| Author info | Rating | Review Summary |
|---|---|---|
| Helpdesk Internal Systems Manager at Active IT Systems | 5.0 | As an MSP, I provide TitanHQ SpamTitan for email security, valuing its low maintenance and effective threat intelligence. While the user interface was recently modernized, I suggest user role differentiation. Compared to Mimecast, SpamTitan is more reliable. |
| IT Head at Dee Development | 4.5 | We use SpamTitan for email security due to its easy-to-learn and customizable features, offering strong threat intelligence. However, the current GUI is difficult to use, and settings are underdeveloped, making us prefer the older interface. |
| Managing Partner at Cabinet Avocat Pusa Alexandru Catalin | 3.5 | I found SpamTitan's anti-spam and antivirus features basic, with more spam and false positives compared to OnlyMyEmail, which I previously used. While it filters some spam, I could achieve similar results using free, updated Bayesian filters. |
| President at Powerhouse Systems MSP & MSSP | 5.0 | We use SpamTitan to filter emails in the cloud efficiently. Its features, like domain blocking and geo-blocking, enhance security. While usability improvements are needed, it's effective and affordable, with low ROI due to time savings. |
| Director of Network Services at M2 Systems Corporation | 5.0 | SpamTitan effectively filters spam for our 16 email boxes, reducing unwanted emails similar to Barracuda. Despite initial setup challenges, especially with domain spoofing, its cost-effectiveness and minimal integration effort make it a worthwhile alternative to pricier solutions. |
| Infra manager at a tech services company with 51-200 employees | 4.0 | As an MSP hosting mail servers, we value SpamTitan's comprehensive security features, including anti-phishing and dual antivirus engines. Despite some transparency issues regarding updates, its reliability has significantly improved our client base compared to previous solutions. |
| CTO at Genie Support | 5.0 | As a support service provider, we utilize SpamTitan for its effective spam filtering and fine-tuning capabilities, though it lacks robust reporting. Despite trying alternatives like Cisco IronPort, SpamTitan remains easy to use and provides a good ROI. |
| Chief Technology Starategist at Code Vapor LLC | 4.5 | I'm a managed service provider owner who chose SpamTitan for its ease of integration with Office 365 and Active Directory. It sends daily reports showing blocked emails that can be released, though more frequent notifications would be beneficial. |
| IT Director at a healthcare company with 11-50 employees | 4.5 | We utilize SpamTitan as a gateway antivirus for spam protection on our Exchange Server. Its anti-spam and content filtering features have improved efficiency, saved administrative time, and are cost-effective. However, the interface could be updated, and multi-domain flexibility would be beneficial. |
| Directory of IT at a manufacturing company with 51-200 employees | 4.5 | I use SpamTitan in front of Office 365 for added email security. Its intuitive quarantine feature and effective filtering are valuable, though more frequent reporting and an Outlook plugin would enhance its utility. The investment saves significant time and effort. |

We are an MSP, so we provide TitanHQ SpamTitan to our customers. It is primarily used for email security.
The most valuable features of TitanHQ SpamTitan are how effective it is and how little maintenance it requires. It just does its job, and I never have to fix it. The threat intelligence capabilities are also useful, allowing me to drill down as much as needed. It works perfectly for email security without any issues.
If you had asked me a few weeks ago, I would have said the user interface needed improvement, but we've just updated it. It looks really modern now, and it's a lot easier to use. At the moment, I don't have anything specific for improvement. Additionally, I would suggest different roles for users. We want the ability to lock down certain functions for certain user roles to prevent accidental changes, such as an apprentice accidentally deleting a customer.
I have been working with TitanHQ SpamTitan for about six years. It has been quite a while.
TitanHQ SpamTitan's stability is impeccable. It's the only product I've known that has never broken down. It has never stopped working even once during all the time I've used it.
The scalability of TitanHQ SpamTitan is excellent.
The initial setup is very simple.
The pricing model is reasonable money for the product. It is rated highly because of its affordability and its great value.
The main competitor for TitanHQ SpamTitan is Mimecast. TitanHQ SpamTitan is more preferable because it simply works without issues.
Overall, my final rating for TitanHQ SpamTitan is ten. I definitely recommend it to other users.
We use SpamTitan for email security.
SpamTitan has helped us maintain a zero threat level, which is fantastic. The system also assists us in managing email effectively, eliminating spam and ensuring that our communications are secure. Since implementing SpamTitan, our organization's email-related concerns have significantly diminished.
SpamTitan is extremely easy to learn and use. It is highly customizable, allowing us to filter emails based on specific criteria like file type and MIME type. The threat intelligence capabilities of SpamTitan have also been beneficial, providing excellent security for our emails.
The GUI is problematic. It's a mess and absolute rubbish now. We also face issues with the settings that are not yet developed. I wish for a return to the older GUI which was easier to use.
We have been using SpamTitan for over a year now. Before that, we evaluated it alongside Fortigate.
Customer support is very good. They respond quickly, and when issues arise due to the new engine, they handle them swiftly. They realize some options aren't visible to us due to GUI issues, so they step in to assist.
Positive
We previously used Sophos Intercept X for servers and noticed some malware activities. Post installation of Palo Alto's POC on a few servers, we've begun transitioning from Sophos to other solutions for the server level.
Initial setup was straightforward; it was very easy, a cakewalk.
Pricing is affordable. We renewed for three years, and the cost is reasonable.
We evaluated SentinelOne, Microsoft, CrowdStrike, and Palo Alto as alternatives for server-level antivirus solutions.
I would recommend TitanHQ for its price and ease of use. That said, be cautious of overhyping AI capabilities, which often fall short of true autonomy and intelligence generation.
I'd rate the solution nine out of ten.

SpamTitan has an anti-spam solution, but it's basic and doesn't work all the time. It also has an antivirus feature, which is similarly basic. It doesn't offer anything exceptional. It offers only the basics.
OnlyMyEmail was far superior. I'm not sure who acquired their technology when they went bankrupt.
It filters some of the spam.
SpamTitan advertises anti-spam, anti-phishing, and anti-spear phishing, but it's mostly marketing. They really only do basic anti-spam, nothing more.
It's less secure with a lot more spam and false positives than my previous product, OnlyMyEmail.
So, there's room for improvement with SpamTitan. It filters some of the spam. But honestly, I could get 90% of the same results by updating my Bayesian filters on my server, which are free.
I used it for two and a half years.
I contacted support only when it came time to renew and collect payment.
contacted them once or twice, if I remember correctly. I just know they're quick when they need your money.
I was previously a satisfied customer of OnlyMyEmail. Unfortunately, they had a significant technical failure and couldn't provide security for a week, causing them to lose their biggest client. That's when I switched to Bitdefender for email security.
I used Bitdefender. But it didn't meet my needs. I used it for two years. Its technology was far inferior to OnlyMyEmail. I also looked into Censornet. However, I eventually obtained a server license for SpamTitan.
Currently, I am one of the slightly happy. customer of SpamTitan. It works when it wants to, it doesn't want, it doesn't work.
The main difference between SpamTitan and OnlyMyEmail was accuracy. I never saw false positives with OnlyMyEmail in the ten years I used it. It just worked as it should, and at a very low price. I'm not sure what technology they used, but it was excellent.
I was paying around one dollar and something cents per email address per month.
It's a server license, so someone else installed it for me. As for SpamTitan's interface, it looks like Windows 95 – very outdated. It has basic functionality, just like the service. They have great marketing, but they only deliver the basics.
So, there's room for improvement across the board.
I have my own email server. SpamTitan is installed on a separate server in Frankfurt. It handles the spam filtering and security, then emails are delivered to the server I have on-premises in Romania.
I also have a firewall with basic spam filtering and ESET antivirus, which also has an anti-spam feature. They function independently. Surprisingly, some spam that gets through SpamTitan is picked up by my ESET antivirus.
The technician who installed it is my friend, and he never mentioned it being difficult.
It was up and running within a day or two.
It's more expensive than my old solution, OnlyMyEmail. That's surprising because SpamTitan requires a minimum of 50 user licenses. As a small customer, I only need about 25 real users.
With OnlyMyEmail, I had a perfect solution at a cheaper price. I'd gladly pay more than I do for SpamTitan if it meant having the same reliable functionality that worked 100% of the time.
I pay $650 per year for 50 licenses.
If there's something better, I'd gladly switch. Unfortunately, I haven't researched alternatives in the past three years, so I don't know if anything significantly better exists.
Overall, I would rate the solution a seven out of ten.

We utilize the solution to send all our email to their cloud to filter it.
The biggest benefit of being a partner of TitanHQ is being able to offer their products across the board, whether the client is a small company with five people, or a growing or midsize company, and it even works for some large companies. WebTitan even comes with an on-prem DNS proxy, so you can also proxy all your information. You can also dictate who has access, who gets filtered, and who doesn't get filtered. For us, it's quite easy to sell it because it's not overly complicated and it doesn't require lots of modules.
With SpamTitan there are large savings for IT because they are not bombarded with phishing emails and thousands of spam emails, bad URLs, and bad domain names. The filtering technology helps safeguard their environment and, by the same token, it actually frees up time for folks to do some work that is native to their environment and not waste time.
It helps employees save time, as well, because they're getting the emails that they expect. It could be saving them 90 minutes a day, on average, and maybe more, if people have some training. If we're talking about IT folks who earn in the range of $90,000 to well over $100,000, 90 minutes times 10 guys could be over $1,000 a day in savings. It adds up fast.
If you're dealing with email threats, users will not use their email if they think they have been attacked, so they won't be working. The IT guys that handle tickets are then tied up and have to manage the tickets. A ticket goes up the chain to the correct group and they have to analyze it and decide whether it's something they can do or if it goes further up. If they can't handle it, it's going to go up to cyber security. We're talking about four or five people that have touched it, each spending 10 or 15 minutes. Multiply that by X dollars and it adds up. They have to get in touch with the user, check the unit, and they might have to take that person offline. And maybe the person who makes a lot of money a year is tied up for an hour. Before you know it, you're $1,500 in the hole, just for one phishing email, because you don't want it spreading, and you don't want the person on the network. It's a snowball effect. One wrong click and you could be in trouble really fast.
The system analyzes and catalogs what's good and what's bad. The cool thing about SpamTitan is that it saves a report on what it did not allow to hit your inbox. You can then easily block those domains, which is helpful because people will use different names before the "@" symbol in an email address. By blocking the whole domain, no matter what they do, they can't send you any email via that domain.
It's pretty straightforward and pretty easy to use. It's mostly automated and that makes it easy for an IT department to keep tabs on it.
The key differentiators of the product for an MSP are its ease of use and effectiveness. It generates reports and makes things easy for IT to manage. It's a set-it-and-forget-it type of solution. It gives you one pane of glass. There are two different cloud URLs but you just create a shortcut on your desktop and IT people can jump in and out of it in seconds.
We also use the geo-blocking feature a lot for clients that don't have interests outside the US. If they receive stuff from overseas where they don't have a relationship, we can turn off that flow. In the future, if they start working with, say, a Chinese company, it can be turned back on. It makes it convenient for dictating how an organization deals with the outside world on an everyday basis. As soon as we turn it on, we notice a massive increase in protection, in terms of the number of emails being caught.
We can watch the results almost in real time. It has a pretty consistent synchronization with email clients, whether it's O365 or a web-type email. You can still dictate what comes in. If you don't like Gmail accounts or random Yahoo account emails, you can filter them out. Bad people use any trick they can get their hands on, including fake company names that have one extra letter. Or they will say an email is from the president, or it is an alert. They use scare tactics to get you to open and click on things.
The geo-blocking ability is really important because a lot of outside threats are coming from other governments. There's a lot going on, like espionage, hacking, and the stealing of data and trade secrets. Companies are ruthless, so it's a free-for-all on the web if you don't have a solid front door for protection and your walls are made out of "paper." You need steel walls now and multiple layers just to keep things at bay.
SpamTitan's internal technology definitely does a great job analyzing where something is coming from and analyzing the technical side of the data. If something was redirected, it can detect the origin and track down where the server it came from is. Even if the IP range changes, it can let you know where the origin was. It's pretty good at doing its job.
In terms of geo-blocking exceptions, I have bought products from the UK, and their updates and download packages all come from outside the US. I can instruct it so that the UK, specifically, is open. I can also allow just that particular UK domain and if I see unwanted UK addresses, I can add them to the blocked domain-name section. That way, I can have something open and still block others at the same time.
With the geo-blocking tool, it would be nice if it listed checkboxes for all the countries and had one overall checkbox for the whole area. Right now, you have to start typing them all in, or half type them, to get the list. That's time-consuming and is one thing I don't like.
Also, it would be nice to know when the DNS proxy version needs to be updated. They should send out the customer's version number, and why it needs to be upgraded, a month or two before it's necessary. That would be helpful so we don't find ourselves wondering why the DNS proxy we have right now just randomly stopped updating, when it's because a new version came out.
Their room for improvement is minuscule. It's more end-user or IT types of fixes, rather than functionality. The functionality is great. It's just that the ease of use could be improved for someone who didn't know you have to type things in. It should be easier for a junior IT guy to get in there without having to say, "How do I do this?"
We've been using SpamTitan for about four years. We are an MSP and SSP, which means we're on the security side, and we are a TitanHQ partner.
The stability is awesome. They have a very high 99.9 percent uptime.
A lot of companies that offer cloud services definitely go out of their way to have that high percentage of uptime. If your email goes down, you're not able to talk to anybody. It has to have a high rate of uptime. It's comparable to other solutions.
This is the most accurate threat detection and content filtering tool on the market today. It has flexible deployment options, including roaming clients for all operating systems, and Active Directory integration. It has features to fit your organization, whether you're fully remote, hybrid, or back in the office.
Their tech support is great. If I have a question or it stops working, they're really quick. I can open a ticket and work with a technician and they're pretty good at helping resolve issues. They're very effective. And they go out of their way to meet with folks and give you the support that you're looking for.
Compared to some of their competitors, they're quick. You don't have to wait three or four days for someone to pick up a ticket. Other solutions can be a little slower, in my experience. The level of expertise from TitanHQ's support is right up there. The engineers or the people that deal with the product every day know the product like the back side of their hand.
With every problem I've had, they've knocked it out of the park.
Positive
We were using DNS filtering, but we soon realized we needed more security.
WebTitan Cloud is a cloud-based web filtering solution that allows you to monitor, control, and protect your users and business when online. It requires no on-premise software or end-user client software, and the setup of the cloud filter is extraordinarily simple and quick.
They have very detailed support page with easy-to-follow guides and if you get stuck you can request support. We did ours in-house and was pretty straight forward to roll out. The support team is Top Notch!!!
The ROI is low because it is a hosted solution and the technology is on the backend. This saves us a ton of time each month.
Block Malware, Ransomware, and Phishing Advanced DNS Web Security and Content Filtering Software. WebTitan helps control the web content your staff accesses and protects your business from online threats with powerful DNS filtering. The setup and low cost are a huge plus!
We picked SpamTitan over other solutions. I like its usability, affordability, and ease of maintenance. It's constantly being tweaked behind the scenes. There are small things that happen under the covers that we don't see, but they're definitely wise to what's going on out there. There aren't many cons to the solution.
Just because they're not extremely expensive doesn't mean they don't work. You don't have to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on something, just to get it to work. TitanHQ does a great job with the product. They do a lot of advanced DNS scoping and a lot of preventive work against phishing and malware. They definitely protect their users quite effectively. And they have a 14-day trial so you can try it out.
As an MSP, there are aspects of the product's technology that helps us acquire new customers and add value. First, it's pretty straightforward and easy to roll out and add to someone's layers of security, which makes it an easy and affordable solution. Also, it's not extremely expensive. Other solutions get really pricey, really fast. In addition, WebTitan and SpamTitan work hand in hand. I recommend getting both. It also has a dashboard for both so you can see what's coming in and what's getting blocked, what the URL was, and it even divides it up by categories with overall percentages. That way, if you want to tweak the way people surf the net, you can certainly do that.
The bad guys (Bad Actors) have lots of money and lots of bad helpers. They probably have more resources than you do. They're trying to get in and you're trying to block them. It's cops and robbers. But with the right tools, you can make your good guys' house really strong and defeat most of the bad guys. Obviously, they don't want to get caught, so the more they hang around or try to get into something, the more likely it is that something is going to track them. If there's enough tracking, you can find out their IP, because everybody has one assigned and it goes all the way down to their username and address. Unfortunately, there are super-smart ones and you'll never see them coming. There's just nothing you can do about that unless you have a locked-down local environment with no outside access, and some places do that.
Small and medium companies, with the growth of hacking and malware, can be prime targets for attacks. There are studies that show that half of SMBs have suffered cyber-attacks. They need security that works for them to keep them safe from constant attacks. I would highly recommend SpamTitan, and I have been in the industry for 35 years. It's very effective and very easy to use.
We're a relatively small company, and SpamTitan provides our spam filtering solution. I have 16 email boxes out there right now, including individual email addresses and generic email addresses for sales, customer service, etc. Outside of the normal SpamTitan features, we don't use any other TitanHQ products or any other features aside from filtering and reporting.
To be honest, it wasn't much of an improvement over Barracuda except for the price point. Barracuda had more granularity as far as how deep I could dig. I think that had more to do with the fact that we had the appliance on-site, so it gave me more features.
On the other hand, SpamTitan is effortless to manage and administer. They do a lot more behind the scenes, so I can't access the configuration. However, I honestly don't think I needed most of the configuration options that I had with Barracuda. A lot of that was overkill. I can understand where some companies might need more of it, but it was absolutely fine for our needs.
Spam filtering, in general, is a big time saver. We've had a spam filter for many years now. I think we originally bought Barracuda in 2005 or 2006. The difference between having a spam filter and not having one is night and day. Our CEO was getting upwards of about 600 emails per day, and that went down to around 40. He was pleased with the results we got from Barracuda. SpamTitan maintained that performance. The amount of unwanted emails is minimal compared to what we see in our reports.
SpamTitan probably saves hours of time. It also prevents employees from missing important emails because they have become desensitized to them. Spam makes email less effective as a communications tool. You stop looking at your email when all you get is junk all the time.
I don't get much employee feedback about spam filtering, but there were some new features when we switched to SpamTitan. For example, Barracuda wouldn't give you a report, but SpamTitan sends a daily individual report to each user identifying questionable emails in quarantine and asking them if they want to allow them.
It took a couple of days to get everyone trained and on board with how it worked. Nobody complains or says anything about it. Occasionally, someone misses an email they're expecting, and I have to show them that the email might be in quarantine. The impacts are minimal.
We get reports on blocked emails. I review them weekly to see who the heavy hitters are inside the office. We need our email addresses out there to do business, so we have sales and customer service email addresses that need to be out there. Those are the biggest targets for spam. SpamTitan cuts down the amount of spam that we receive, but it's about the same as Barracuda.
Initially, I had some issues where we were getting emails coming in that appeared to come in from our own internal domain. My company is called M2 Systems, so our domain name is M2-corp.com. I had to get on with support twice to get them to help me mitigate or block that from happening.
On Barracuda, it was much easier to click a switch or a button to disallow this. It was more my unfamiliarity, but I think they could make it a little easier to keep the origination from looking like it comes from the internal domain.
We started in June 2020, so we've been a SpamTitan customer for around two years.
I rate SpamTitan 10 out of 10.
SpamTitan is scalable. It comes into their systems, but it all filters. We only have a single mail server, and everybody retrieves mail from there. I can't personally speak to its scalability because we're not large enough to really have other offices or anything like that. However, if we were to add a hundred more users, the only aspect that I assume would change would be the pricing model. We would go to a higher level because we'd have more mailboxes to filter.
I rate TitanHQ support 10 out of 10. They responded quickly. TitanHQ has a separate portal for issues that are unrelated to administering the SpamTitan environment. I showed them what we were seeing and asked why we were seeing this. They explained the issue well, and we got it fixed.
Positive
We had a Barracuda spam firewall model 200 that was up for renewal. You have to renew the license annually to keep the product up to date. It was on the pricey side already, and they had increased the price by about 30-40%.
My company only had about 25 mailboxes that needed protection at the time, so the cost was out of line with what we were thinking. We did a one-month evaluation of SpamTitan and found that it met our needs as well as Barracuda.
The fact that we didn't need to buy hardware was one deciding factor. This is a hosted product, so we only needed to point our DNS to their mail system and have our mail server retrieve it from them. In terms of integration, the pain was minimal. We just made a couple of DNS entries. I liked Barracuda as a product. The problem was the pricing was getting excessive for the amount of coverage we need.
I was involved throughout the whole setup. I'm the only IT person here and have been since about 2017. Setting up SpamTitan is straightforward. I had no issues with the evaluation phase or the final production conversion.
You point to their server and retrieve the email from there. After that, I had to inform our users that we were switching from Barracuda to SpamTitan. There might be a 30-minute disruption in the email services. It was easy to switch. Aside from a few minor issues, we had no problems whatsoever. It doesn't require any maintenance aside from changing the internal settings so that we don't get external emails that look like it's coming from us.
We see a return from not having to deal with spam on our inbound emails. It absolutely pays for us to have this.
I'm pleased with the pricing. We're happy with their licensing model. It was a major factor in why we chose them. The ease of use and conversion were the other two.
Aside from the domain origination issue, everything else has worked fantastically. I don't have any complaints about them at all. The price was what we expected to pay, given the number of users that we had.
I had a few different products suggested to me, and SpamTitan was one of them.
I rate SpamTitan 10 out of 10. The only aspect you need to know is how to administer an email in a DNS system. An inexperienced IT person could do this without issue.

We're an MSP providing IT services and we host mail servers in Switzerland and the United Arab Emirates.
We host SpamTitan behind a firewall, and the SpamTitan appliances talk to a first load balancer. The load balancer directs the traffic to our mail servers which are still in the DMZ. After the Edge servers, they redirect the mail flow to our internal firewalls. From these firewalls, we go to another load balancer and the backend infrastructure, where we have our mailboxes.
As a SpamTitan MSP, several aspects of TitanHQ's technology help us acquire new customers and add value to our services and product offerings. These include the anti-spam efficiency, the efficiency of the antivirus engine included in the product, and the self-service user quarantine. Since deploying the tool, we have had almost no viruses, and the malware detection is excellent.
TitanHQ works hard to provide the best service, which can be challenging as client service is an art, but they have made many improvements recently. They're always seeking client feedback regarding support services, which we appreciate. They're constantly developing new features, some become premium, and some they offer for free, such as anti-phishing features. TitanHQ recently developed a new feature called Link Lock, which our clients appreciated and even convinced some prospective clients to join, as that's a selling point for us as an anti-spam product.
The most significant benefit of being a TitanHQ partner is that they care about how they provide:
In terms of real, tangible benefits for our clients, by upgrading to SpamTitan, we were able to reverse the trend of dissatisfaction in our customer base. It changed the quality of our services for the better.
SpamTitan spares a significant amount of employee time and effort by not having to sort through spam and junk emails. The end-user quarantine mailbox and the self-service portal offered to every end-user through a web portal are convenient and time-saving features. Users can access their quarantines and decide to whitelist, block, or blacklist emails, which frees up our service desk team. The time we spend going through junk and spam emails dramatically decreased by around 40-50% compared to our old solution, and our service desk team is now happy with our infrastructure services. It used to be a nightmare with our old provider.
We've also seen a dramatic improvement in our spam catch rate and a reduction in false positives since implementing SpamTitan. Our clients' main criticism of us was the lack of flexibility in the previous anti-spam solution we used. Now we have flexibility, transparency, and efficiency, which all matter to our clients and us.
All the features are valuable; mail security isn't about one feature but rather a collection of features. The good thing about SpamTitan is its versatility because it offers every feature we need. They're not always easy to implement, but we have access to the entire suite required by an MSP like us to provide the best service possible to our clients. We appreciate that, and everything we could wish for regarding email security is included in the product.
The standout features include the anti-phishing feature, which is particularly advantageous as far as our clients are concerned; it was a very welcome addition for many of them.
The ability to do mail sandboxing before delivering and receiving emails for antivirus and anti-malware detection is excellent.
The double antivirus and anti-malware engine utilizing Clam AntiVirus and Bitdefender, plus all the standard security processes, including anti-spoofing detection, DKIM, and business email compromise (BEC) features, make for a robust security profile. We appreciate these features, and they all work very well.
The quarantine report frequency could be better.
Sometimes we have specific concerns and requests for TitanHQ that their product can't currently cater to because it's not designed for it. We are often told this will be included in the roadmap. Still, we need visibility on when it will be deployed, when a requested feature will become available, or even tested. More transparency on this front would be a big plus.
We've been using SpamTitan for a little over three years.
The solution is stable and reliable; we never had an issue regarding operational stability and service access. We only had third-party issues or problems related to our infrastructure services.
The solution is scalable; we run it as a virtual machine, so we have the associated flexibility. As long as we pay for them, we can add as many nodes as we need. We never had to worry about scaling the product.
We currently have around 1,500 end users.
The technical support is responsive and client-oriented; they care about the client. They listen to client complaints and continually work to improve their services, so we are very satisfied. The support isn't ideal or perfect, and in some cases, we weren't completely satisfied, but TitanHQ always tries to do better based on our feedback.
Comparing SpamTitan's customer support team versus our previous solution, it's night and day, which is one of the reasons we switched to them. SpamTitan changed our lives as an MSP in terms of mail security.
When we open tickets with them, we know they will help us in a timely and efficient way, which gives us peace of mind. This wasn't the case with our previous solution; we always chased technicians for a working solution and feedback. With TitanHQ, it's the other way around; they chase us for feedback, and they're concerned with the quality and relevance of their support. They care about the client experience, and that's great.
Positive
We previously used Broadcom SMG and switched because we were unsatisfied with the product. We had a lot of false positives and spam getting through, so we wanted to improve our situation significantly. We met with a SpamTitan sales team, who were very convincing. We agreed that we needed their product and implemented the on-prem solution.
As I'm the Infrastructure Manager, I was involved in the deployment, and we were surprised by how easy the deployment was. TitanHQ has a very well-done online wiki, which made the setup elementary. The initial deployment took a few days, and the most challenging part was to cut over from our old solution without impacting our clients and end users. Aside from that, the deployment was a breeze.
We finalized the agreement on the licensing, downloaded the SpamTitan images as we were running VMware as a hypervisor, deployed the images, made the network configurations, and double-checked that they were correctly done. We then started testing the mail flow, and when this was conclusive, we started the client migration. I carried out the deployment alone for the most part, with one other employee to double-check the setup, which is our company policy for deploying a new product.
The only maintenance required is part of a lifecycle management process we have as a company, in which we're required to check for obsolete hardware and software revisions regularly. SpamTitan is no exception, and it's very straightforward; we check if there's a software update available through a GUI, and if there is, we take a snapshot as we're running a virtual machine. We back up with our backup solution as an additional safety layer and go through the upgrade; it's an ideal process.
We have a considerable ROI; we lost clients with our previous tool, whereas now we have expanded our client base and are getting prospective clients because we have a reliable solution.
The price is quite advantageous; we were initially surprised at the pricing compared to other solutions, which made us doubt if this was the solution for us. Then, we discovered SpamTitan's features and how cost-effective it is. The sales team does an excellent job making our life easier in terms of pricing, which is another significant advantage of this product.
We evaluated MailCleaner and a more expensive solution, Cisco Secure Email, which we didn't find cost-effective. We made a product comparison and decided to go with SpamTitan, and we don't regret our choice.
I rate the solution eight out of ten.
TitanHQ's key differentiator for its partners is the level of support services; they're fast, responsive, efficient, and care about client satisfaction. That's the main differentiator, plus the fact that their product is constantly evolving with new features.
We don't use the solution's geo-blocking feature because we are not convinced by IP-based blocking instead of location-based. We know geolocation based on a GPS location is challenging, and very few providers offer it, but the current state of IP-based geolocation features is not a requirement for us or our client base.
TitanHQ needs to continue surveying us for client satisfaction regarding their support services, as that's important to us. We appreciate it when they send us emails from time to time asking about our opinion or satisfaction. We also appreciate how they get back to us when a new feature becomes available that could help us improve our services, so we want them to keep this up.
My advice to others evaluating SpamTitan is to refer to the excellent wiki hosted on the solution's website or contact the amazing, client-focused L2 and L3 staff, who are happy to answer any query.

We are a support service provider here in Israel, and we have 200 to 300 clients. We use SpamTitan for a service that we give to our clients, which includes those who have Office 365 and those who have the on-prem Exchange service.
It has reduced the risk of getting viruses from emails by almost a hundred percent. We are giving services to hundreds of companies, and it makes our work a lot easier when SpamTitan is filtering threats. About two or three years ago, there was a ransomware or virus attack in Israel, and all the customers who were on SpamTitan were safe. They were free from that risk. A lot of customers who didn't have SpamTitan were impacted by the attack.
It saves time. When you properly fine-tune it for your needs, there are almost no calls about the service. It's constantly working and pretty much accurate in filtering emails. It's about 99% accurate. We have customers using Microsoft 365. When they moved to Microsoft 365 the last year, they decided not to pay for this service, but it blocks better. It works better than Microsoft 365. They have some spam emails passing through Microsoft Defender or Microsoft 365 protection.
We use the geo-blocking feature. In Israel, we get a lot of threats from all over the world, and we are not using all the domains. We are filtering more than a hundred domains, but we also have companies or customers who work with other countries, and they do want to accept emails from everybody, such as Brazil, Amsterdam, etc. We offer it as a service. If they want me to block emails from certain countries, we do that. When this feature is on, it does help. It works as expected. I never had a customer complaining that we used some geo-blocking filter, but they still got emails. So, it does help.
The system in general has some advantages in terms of the way it works. They describe it as having 99.9% success in catching spam, viruses, and other things, which is quite true. I like the way it works.
First of all, it has two tests for the email or the connection that comes. The first one is whether it's in a blacklist or an SPF record, which helps determine if it will allow the sender to continue and insert the email into the system. It does fast tests from my point of view, and it almost filters 50% more junk email, and if it's a blacklist, it works 100% from my point of view. It blocks the messages that fail the SPF test. SPF is a standard policy framework that tells the recipient server whether the sender is authorized to send an email for that domain. If some devices or PCs are not allowed to send emails for that specific domain, it already blocks that, which saves a lot of hassle and a lot of pressure on the server. The content filter comes in the second stage, which means the email was approved in the first stage. The content filter does a couple of tests through the anti-spam engine and the antivirus engine. It also has a sandbox. If the email has an attachment, it opens the attachment in the sandbox to decide whether it's a virus or not or whether it's a threat or not.
It has two antivirus engines: ClamAV and Bitdefender. It has the OCR technology or the content filter to identify familiar words or hazardous links inside the content. It has link locks and all kinds of features. I have tuned off some of the settings because the tests that it's currently doing are good enough for me. For my usage, it's at the right level for getting the email safely without being hassled by customers for releasing email in quarantine, etc. There are certain levels that you want to reach. First, you want the mailbox to be safe, and second, as a provider, you want a lesser number of service calls. So, you need to adjust the setting and fine-tune the filter engines at a level where the service calls are logical and acceptable. Otherwise, you would find yourself hustling with hundreds of customers because they don't understand why something is being blocked. Doing mail forensics is quite complicated, and nobody likes it. So, in that way, the system is very good. It provides nice fine-tuning options.
It should have reporting capability. It has logs, which are very extensive. It catches all the SMTP connections to the servers, but when you have hundreds of domains, you need to wait for about an hour for the logs to open, and there are millions of lines. If you want to find something specific, such as an email coming or an IP connection, and you want to troubleshoot that, it's very hard. So, I would recommend building a reporting system or log viewer with some filters. Currently, it is everything or nothing.
The queue management could be better. If you are under attack and you get thousands or hundreds of emails, you can't control the queue. You need to call them, and they delete the garbage from the queue behind the scene. Otherwise, your server will be blocked.
I have been using this solution for 14 years.
It's very reliable. We have been working with it for almost 14 years. I can count on one hand the number of times we have had any problems with the system. Usually, the problems are related to cleaning the queue, but when it comes to technical problems, that has happened only five times in 14 years. It's very good.
It can grow. You can add more servers to the cluster. You can move to the cloud, or you can have a mixed setup. It's very scalable.
We are a quite large company that gives support to a few hundred customers. We have two servers in a cluster. So, it's a cluster environment. We have a top supporter that has access to top-level management. We have domain management users who have only access to domain-level management, and of course, each user can manage his own mailbox or his own setting. There are three layers of management in SpamTitan.
I have contacted them many times. I would rate them a 9 out of 10.
Positive
We used Atera in 2009 or 2010. We had their service. It was nothing compared to SpamTitan, but that was about 14 years ago.
I deployed it. It was straightforward, and it didn't take me long. It worked pretty fast. It was a fast process. In terms of the setup, the servers are in our hosting farm. They are not in the cloud. They are on-prem.
It's easy to use. Setting it up required a bit of figuring out the terminology and what they meant by what was written out there. Nowadays, they have improved that. Each section has a help option or information explaining what it does, what the setting is all about, and what to choose in case you want to change it, but it wasn't like this in the beginning.
In terms of maintenance, they provide system updates once in six months. The rest of the engines, such as the antivirus engine and the anti-spam engine, get updated hourly. They need updated signatures. They are updated automatically almost hourly, and it's done in the background without any disturbance.
It's easy to sell once the price is okay. It's easy to make deals. There is an ROI.
Compared to the market, its price is fair.
I remember a new version of Atera was coming out. I tested that, and I tested Cisco IronPort. I probably also played around with Barracuda, but SpamTitan was very easy to use and manage. It took me two hours to learn the whole system. It was very fast to set up.
I would recommend it depending on an end user's needs from the system because not all of them want the same thing. However, the system is straightforward, and it's filtering emails.
I would rate it a 10 out of 10. It's very good. It's one of the best.

I'm the owner of a managed service provider. SpamTitan provides a front end for Office 365 for some of my customers. About three years ago, some of my clients came under an email attack, so I deployed an email filter from Barracuda. We used that for a few years before switching to SpamTitan.
We offer SpamTitan as a solution to those who need it. I don't think everybody needs it. Office 365 does a decent job of filtering spam, but SpamTitan is easier to use and probably performs better for customers with significant spam problems. It's a 100% cloud solution, but it's not like we deploy it to AWS or Azure and integrate it into their cloud or anything. It's a turnkey solution.
As a TitanHQ partner, we reap some financial benefits from selling it. We have the ability to call the vendor to get problems resolved quickly and gain access to some of the other products they sell besides SpamTitan. They seem to be responsive and keep in touch with their partners via email.
I don't know if SpamTitan has saved our clients money because it's priced similarly to the other products we were using, but it has definitely saved them time. Receiving lots of spam is a problem so the less junk email the better from an end-user standpoint.
It reduces email clutter, improving employee productivity. It does what it says it does. It reduces spam by quite a bit above and beyond the Office 365 built-in spam filter. One aspect our clients liked about SpamTitan was the ability to easily see what was blocked. Previously, they had to log in and search for emails. If they didn't get something they were expecting, they would see it in the report the next day. They can click a button and restore it. That's the biggest productivity benefit.
I like the notifications SpamTitan sends. Other products require the user to log into the system to see if something was blocked. SpamTitan sends users an email showing them any potential spam that was blocked and they can click on it to release it. It's much easier for the end-user.
Another feature I like is SpamTitan's integration with Active Directory. With previous spam solutions, we had to add a new user into their system and the Active Directory separately, but this is integrated.
The report comes out every morning. If a valid email gets blocked, I won't know about it until the next morning unless I log into the system to check, but it's quite a bit of work. Some users have requested that they get the report more often than once a day. If someone booked an airline flight or something that's time-sensitive and it gets blocked, they wouldn't find out until the next day. By then, it's probably too late. They would like notifications more often than once daily.
I have used SpamTitan for around six months.
I rate SpamTitan 10 out of 10 for performance and stability. I've never had any problems. It just works.
I rate SpamTitan 10 out of 10 for scalability. If I need to put thousands of users on it, I just buy the licenses, and it'll work.
I rate TitanHQ support eight out of 10. I have called them a few times. They're responsive. They're probably in the top 75th percentile in terms of support. Microsoft Office also has great support. I could them pretty quickly without waiting. They seemed to be knowledgeable and solve my problems.
Positive
We previously used Barracuda, which we had purchased from another reseller, but they weren't doing much with that anymore. We decided to do market research and see what was out there. We did some demos of SpamTitan and found it was effective. It was easy to install and competitively priced, and so that's why we switched.
Setting up SpamTitan is pretty easy. Once you flip the switch, all your email is now routed to SpamTitan, then back to Office 365. Once it's configured and you turn it on, the email just flows through the system.
An important part of the implementation was communicating with the users, telling them what we're doing, why we're doing it, and how the reporting works. Once it's configured, we don't need to do anything else with it. There are no upgrades, maintenance, or tweaking. We'll add some whitelists occasionally, but it's very low maintenance.
There's an annual fee, and it's reasonable. I think the pricing is decent, and the customers don't balk at the price. It is a relatively small amount per user per year, so it's a pretty easy sell.
We looked at some other solutions but not with the same depth as we reviewed SpamTitan. After some preliminary research on the other ones, we decided to do a trial. We found it met all our needs, so we continued with it.
Compared to other products, SpamTitan was easier to install and integrate with Office 365. That was a real plus, but the biggest advantage for end users is the daily report each morning that shows all the blocked emails they can release themselves.
I rate TitanHQ SpamTitan nine out of 10. I recommend trying it. They have a trial that's pretty easy to turn on. Test it out, and I think you'll like it.

We are using it as a gateway antivirus. It is for spam protection of our Exchange Server.
It offers gateway protection. It allows our Exchange Server to be hidden behind the network. It limits the exposure to our Exchange Server.
It saves me an hour a day by not having to go through people's spam. It gives me a little bit of confidence knowing that we have the ability to very quickly block out attachments that we don't want, such as macro-enabled spreadsheets or even HTML files. It's a big vector. It's very easy to configure to block and graylist a lot of things that we see coming in as a vector for email attacks. So, it gives us much better security overall, as well as some time savings on the administration side.
Content filtering as well as Link Lock, which is URL parsing, are valuable, but anti-spam would be the biggest feature to help reduce overall spam for the company. It allows users to control what spam gets quarantined, etc. Before we had SpamTitan, it was me going through 300 emails a day to whitelist or release items from quarantine, and now people could do it themselves. It has literally saved me an hour a day just doing that.
The interface is a little dated aesthetically. I know that's a small thing, but it could use a little bit of a facelift.
The only other thing is to have more flexibility for multi-domain environments, but I don't know if it is technically possible. Currently, the sending and receiving is limited to your one domain. If you need to split the sending of emails through using different certificates, you don't have the ability to do that. So, multi-domain flexibility would be nice. Outside of that, technically, I haven't found any problems with it.
I have been using this solution for almost a year.
I had some issues with the last update. It was a little concerning at the time because we could see the emails queuing up in the system, and we couldn't understand why they weren't being released to the end users in the backend. A quick call to support again fixed that. So, there was a hiccup, but the support was there to assist. We were back up and running within 10 to 15 minutes.
I can't really compare its stability to our previous solution considering the fact that we didn't have anything that we managed by ourselves. We don't have anything to compare it to because the Exchange Server handled all the spam before we had this. Exchange is just as stable as sitting on a three-legged stool. So, I would say that it's stable.
We haven't run into that in terms of disk space and other things to see what it would take to expand it beyond its usage. Currently, I see scalability as not being a problem. If I needed to add more resources to the virtual machine, I could in a heartbeat. Licensing is easy to add on. It's just a support call to pay for more licensing, which is also cost-effective. So, I see it as being a scalable product.
In terms of our plans to expand its usage, we are always growing as a company. We're always adding more demand onto it just through natural hiring and expansion. It's still meeting our day-to-day needs.
They're very responsive. They don't have a phone number to call. You have to email them in order to get that phone call. The lack of a ticketing type of help desk setup is the only thing that is a stumbling block, but otherwise, they are very responsive.
Positive
On the government side of things, they used to use URL parsing as well. I can't remember the name of it. It was a big one, but they dropped it because it was so expensive, and we couldn't afford to pick it up. This has link parsing as well, and it still comes with the appliance.
Its deployment is private. We host it on our own. It's with our own environment. The way we have it deployed is that we have all of our locations across the province. We have VPNed into one central location where we host all of our servers, our Exchange, etc. The SpamTitan appliance sits on that central network, and from there, our email would come in again over the internet or through the government, and then it would go through the appliance to the Exchange Server. That's it in a nutshell. We have a hyper-conversion infrastructure with HP SimpliVity. So, it's sitting on a virtual machine running on VMware right now.
Its initial setup was straightforward. Their documentation was very thorough. I had it all set up as a virtual appliance before I made a call to them to help run through the rest of the setup. They had it up and running within 10 minutes.
There is a very small learning curve. Their support is good. They do call you within a reasonable time. There are a lot of settings in this appliance that can be confusing or inundating to people that aren't familiar with the terminologies or the technologies. So, it can be a little bit intimidating, but I found that for the basic setup, for what you need, it works really well. For any of the advanced tasks, it's only a matter of going to the website to find out how to configure it.
In terms of the ease of use being a factor when deciding to go with SpamTitan, if it's something complex, I would expect good support to be there to help me through it, and if it's something simple, then all the better. So, I don't usually worry about setup as long as support is efficient enough to deal with it. In this case, SpamTitan was, so I didn't find it at all hard to set up or configure or go through the settings. We were up and running in about 10 minutes, so I'd consider that pretty good. I'd rate it an eight out of ten in terms of ease of setup.
In terms of updates, there are updates that become available probably three times a year. I've only seen it once since we deployed it. So, that maintenance is required to update, but otherwise, the system is pretty self-sufficient.
We have 100% seen an ROI. We see something come in through a single vector, and we're able to squash it before it does any major damage. On the administration side of things, it's amazing. I can move on things a lot faster with SpamTitan. When I see an attack come in, I can easily stop it in its tracks and prevent it from moving forward really quickly. It has absolutely been a godsend.
Its pricing is good. It's probably one of the most competitive anti-spam and anti-malware appliances out there for email. I was doing some looking around for pricing before I came to SpamTitan, and for the feature set, the price is very reasonable and competitive.
There is an additional cost to Link Lock for link parsing. That was a separate add-on. It's called SpamTitan Plus, and that's how they bundled it. We opted to have that protection as well.
We were trialing Darktrace just to see what it would do. It was decent but grossly expensive. It was tethered to another product that we didn't have a need for. So, we did a trial of that product, and we did have some other experience with the government solution, but this one, we manage ourselves. It does a very good job for the price that you're paying for it. It's very cost-effective.
There is a free evaluation option. Take it and try it out. It's easy to slip into your network and see how it works before you buy it. The support team is there to help you everywhere in between. Try before you buy. That's the best advice that I can give, and chances are you'll like it.
We are currently not using the geo-blocking feature because we are receiving our email through a smart host, where all the emails are filtered through the government to us. It only appears as one geo-location. Another reason why we decided to go with this kind of appliance or virtual appliance was that we're moving away from that platform, and we'll be wide open to the internet, and we didn't want our Exchange Server completely exposed. Within about two months, this system will be handling all External emails from across the world, and we will be geoblocking some countries known to be big malicious users.
I would rate it a nine out of ten. It does its job, and it allows me to pivot in ways that I didn't think I needed to before. If I cared more about the looks, I'd probably give it a seven, but in terms of functionality and how it works, I don't have a problem with it. It works really well.

We use it in front of Office 365. We have 365 in the cloud. We use SpamTitan in front of it as a filter to make sure we don't lose anything in our protection, or our onion. It's just one more slice of the skin.
It has been a long time, but I know that they did some benchmarking back when it was put in. My understanding is that it has improved the blocking of spam by 50% to 60% from when we were relying on other products to do that. I wasn't here when they implemented it, but looking back at some of the old notes, there has been an improvement of 50% to 60% of less spam coming through. That is huge. This 50% to 60% reduction in emails certainly makes a big difference.
It has definitely saved employees time by not having to sort through junk and spam emails. The daily report that lets them pick and choose what they would like to pull through is much easier than having to go through the whole list of emails, etc. They don't worry about it much. They look at that report, and they determine what's worth taking out of it. It's not very often that they pull anything out of it. It's a quick look, and you're done, rather than scrolling through 20, 30, or 100 emails that would've got through and you have to sort them out. It's definitely a time saver.
I know it only takes them seconds to go through the SpamTitan list, review it, and just delete the SpamTitan email. I know it's not taking a lot of their time just from looking at my own report. On a daily basis, I get a report that shows 60 to 100 emails that were blocked by SpamTitan, and I know I don't have to go through those. I just need to have a quick look. The only thing I do is to look for stuff that I was expecting that got caught by SpamTitan, but that doesn't happen very often. It's a huge time saver from that perspective.
We get maybe one or two calls a week, maybe in false positives, where SpamTitan caught something that should have gone through. One or two false positives in a week are excellent. That just means my team doesn't have to worry too much.
I like its ease of use. As director of IT, I'm often in contact with our staff to make sure that they're safe and secure in their usage of email, etc. The quarantine features in SpamTitan make it really easy for them to review messages that haven't come in, and the rating of the score helps them determine whether or not they want to look at them at all. So, I see the quarantine feature as one of the best things in SpamTitan.
There is ease of use for the individuals who are accessing it. It doesn't require a lot of training. It's intuitive. You can see what you need to see. They get their daily reports so they know what they're looking at. If they're missing something they were expecting to come in, they can contact the help desk, and we can take care of that for them. It's easy for my team to find things. The filtering setup on it is quite good.
I personally haven't gone through SpamTitan enough. I don't necessarily need the reporting features and whatnot. There are a lot of things that might be of value, but at this point in time, I don't use them. If there was a way to increase the frequency of the daily report, that would be helpful. Somehow I thought that it was just a setting. If it's not a setting that I can change, it would definitely be helpful to have that come two times a day: one during the day at one o'clock or two o'clock in the afternoon and one overnight. If they could adjust the frequency of the reporting so that I could have it two times a day, that would be helpful.
There is no plugin for Outlook, which might be of an advantage so that you can just click on a link in Outlook that takes you right to your quarantine list. It doesn't have that at the moment.
I have been using this solution for about five or six years.
It has been extremely reliable. We haven't had any outages or downtime with them. I can't remember anything in recent memory. In the last year or so, we haven't had any outages. We haven't had any problems. Our team has had a few questions about configuration, and they were responded to very quickly. It's very reliable. It's always on, and it just works.
We haven't had to change it a whole lot. I don't know for sure, but my understanding is that it's very flexible. I get a call from our sales rep, and we walk through the options and determine whether or not we're going to change. One of the questions I have is whether we need to change the number of access points, and the answer has been no for the last couple of years. So, I assume they scale quite well, but I don't know for sure. It didn't seem to be an issue from their side anyway.
In terms of its usage, we have a single location. We're a manufacturing company. We have one location, and it's deployed across the network here. I have roughly 143 users, and I have two admins to manage that. It reduces the effort on part of my admin team, but it also reduces the effort on part of the users themselves.
My team has had the occasional reason to call them up when they weren't sure of a setting that they needed to change. The response has been quick. It has been easy, and they've met all our time frames in terms of responding. So, we've been happy with it.
I would rate their tech support a ten out of ten. They're very responsive. They're very quick, and the answers are succinct. There are no issues.
Positive
My team didn't have any trouble implementing it and getting it running quickly with the cloud team. Originally, it was on-premises, and we went to the cloud three years ago. The switchover and implementation were great. There were no issues, problems, or hiccups.
Its maintenance is very lightweight. It runs in the background. We don't have to worry about it. We haven't had any issues with failures, outages, or anything. It has been excellent.
What I pay for it in the year, I definitely recoup all of that in the time saved for my team and the users in terms of not having to deal with problems.
Its pricing is good. We've been happy with the pricing. I know that they did some extensive research, and the pricing was quite favorable with everything else that they looked at. My budget hasn't changed a whole lot over the last three to five years. It's nice to see that it has remained pretty steady. So, I am happy with the pricing. It provides good value for money.
My team here did a pretty good job comparing two other options against this particular option, and SpamTitan was head and shoulders better.
I would advise doing a good comparison with other mail filters. Do your due diligence and take a look at the other options and list both sides of the equation. You'll find that SpamTitan is better than whatever else you're looking at.
SpamTitan has a lot of nice features, but we haven't got to utilize all of them. We haven't used the geo-blocking feature. We've thought about turning it on, but we don't use it at the moment, and that's just a matter of we haven't gotten to it yet. Similarly, we haven't yet used ArcTitan or EncryptTitan. We're pretty much using the basic version of SpamTitan. We'll be looking at all of the options for SpamTitan as we move forward.
I would rate it a nine out of ten because I don't know all the options. I haven't utilized all of what we could. I haven't explored the rest of it, but I would highly recommend it. I have no problem recommending the product. I know it works quite well. It functions, it works, and I don't have to think about it much.
