Presents all information in one place and automates some of our manual processes
This product is used by more than 50 colleges in our state and it is purchased by the government. The system office does the testing and pushes out the patches to us, so everything has been testing. Even if there is any customization that needs to be done, it happens before it comes to us. As such, I haven't had to contact technical support myself.

Has connected financial data across departments and improved future cash flow planning
I would like to improve the integration with other solutions, as I need everything integrated, like the HR module, purchase module, SCM, production, and engineering. Each and every module should be connected to the finance module, and I think Oracle provides the right solution. Also, SAP, IFS, or Microsoft Dynamics 365 offer some solutions, but I am not as happy with them as I am with Oracle. I believe that Oracle E-Business Suite could improve by transitioning from Java-based scripts in our system to a web-based environment. While Oracle already has JD Edwards available in web-based format, I think it needs to be smoother for optimization and presentation in the future. In comparison, IFS is fully web-based, and all applications are sufficiently good and user-friendly. We are developing and trying to improve to a web-based setup, but it is currently too costly.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Decent support, large installed base, adequate plus training."
"Using Ellucian means that we have more automated processes, and don't have to do everything manually."
"I like that all of the student information is in one place."
"The most valuable features are straight-through processing because we need to make sure that we have a good end-to-end process."
"We have saved millions of dollars in inventory."
"Basically, the most valuable feature is the suite; basically, your integration between APAR, PO, fixed assets."
"The interface is easy to use."
"The use of the Oracle E-Business Suite has kept our organization healthy."
"Oracle E-Business Suite makes life easier for its users, so it really helps a lot in terms of return on investment."
"It can be an essential solution for those who can not just push to the cloud because they have critical data restrictions."
"The benefits and positive impacts I have seen from Oracle E-Business Suite include that it is the most customizable, most secure, and has a large user base with very good security."

Cons

"It is expensive and uses an antiquated database (Unidata) that requires a specialized set of technical skills in staff."
"The functionality for monitoring satisfactory academic progress has room for improvement."
"Oracle E-Business Suite could improve the tables. When we remove some of them sometimes they cloud the modules into one. It becomes a little difficult to segregate."
"When I look at some of my previous companies, they spent millions of dollars on deployment and even just doing an upgrade."
"We have dealt with customer service, and it was awful. For a system this size, it felt like we were merely buying software from them."
"E-Business Suite's user experience and interface could be improved."
"We have some glitches. We have some application server memory issues that generate huge Java dump files."
"Since we are hosted, we can’t do rollouts ourselves. We have to schedule them. A lot of our issues have been with our patching, since our hosting partner always seems to break something, which is frustrating."
"The way things are going, Oracle is not putting much effort into their master data management. They need to look into machine data and then the integrated data domain."
"For smaller ERP solutions, Oracle EBS is a complex solution which has complex requirements."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"Oracle's pricing is on the higher end."
"USD $100,000 annually."
"Both the current projects and future projects should be defined well. Licensing should be done according to current and near future plans."
"There is an annual licensing fee and you are able to add features depending on the scope of the environment."
"Whatever the products you use, you'll be paying a yearly maintenance price or a support price."
"At the time of purchasing the license the price was reasonable."
"Oracle has different licensing models available. For example, concurrent user license metric and power unit licensing metric. It is different from product to product, but for the application itself, the license is by the number of users."
"This is a highly-priced application and would not be affordable for small or medium business domains."
