Hybrid backup strategy has improved recovery orchestration and now supports flexible DR planning
I think improvements could be made in Commvault Cloud. Lately what I have seen is that there are AI capabilities that different data protection organizations are coming up with, which basically revolves around tiering of not frequently accessible data to glacier kind of storage, plus bringing in a high level of compression and deduplication capabilities. All those features I believe are there in other customers and they are bringing in new use cases from the AI perspective which I have not recently seen in Commvault. I have seen that Dell does have such features. We recently pitched a solution to the customers where we talked about data tiering and the other AI use cases, identifying the data by itself and autonomously taking decisions on how to tier the data between the different storage classes that we have. Those kind of capabilities that we have proposed to the customer as far as the partner solutions are concerned. I would like to see AI capabilities in Commvault Cloud. The rest of the features pretty much align with the other enterprise solutions that we have in the market. It is just the AI capability that is being asked by the customers as well as that I see missing with Commvault.

Streamlined data management reduces workload and costs significantly for the team
We are planning to use Rubrik Go's AI-powered insights for predictive analytics, but have not implemented this yet. I cannot provide updates on Rubrik Go's capability to automate data management tasks because I have not used that feature yet. Rubrik Go's integration capabilities with cloud providers have benefited my multi-cloud environment significantly. Rubrik Go's subscription model has helped me align my data protection investments, which is a good option as I am one of the customers who have deployed this subscription option. I am definitely satisfied with the licensing model as it is very simplified and easy to understand. On a scale of 1-10, I rate Rubrik Go a 9.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Security measures, including encryption and threat detection, contribute significantly to data protection, safeguarding against unauthorized access and cyber threats."
"Quick backups and restores of data are the most valuable features. It is important that it is an easy solution to integrate with the SAML authentication of our tenant, so we can have our users log into the systems and do their own restores, if needed."
"The most valuable feature of Metallic is its flexibility and user-friendly."
"We have multiple workloads, including SQL, Oracle, SAP HANA, especially Sybase, as well as file systems, VMs, and Exchange mailboxes. Commvault provides very good support for them."
"We are using a KVM system in our cloud, and this solution works very well with it."
"It is a scalable solution."
"What is most valuable to me are the search features, where you can search through large backup data sets and find what you're looking for. Our data sets are so big that we're over the petabyte mark. To find a specific file for a specific user out of 10,000 users is a challenge... If we can glean from them a general description of where it might be, the search feature comes in very handy to actually locate it and restore it for them."
"It's an enterprise product. It's a stable product. We have good support. Almost all databases are in the scope."
"The solution's most valuable feature is Sensitive Data Discovery."
"The solution's main focus is on security and ransomware."
"Even though the data is already in the cloud, it's an AWS, so by accessing the on-prem appliance you can still search because it is indexed from that appliance."
"This product has positively impacted my organization because in the legacy tool, we used to have significant workload and significant people to be deployed, in this case, we have very minimal requirements."
"The automation capabilities streamline our operations significantly."
"I think Rubrik Go is pretty good overall."
"The most valuable feature is the storage efficiency, as the storage footprint is very good."
"Rubrik Go's best feature is data visualization."

Cons

"The solution's breadth and depth of cloud support are good, but could be better. Some cloud features that are common-sense, especially on AWS, are not completely integrated yet in the product. They are a work-in-progress."
"Commvault HyperScale X is more expensive for hybrid environments than traditional solutions."
"In an upcoming release, the reports could be better."
"The navigation of it needs improvement in terms of the UX. The product itself, it works as expected. It's all user experience and user interface improvements that could be made and it could be made a little more consumer-friendly."
"Commvault likes to be ahead of the game when it comes to merging with other platforms, but sometimes it's before they have the solution truly baked in. Office 365 is an example. I feel that my company might be a litmus test for their solution, because we have such a large environment. Some of the promised solutions that we received from Commvault were more like testing solutions. They weren't really validated, meaning they were possibilities. There have been a lot of hot fixes for the solution that we're using right now, more than we expected."
"They need to improve when it comes to large, video file archiving. They're good, but they have not met my expectations as a customer in this area."
"I think the one thing that could be improved is the customer experience. The interface should be more user friendly."
"The product does not provide an option to save a copy of data on-premises."
"If you were to compare it to, say, EMC, the availability of the documentation, training programs, and end-user education aren't as good. Rubrik could improve this."
"There have been occasional issues with the user interface needing certain necessary information, requiring us to contact support for clarification."
"Being a modern backup solution, Rubrik should have an option to back up a Kubernetes cluster."
"You should be able to add more workloads to Rubrik Go."
"I think integration with multiple cloud support could be an additional feature that would make the product even better."
"The tool's pricing needs to be improved."
"The solution’s pricing could be reduced."
"The AWS backups could be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is cheaper than Veeam."
"The pricing is far better than we had in the past. The license for Dell EMC was not too expensive, but the storage, given that Dell EMC is based on data domains, was pretty expensive."
"Our cost is around $20,000 per month. The previous year, it was around $30,000 per month. It now costs less because Commvault changed the licensing type for providers."
"The cost of an integrator license is moderate and its features cover most customers."
"It is not the cheapest solution. I think the pricing is fair for mid-side customers. It is between all the other options."
"Commvault's license fee is per server-based."
"The price is not cheap, but when you compare it to the other products they are all almost the same level in terms of price."
"Compared with other backup technologies, Commvault is a bit more costly, but we are satisfied with the support, the services, and the features that we get with Commvault."
"It's an expensive product if you compare it to traditional backup solutions; however, if you compare it as a total cost of ownership for a solution, it is not."
"I would rate the product's pricing a seven out of ten. The solution's costs are monthly."
"The client pays for the solution depending on what they use."
"Rubrick Go is quite expensive - I would rate its pricing four out of ten."
"This is a very costly solution."
"The solution is reasonably priced."
"On a scale from one to ten, where one is expensive and ten is cheap, I rate the solution's pricing a three out of ten."
"Rubrik Go is more cost-effective than similar solutions by other vendors."
