Reliable image backups have protected our HMIs and simplified on‑premises recovery
We have not tried the vulnerability assessment feature yet because we have a different set of protocols for our cybersecurity. We conduct audits and plug the gaps as part of our security approach. We are not using AI with the anti-malware from Acronis; we are using it only for backup and recovery. On the backup and restoration side with Acronis Backup, some on-premises AI features which can detect anomalies may be something which would improve the product significantly. Otherwise, we are not very comfortable with cloud-based solutions at this time. We are looking for products which are entirely on-premises, so they remain within our control.

Functional application availability
There are not many options available for AIX backup. They provide the agent for AIX, but it could be more mature, and they should improve that option. They also provide the AIX agent, which is similar to the Windows and Linux agents. Since we use AIX machines, we need to take backups of those machines. However, the options available in that agent are limited. Therefore, the new version should have improvements in that area.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The user interface (UI) is easy to use."
"The most valuable feature is the extra protection, especially for the backup."
"The most valuable feature is that you can do a bare-metal restore even with dissimilar hardware."
"From my perspective, the most valuable features in Acronis Cyber Protect include ransomware protection and antivirus. These features not only add significant value but also play a crucial role in closing deals. When selling backup for Microsoft 365, these security features, like ransomware protection and antivirus, serve as a starting point to offer backup and protection."
"Consistency and reliability. The interface is easy to understand and consistent across applications. While not 100%, it is a very reliable backup solution."
"The most valuable features of Acronis Backup are instant restore, antivirus, and ransomware protection. Additionally, the documentation is good."
"Stability is always good. I have used Acronis for 10 years now, if not more. I have never had a problem with availability, etc."
"It has simple buying options and deployments. You can buy on-cloud, on-premises, or hybrid solutions. Acronis Backup is very easy to deploy. It also does not consume much hardware. The administrator's tasks are very simple. It is very user friendly, and it also has good security features with low-level encryption and data encryption."
"The most valuable feature is the ability to navigate inside a backup point to look for a specific folder or data you want to recover."
"Application awareness is very good and the speed of this solution is good."
"Veeam is very user-friendly and intuitive software."
"It is easy to deploy."
"User-friendly data backup and protection solution for a Windows environment. The Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows is very scalable, stable, and has good compatibility and integration."
"This is a good product with a simple environment."
"We found the initial setup to be quite simple."
"It is good and easy to use for backing up physical servers. It is working fine, and it is stable and scalable."

Cons

"The new version has anti-malware and software management features, but these features should be enhanced. It is working as an exclusive solution along with the backup and recovery."
"I've had some issues with the understandability of the interface. I think if they had someone with expertise in user interfaces to look at this, they could clean up the user interface."
"The initial setup was complex. We had to deploy it through an external consultant team."
"The support and documentation must be improved."
"I would like to have more hardware space. It would make it better. I would like to have two more terabytes."
"Acronis Backup can improve on the virtualization backups because they are not as good as Veeam Backup."
"I can't select a network location. I have to map a drive on the server, and then I have to select the mapped drive in order for it to put the backup out there."
"The reporting can be improved."
"A lower price would always be beneficial."
"A feature I would like to see is universal restore. At the moment, restoration can only be smooth on the same hardware. Let's say you have a server and you back it up with Veeam Agent, in case it fails or crashes. If you later buy a new server because the same one isn't available on the market anymore, there's a high chance that Windows will not boot up if you restore from the Veeam backup because the hardware is now different. Acronis has the universal restore feature, so it will work with generic drivers and you can restore Windows in any dissimilar hardware. As far as I know, Veeam doesn't have this feature yet."
"The backups can go slow."
"The predictability of the solution needs improvement. Sometimes, if it's doing something at the back end, it may go slow. Today, the backup completion took four hours, but sometimes it can do the backup in 30 minutes or an hour. With solutions like NetBackup, I can predict to a much higher degree of certainty how long something will take to complete."
"There really are no cons. The product simply has to maintain development to keep up with changes in the operating system."
"The price of Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows could improve."
"Some customers have Oracle databases and Veeam does support back up of Oracle databases."
"Maybe in the future, they could do something better with the user interface and the performance, but so far it's a really good, efficient solution."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price of the solution is expensive and could be reduced a little."
"The price is reasonable."
"There is a license required to use this solution and it is inexpensive. However, it is an old license."
"The price of the solution is reasonable."
"The tool's subscription costs are monthly. The product's pricing is fair."
"I find the pricing structure satisfactory, it is around $25 per year."
"The pricing is significantly higher than it was last year, which is understandable since they have introduced new technology, such as transitioning from backup to cybersecurity."
"This is an affordable product and fits within our customers' budgets."
"The solution is inexpensive, more so than other products."
"There are costs in addition to the standard licensing fees, and pricing can be a disadvantage or a weakness for this solution."
"We have the Community Edition and I believe we bought a license for 200 instances. Veeam Agent is mainly used for our branch offices. Those only have one or two Hyper-V servers, so it's covered with the Community Edition. Basically, it's free. I remember Veeam 7.0 or 8.0 wasn't free, but the Community Edition is."
"We have an annual license."
"Pricing is based on license packaging and duration. Longer term licenses are less per year and license packages also offer a discount."
"We purchased a three-year license, and I think that the prices are ok."
"We are on an annual license to use Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows. There are not any additional fees to use the solution."
"For the licensing of Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows, the customer can choose to pay monthly or yearly. It's up to the customer."
