Ease of backup and restore improves data management with reliable support
The interface of BDRSuite Backup & Replication is pretty intuitive. Regarding their marketing strategy, I'm very bad at marketing. I always get a little edgy when people try to shove their product in my face. There are two sides to the story. If you don't know something exists, you might not even start to look for it unless you really know that you need it. If you are explicitly looking for a solution, then you'll find it. People that don't know that they should do backup don't have a place in IT. I rate BDRSuite Backup & Replication 8.5 out of 10.

Offers replication flexibility across multiple environments, including local centers and secondary sites
It offers key features like any point-in-time recovery without needing scheduled snapshots. It allows for automated VM protection during processes like failover and testing, and it offers replication flexibility across multiple environments, including local centers and secondary sites. It also provides IP address management when network configurations differ across sites.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We have seen ROI with Vembu. The solution is worth it based on the few times that we used it for recovery."
"The features I find most valuable are ease of backup, ease of restore, the full restore, just getting some data out of a backup server or even the applications that are in the server, going through the database or going to Exchange."
"I get my backups done."
"The backup is constant so it makes things simpler for me; to put it simply, it just works."
"The tech support is phenomenal."
"The network solution is the most important feature, because we have our own backup server and are doing file backups for our customers."
"I like the fact that BDRSuite can connect to VMware ESXi and automatically pull the virtual machines that I have in that environment. I also like that you can choose to back up the compute to the backup server or go straight to the cloud."
"The compression, encryption and deduplication features are fabulous and great stuff."
"Point-in-time recovery and ease of deployment are valuable."
"It is a point-in-time restore, which is quite handy."
"One person can do the whole implementation, monitoring, and maintenance of the solution."
"I use RecoverPoint for VM for my production-critical system because it gives you general electives for the journals and the point-in-time recovery."
"The solution is quite stable. We haven't experienced any kind of bug or glitch. We haven't experienced crashes."
"RecoverPoint replicates workloads fast."
"The most valuable features are the data center recovery administration and the time of recovery."
"The generalization of the journals allows us to go back in time and choose the snapshot suitable for us. We can grab it as needed."

Cons

"They said they can support Red Hat Virtualization and we assumed that they support any compatible system but we found we need to do a network backup or a network image, which is not what it said on their website. I have had many discussions with them about where this component is. Initially, I was searching for a component which would back up Red Hat Virtualization. They said they support this in the same way they support Hyper-V and VMware. I haven't found the feature in their portal or in any of their software. They haven't made a special agent for it, in the way they did for Hyper-V."
"They require it to connect to the internet and connect with Vembu for it to continue to function; if the internet is down or if the server can't reach the internet, it stops working after a few days, and to me, that’s a terrible design."
"We have not been able to move our backups from one drive to another one."
"The process is a bit cumbersome when you remove an agent, delete that job, and add the agent to the same server. Even though the agent is already installed in that server, the system does not recognize it. We have to uninstall the current agent, restart the server, install the push agent - a new agent - and then restart the server. I think they should try to avoid that."
"I don't know if it exists, but it would be helpful to get email notifications when there are issues with the backup. I'm sure it probably exists, but I just don't know how to do it. They also have an Azure proxy feature where you can restore to Azure. It's not really well documented. I think they should document how to do that a little better."
"It would be a great improvement if they can give a console to control the systems. All other vendors let you simply log in to the cloud console and control everything from there, but for Vembu, whether you choose Vembu Cloud Backup or Vembu Disaster Recovery, you still need to install the Vembu software on your on-premise system and configure it from there. It would be great if I can get a cloud console to manage the systems."
"BDRSuite could improve support for XenApp Citrix Backup."
"I have had issues with new client registrations. There are frequent connectivity issues to the cloud servers. Multiple times, I have had to prove to support that it wasn’t a problem on my end. It always works out in the end, but it is troubling to have the same issues repeated across different clients. Issues eventually get escalated to the cloud team and are mysteriously resolved with no changes on my end."
"I would like to see integration with EMC NetWorker in the next release."
"There is a problem with the solution's architecture. First of all, it requires double the resources on the virtual environment to set up one environment."
"It would be good to have a critical application on the customer side."
"The solution is not easy to use. It's actually quite hard. If it could be simplified it might be better for the end user."
"It should have features for recovering a group of virtual machines and full-scale security. For recovering all the VMs at once, they don't have a GUI option, and we have to use the command line."
"It can have better integration. It would be good if, in addition to VMware VM, it can also support other hypervisors. I also want to see support for Oracle databases. As of now, it supports only SQL and Exchange. It would be good to also support other databases."
"The configuration process seems a bit challenging, and the installation takes a bit longer than expected."
"The solution could improve by being more easier to use. Additionally, there could be better support and compatibility with management by having a command-line interface."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The best thing about the product is the license management. It is a true managed service provider solution. It has a good price. The licensing is quite flexible, which is one of the most important things for us."
"BDRSuite, although cost-efficient, is more expensive than most other providers."
"Its price is reasonable as compared to other solutions. There are no additional costs. While increasing the count on the server-side, we have to take care of managing or optimizing the license."
"It has actually benefited my operation a fair bit. VMware requires a special hardware while Hyper-V runs on pretty much anything. It doesn't require any special hardware, so it saves a bit of money. Because Vembu does Hyper-V backup, there is no limit on how many VMs you can have. The newer version has a 100 VM limit on the single license, which has been greatly beneficial, because on one host a 100 VMs is a fair bit."
"I think it is a good value for the price."
"It's very affordable. We are very satisfied with the cost. It's very affordable for us."
"It helps us deliver an enterprise-level data protection solution and reduce budgets at a price that - and we don't want to encourage them to change their pricing - is a great value."
"The product's pricing is of good value. It was much more affordable than the alternative solution to it, which was Veeam. That would be the closest competitor, and between those two, Vembu was much more affordable. It seemed reasonable for what we needed to do."
"There is a license required for this solution and the pricing depends on how many virtual machines you have."
"Pricing-wise, it is pretty much fair for any customer who only has a VMware environment. Licensing is based on the number of VMs that you want to protect at any given point in time. Licensing is not based on size."
"This is not a very cheap solution and compared to others, it is expensive."
"This is an expensive product."
"It was a part of a backup solution. So, it was free for us."
"The tool is expensive. If one means cheaply priced and ten means expensive, I rate the tool's price as a seven."
