Our primary use case for Arcserve UDP is its decompression feature, which helped us save money by reducing storage needs. Despite moving to cloud applications, we have been using Arcserve UDP for backup and disaster recovery.

Arcserve UDP has helped our organization save considerable amounts of money by reducing the need for additional server storage. The decompression feature allowed us to store more data without requiring a new server. Additionally, the disaster recovery capabilities of the tool enabled us to restore operations quickly during incidents.

I build projects with Arcserve UDP and other security products from the company. I work with firewalls, network security, single sign-on, etcetera.

Mostly my clients – we have the solution internally too, but my position in the company focuses on those clients that use Arcserve. My experience has been a mixed bag. 

The interface is very refined, works fine, and is very intuitive most of the time. Scalability is nice. The multi-tenancy feature is very welcome. The integration with Linux works fine too. 

Overall, the tool itself is fine – the problem is just reliability. If the promises in the marketing material were realized in real life, it would be the perfect solution, but it's just the reliability issues.

Our customers use the solution for online backup, recovery, and replication. We have deployed the solution for around 20 customers.

Our customers find the recovery in minutes useful. Arcserve has a functionality where we can execute a recovery in five minutes. Once the primary server crashes, we can start the virtual server in booting time. They also like replication to off-site and booting the server on the DR site.

The customers are happy and have been using the solution for over three to four years. The solution has no limitations because it does backup for Linux and Windows. The customers have not complained to us about any functionality.

The solution is used as an on-premises infrastructure backup solution, so we can take the backups of the servers, storage servers, file servers and endpoints, and the virtualization layer.

Global deduplication is the best feature of this solution. The solution is also open for the BMR recovery for any point of failure with bare-metal hardware, like any other OEM, we can restore all the data.

We use Arcserve UDP for backup recovery and replication with HA (High Availability) and DR (Disaster Recovery).

Instant recovery is the most valuable feature of Arcserve UDP. When one machine is down, the instant recovery feature allows us to start it within a minute. Taking a backup in Arcserve UDP requires a basic, simple configuration.

My company operates as a solution provider, meaning we don't use the product for ourselves, and we deal with it mostly for our clients.

The best feature of the product stems from the fact that it is an overall good product that can help with backup and recovery. The tool helps deal with recovering data from a physical to a virtual machine and vice versa. The recovery part of the product is very good.

My company deals with the product's use case, which is attached to one of our customers to whom I presented Arcserve UDP since they were using more than three backup solutions at the same time. A big challenge with a lot of data was the reason for the need to have some kind of deduplication, which is available within Arcserve UDP. With the use of the functionality provided by the product, my company resolved our customers' issues.

The problem with Arcserve UDP stems from some green lights in the backups. The problem was the green light in the backup part, and when you tried to restore some data, the green light was showing up, but the restoration couldn't be done. With the problems in the green light, which is affiliated with the backup part of the solution, users can't be sure if they can take care of the restoration part, making it one of the areas where improvements are required.

I want the security features and the stability of the product to be improved.

The support could be more knowledgeable and faster.

Most of the use cases associated with Arcserve UDP are related to virtual machine backup, for which we use it sometimes, though it is not the fastest one. Arcserve UDP is mostly used as a backup in SAP HANA. Even now, since Arcserve can't trigger the backup from the console, we decided to replace it with Commvault in our company. Still, in our company, we use Arcserve UDP for a few customers for virtual machine backup, as it works perfectly fine with no issues.

The best feature of the product is its simple environment, making it simple for users to take care of the configuration part. In our company, though we have found a few issues with Arcserve UDP, most of them crop up from the lack of features provided in the solution.
