Reliable image backups have protected our HMIs and simplified on‑premises recovery
We have not tried the vulnerability assessment feature yet because we have a different set of protocols for our cybersecurity. We conduct audits and plug the gaps as part of our security approach. We are not using AI with the anti-malware from Acronis; we are using it only for backup and recovery. On the backup and restoration side with Acronis Backup, some on-premises AI features which can detect anomalies may be something which would improve the product significantly. Otherwise, we are not very comfortable with cloud-based solutions at this time. We are looking for products which are entirely on-premises, so they remain within our control.

Functional application availability
There are not many options available for AIX backup. They provide the agent for AIX, but it could be more mature, and they should improve that option. They also provide the AIX agent, which is similar to the Windows and Linux agents. Since we use AIX machines, we need to take backups of those machines. However, the options available in that agent are limited. Therefore, the new version should have improvements in that area.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"For local backups, it has options to back up almost any storage. The back can be either a shared folder or anything you want, it's pretty flexible."
"The most valuable feature is the quick restoration. We can restore the data quickly."
"It works with different types of partitions or different OSs."
"The setup is very easy."
"This is a perfect option for an SMB."
"The web-based interface makes it easy to use."
"I've reimaged servers and been back up and running in exactly no time with the completely new hardware."
"The backup timing and restoring process is great compared to other options."
"It is a stable solution."
"Veeam is very useful for the Hyper-V environment."
"The Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows is easy to use and performing a recovery is easy to do."
"User-friendly data backup and protection solution for a Windows environment. The Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows is very scalable, stable, and has good compatibility and integration."
"Solution provides good security."
"It is a stable solution."
"The product is free to use. We don't have to pay for a license."
"Technical support is good. They're very responsive. It depends on the timezone responding, but I usually get a response within three hours of creating a ticket."

Cons

"The support takes too much time to respond to callbacks."
"I would change the GUI a little to make it a bit more interactive. It should have a slightly more updated look, not something which looks like it was designed five years ago despite the fact it is easy to follow and very appealing."
"The solution's reporting feature could be better."
"I have no suggestions for improvements as I have only used the product for a month and have yet to really discover all of its aspects."
"The cost of Acronis Cyber Protect is good, but as a general judgment here in Egypt, the economic situation is not good. If they can provide a waiver or discount for low-income countries, it would help to spread adoption."
"The solution could use a single sign-on integration that can default to the admin dashboard. Right now, it's only username and password. If you had had an additional two-factor authentication, this would be beneficial for me."
"The solution's error handling can be improved specifically for Linux errors."
"I can't select a network location. I have to map a drive on the server, and then I have to select the mapped drive in order for it to put the backup out there."
"The solution lacks instant recovery."
"The solution's compression ratio and high speed for backing up can always improve. Aspects that need improvement are less time, better quality, higher security, and more compression. These are continuous requirements for any customer."
"There should be an option to use the solution for physical machines."
"With the currency exchange, the solution ends up being quite expensive."
"If they could let you can do replication to physical servers - a backup from physical servers and a replication to physical servers - that will be better."
"The stability of this solution needs to be improved."
"I can't think of anything that may be missing."
"I would like to have a more automated installation process."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is a low-cost solution."
"There is a license required to use this solution and it is inexpensive. However, it is an old license."
"There are monthly fees to use Acronis Backup."
"The price of Acronis Backup could be reduced, it is expensive."
"Acronis Backup is cheaper. If you install it on a hypervisor, you only pay for a single license. It would be for the backup server, and everything else will be covered by it. In that sense, it becomes a much cheaper option. However, if you have virtual machines, then it can be more expensive. Also, if you have a lot of physical machines the cost can be higher because each entity will need a separate license. There is a monthly license cost."
"I would rate the solution’s pricing an eight out of ten. The tool’s subscription is yearly."
"Our licenses come with a one-time yearly subscription fee."
"I think that the prices of the product go up every year. If one is extremely expensive and ten is absolutely cheap, I rate the product price as six."
"We have a license package."
"We have the Community Edition and I believe we bought a license for 200 instances. Veeam Agent is mainly used for our branch offices. Those only have one or two Hyper-V servers, so it's covered with the Community Edition. Basically, it's free. I remember Veeam 7.0 or 8.0 wasn't free, but the Community Edition is."
"The solution is inexpensive, more so than other products."
"We have a cloud provider agreement with Veeam. We are also paying for the agent."
"For the licensing of Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows, the customer can choose to pay monthly or yearly. It's up to the customer."
"We have an annual license."
"We are on an annual license to use Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows. There are not any additional fees to use the solution."
"The pricing model is based on CPU and must be declared as Microsoft or VMware licensing."
