Good training and support, and it allows for bare-metal restore to dissimilar hardware
They do a lot of maintenance. In the span of six months, maintenance is done at least twice and you are told that it is coming up, with apologies for the inconvenience. It's a distraction, and it interferes with the backup schedule. Also, it can happen at a time where some critical systems are required to recover. I would like documentation or a video demonstration on how to restore active databases. At this point, it can restore pictures and common files, but we want to be able to support all kinds of customers so backing up and restoring active databases are important.

Robust backup and recovery capabilities with great features
Commvault Cloud, while offering a robust suite of features, could potentially benefit from improvements in certain areas. One area for consideration is user interface and user experience enhancements, aiming to streamline navigation and make the platform more intuitive for users with varying levels of technical expertise. Improved documentation and user training resources could also contribute to a smoother onboarding process and more effective utilization of the platform's capabilities. Additionally, ongoing efforts to optimize resource utilization and minimize any potential impact on system performance would be valuable. As for potential features in the next release, integration with emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence for more intelligent data management and analytics could provide valuable insights for organizations. Enhanced automation capabilities, including more sophisticated policy-driven automation for data workflows, could further streamline processes and reduce manual intervention. Integration with additional cloud services and platforms, keeping pace with the evolving cloud landscape, would broaden the platform's compatibility and usefulness. Lastly, advanced security features, including continuous monitoring, threat intelligence integration, and proactive threat response capabilities, would fortify the product's defense against evolving cyber threats. Regular feedback mechanisms from users and staying attuned to industry trends would help guide the development of features that align closely with the evolving needs of organizations in the dynamic landscape of data management and cloud services.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Acronis has many features, which are really very interesting, when it comes to data backup and recovery, especially disaster recovery (DR)."
"The most valuable features of Acronis Backup are instant restore, antivirus, and ransomware protection. Additionally, the documentation is good."
"Acronis Backup is easy to use."
"There is advanced management where we can do passing, software inventory, and hardware inventory."
"Acronis Backup is valuable if your data is affected by ransomware, you are able to get it back."
"Universal Restore is valuable to us."
"I would definitely say the backup and recovery. It used to be a separate module. It was a recovery part and it would literally duplicate the machine to bare bones."
"It's always stable. It's very good, useful, and user-friendly."
"The features I find most helpful in Commvault are its ability to perform incremental backups and significantly reduce backup times for our diverse multi-architecture, multi-environment environment."
"The solution has the fastest backup and better licensing."
"The return points are very valuable."
"It is a scalable solution."
"It's very stable."
"One-Pass (Archive) DataBase backup (Online Backup and Granular level restore), VM backup and restore."
"We have multiple workloads, including SQL, Oracle, SAP HANA, especially Sybase, as well as file systems, VMs, and Exchange mailboxes. Commvault provides very good support for them."
"It's very user-friendly. It supports a wide range of workloads. It's quite easy to use, it's very powerful and it's scalable."

Cons

"Currently, there is no option to use the tape drives again as a backup repository for the cloud deployment."
"I would change the GUI a little to make it a bit more interactive. It should have a slightly more updated look, not something which looks like it was designed five years ago despite the fact it is easy to follow and very appealing."
"The UI performance can be slow at times, especially when handling operations like checking backup status or initiating a restore. The response time for these actions could be improved."
"For smaller companies it's a little more challenging to maintain."
"On the cloud side, security could always be better."
"There are some limitations to the backup."
"One improvement that could be made is adding the option to download files in a PST format when doing a 365 or Google Cloud to cloud backup."
"Improved support for immutability and Utility AirGAP could be beneficial."
"The new HTML5-based management portals are very nice, but do not yet have all of the features of the Java-based client."
"It would be nice to have just one email report come in, then we can filter out failures. If everything is backed up, we really don't need to see the report. If it is in a single report. A simpler customised report would be good."
"Commvault could benefit from increased automation to streamline processes and enhance predictability."
"I would like more communication informing us on what Commvault is doing in the background."
"It is a little more complicated than it really needs to be."
"This product is overly complex to operate and run."
"The initial setup was complicated."
"They should move the CommServe outside of Windows machines and the database should be distributed among servers. It's still a single point of failure."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Our licenses come with a one-time yearly subscription fee."
"There are monthly fees to use Acronis Backup."
"The price is reasonable."
"I would rate the solution’s pricing an eight out of ten. The tool’s subscription is yearly."
"We were on a perpetual license for Acronis Backup."
"The tool is cheap compared to other products."
"I think that the prices of the product go up every year. If one is extremely expensive and ten is absolutely cheap, I rate the product price as six."
"The price of the solution is expensive and could be reduced a little."
"It is cheaper than NetBackup, but its price can be lower. If a good solution can be cheaper, it is always an advantage. Its licensing is on a yearly basis."
"The solution is expensive. The subscription is based on a monthly basis. There are additional costs that vary depending on the size of the backup."
"The price is a little bit high."
"The tool is affordable."
"I looked at this at the beginning of the year and I don't remember what the prices were for all the other services, but I thought that Metallic's was fair. It was also highly rated, which was even more important than cost because I need a reliable, secure, backup method."
"The pricing has improved. It is simplified compared to the way that it was a few years ago. It is fairly straightforward and pretty easy to articulate to customers, which is handy."
"Its cost is reasonable."
"I rate the product’s pricing a seven out of ten."
