Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The most important feature is that it's easy to use.""The initial setup is quite straightforward.""The most valuable feature is that DPM has an index so individual files can be searched.""The solution backs up Microsoft workloads as well as anything on the market.""It is almost perfect for Microsoft products. It is not a very powerful tool, but it is okay for small sites and small businesses with Microsoft products. It is easy to use for backup and restore. It is good for backing up Microsoft servers such as Exchange and SharePoint servers.""It has an application backup, a file backup, a system backup and a hypervisor.""The automated procedure is quite good for us, as it is able to capture all of the information that we require."

"In terms of most valuable features, we are mostly using the Cloud Connect feature. It is flexible because you can use it on-prem and on cloud.""Integration with various applications, such as on-premises laptops and desktop backups, as well as applications and databases, is excellent.""Veeam's file monitoring capabilities are strong and consistent.""The documentation is very good. It's also easy to install Veeam Backup and Replication.""The most valuable features of Veeam Backup Replication are efficient backup and replication. Additionally, Veeam Backup Replication supports all products and vendors.""They provide good technical support and we are satisfied with the support we have received.""Simple and stable.""Veeam is easy to use."

Cons
"Additional Hyper-V knowledge would be great.""There is a very poor online user community in terms of people blogging about their experiences with DPM.""Compatibility and integration with other products needs improvement.""Management reporting could be improved.""It needs portability for other vendors. It is good for backing up Microsoft servers, but it doesn't support third-party solutions such as Oracle Database. It depends on Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy, especially for Hyper-V, which has a lot of problems. They should enhance the Volume Shadow Copy functionality. Its reporting should also be better. Reporting is too weak in DPM.""The user interface can be improved quite a bit.""You have only a few settings and if you change them for some special configurations, it's very difficult."

"I would like to see more broad support for other applications such as databases, or other operating systems.""The implementation of the features can be improved. Currently, there is no segregation of duty. Normally, any backup software or client service software is implemented in a way where one person is responsible for the implementation of the server, and one is responsible for the client, but Veeam Backup & Replication is not implemented in that way. Therefore, restores don't work like that. The backup guys have to do the restores, which is not a good thing. Its pricing should also be improved. It is quite expensive.""Although the solution offers documentation, it has it only in English, which doesn't help us much in Belarus.""I think that Veeam could improve some performance issues when the backup itself is restored. I'm also using HPE StoreOnce, which has deduplication, and when I'm trying to test or run backups, it takes a lot of time. I think they could improve the testing for backup copies.""There needs to be more integration with VMware and the virtual machine.""The integration with other solutions should be improved.""Immutability could be improved.""They can improve the features and Veeam Enterprise Manager. The interface and features are kind of limited. It would be good if they can provide more features and a better interface. For example, if I want to provide certain users with the privilege to back up and restore and do day-to-day tasks, I cannot do it in the current version. It is like you either give everything to everyone or no user can have access to anything. In version 9, a lot of features were missing, and it wasn't clear. Version 10 is easier from the communication perspective, and the disk backup option is very clear."

    Overview
Data Protection Manager (DPM) is an enterprise backup system. Using DPM you can backup (copy) data from a source location to a target secondary location. If original data is unavailable because of planned or unexpected issues, you can restore data from the secondary location. Using DPM you can back up application data from Microsoft servers and workloads, and file data from servers and client computers. You can create full backups, incremental backups, differential backups, and bare-metal backups to completely restore a system.

Veeam® Availability Suite™ delivers something fundamentally different — Availability for the Always-On Enterprise™ — leveraging IT investments in server virtualization, modern storage and the cloud to help organizations meet today’s service-level objectives, enabling recovery of any IT service and related applications and data within seconds and minutes.
