currently, we are using a hybrid cloud solution, and HPE Zerto Software supports multi-cloud environments, making it easy to migrate between on-premises and cloud. Regarding the impact of HPE Zerto Software on our RTOs, we have near-zero RTO, meaning the system must be back online within thirty minutes if we measure the time. It is very quick to recover services. With HPE Zerto Software's near-synchronous replication, we have some CDP protection, so we typically write interceptions along with some asynchronous replication. There is almost real-time replication available.

Continuous replication and backup simplify customer service across enterprises of any size
Veeam Data Platform provides me with the most useful features such as application restore, single file restore, backup and replication, and continuous replication. We utilize these features for management and the customers we serve. Veeam Data Platform provides features such as immutability and ransomware protection. While we use other applications for ransomware protection, we rely on Veeam Data Platform for encryption.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It is a very simple tool to use and offers flexibility in using the tool for recovery and transitioning from one state to another."
"One person can do the whole implementation, monitoring, and maintenance of the solution."
"The most valuable features are the data center recovery administration and the time of recovery."
"It is a point-in-time restore, which is quite handy."
"When it comes to disaster recovery, this is one of the best solutions there is for EMC products."
"One of the standout features of Dell RecoverPoint for Virtual Machines is its real-time data protection capability."
"The technical support from Dell is excellent."
"The speed and the footprint the solution uses regarding storage are great."
"The ability to test that my backup regime is actually doing and working as I want it to do is valuable."
"It reduced the backup recovery time of our main backup solution by several hours. It's reduced our time because before we have to build a system and restore the data, we install the application and restore the data that took us at least a good 24 hours to do that. And now it's really minutes for us to recover our backup solution."
"Its ease of use is most valuable. The online documentation is very clear and helpful. We are able to solve a lot of problems on our own without having to contact support."
"One of the features I appreciate the most about the HPE Zerto Software is the simplicity of the replication, which allows the RPO to be in seconds rather than hours, which is what we were used to."
"Zerto is literally the best vendor that we deal with overall as an IT Department."
"The ease of use is one of the most valuable features when it comes to making changes and configuring. It's very easy to set up and configure. It's a great product."
"Four years ago when we did a PoC between two other vendors and Zerto, there were two features of Zerto that sold it, hands-down."
"In situations of failback or moving workloads, it saves us hours. If I were to have to move a four or five terabyte machine using something like VMware's virtual copy it has to install on the machine and copy the data over. Then it has to shut the machine down and do a final copy, which means there's a lot of downtime while it's doing the final copy."
"I am not a direct user of this product, but my technical guys tell me that they like the product, and it is easy to use, and we don't have any issues with it."
"Its most valuable features are seeding and faster backups over small links."
"This solution is very stable and reliable."
"Cloud integration is a good option."
"Veaam ONE is a very good product in virtualized environments."
"This product has significantly reduced our backup windows as backup times have been significantly reduced, as well as the speed at which we can recover systems if needed."
"Strong performance with a high level of compatibility."
"We use it for failover and disaster recovery, and there have been times when our primary systems have failed and we've been able to run virtually until our primary systems are available again, so from a business continuity experience it has worked fairly well."

Cons

"The solution's technical team has enough skills, but the process can get complicated with the time you get connected with the L3 support."
"Although we can change the IP address, it would be good to have some other sort of orchestration to make life easier to manage when we failover."
"I would like to have the HTML 5 interface working because it is currently not functioning with the VMware environment."
"It would be good to have a critical application on the customer side."
"It should have features for recovering a group of virtual machines and full-scale security. For recovering all the VMs at once, they don't have a GUI option, and we have to use the command line."
"I would like to see integration with EMC NetWorker in the next release."
"It can have better integration. It would be good if, in addition to VMware VM, it can also support other hypervisors. I also want to see support for Oracle databases. As of now, it supports only SQL and Exchange. It would be good to also support other databases."
"Their L1 support is not so good as of now. They have recently outsourced to a company, and they are not doing good."
"More user support would be best for me because I'm not in the product all the time. So, having strong support is probably the most important decision on any products that we buy."
"The interface is the only thing that we've ever really had an issue with. It's gone through some revisions; the UI is not clunky, but it's not as streamlined as it could be, and some of the workflow things are not as nice as they could be."
"There could be improvements in support. Here, in Malaysia, there is no on-site support."
"If something happens, and we are out and about, I would like to be able to interface with it on our mobile phones."
"We'd like to be able to migrate data without its operating system or any other functionality and without having to go through a virtual machine or server."
"Some of the features need improvement. One would be, as you're creating a Move group or a VPG, as they call it, it should either autosave or have the ability so that you can save it for coming back to later because if the setup times out, you lose all your work."
"The ease of setup can be improved in the next release of HPE Zerto Software. The initial setup of the DNS environments and backup environment took us time to implement, and if the process was wizard-driven, that would have been really beneficial."
"The replication appliances tend to have issues when they recover from being powered off when a host is in maintenance mode. Sometimes you have to do a manual task where you go in and detach hard disks that are no longer in use, to get the replication appliances to power back on. There are some improvements to be made around the way those recover."
"Compression rates could be improved for moving thousands of machines at a time."
"The initial setup of Veeam Backup Replication is straightforward. The process took approximately two days. The setup could be streamlined to take less time."
"I haven't dived into it to make sure, but I wish the m365 backup would integrate into the current console so that we don't have to use two different consoles."
"It would be ideal if users could know that their data is backed up and have some security functionality where you can actually use the backup to spin up a new cluster and take it from there."
"Even though the speed has improved over the years, I think that there are some instances where it still takes a while."
"Tape support is there, but needs improvement."
"Its reporting feature could be better."
"Sometimes, it's a little difficult for me to use its user interface. Its scope is very big with a lot of tuning, settings, and so on. If it's difficult for me, it must also be difficult for our customers."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It was a part of a backup solution. So, it was free for us."
"This is an expensive product."
"This is not a very cheap solution and compared to others, it is expensive."
"Pricing-wise, it is pretty much fair for any customer who only has a VMware environment. Licensing is based on the number of VMs that you want to protect at any given point in time. Licensing is not based on size."
"There is a license required for this solution and the pricing depends on how many virtual machines you have."
"The tool is expensive. If one means cheaply priced and ten means expensive, I rate the tool's price as a seven."
"I think everything can be cheaper. Pricing limited our ability to use Zerto as much as we'd like, but that's not why we haven't adopted it as our primary backup solution."
"The pricing is straightforward."
"The licensing is a little bit steep, but there is some value that you do get for it as well."
"Its licensing is yearly. You can do multi-year contracts, which is what we did. You pay per VM, and you replicate a license per VM. So, we bought about 20 licenses. We paid somewhere between $5,000 and $10,000. There is an initial upfront cost. Basically, you buy the license, and then you have a maintenance cost on top of that. So, the upfront cost is somewhere between $5,000 to $10,000. The maintenance is $5,000 to $10,000 over a three-year period."
"I'd like to see better tiering for Zerto's pricing. We do multi-tier VMs. I don't think I should be paying a penalty and price for a tier-three VM where I don't need a really tight SLA like I do for a tier-one."
"It is not cheap, but it is reasonable for what it is offering. It gives me the peace of mind that my data is protected. It is worth the cost."
"As far as I know, the pricing is around $1,000 per VM, but Zerto is changing the pricing model to more of an enterprise-class license. I don't know if there are any additional costs or fees."
"Licensing is VM based so you can buy packages or single VM. Price is not low but the power of application is high, so you will get your money back."
"The price of Veeam Backup Replication is reasonable. It is not inexpensive nor is it expensive, it is in the middle range compared to other solutions. There can be additional costs for addons."
"A nice aspect of Veeam's pricing is that the cost benefit is good. It's very economical."
"The solution provides flexible licensing options."
"The pricing is reasonable."
"It is relatively cheap."
"The price of the solution could be lower."
"The pricing structure for Veeam ONE has changed to what is now called the "VUL" or "Universal License". Previously, people mainly used socket licenses, but this has now changed. The new pricing structure was introduced last year."
"The price of Veeam is much lower than the IBM solution."
