Has improved incident response with better root cause visibility and supports flexible on-call scheduling
Datadog needs to introduce more hard limits to cost. If we see a huge log spike, administrators should have more control over what happens to save costs. If a service starts logging extensively, I want the ability to automatically direct that log into the cheapest log bucket. This should be the case with many offerings. If we're seeing too much APM, we need to be aware of it and able to stop it rather than having administrators reach out to specific teams. Datadog has become significantly slower over the last year. They could improve performance at the risk of slowing down feature work. More resources need to go into Fleet Automation because we face many problems with things such as the Ansible role to install Datadog in non-containerized hosts. We mainly want to see performance improvements, less time spent looking at costs, the ability to trust that costs will stay reasonable, and an easier way to manage our agents. It is such a powerful tool with much potential on the horizon, but cost control, performance, and agent management need improvement. The main issues are with the administrative side rather than the actual application.

Proactive monitoring boosts system reliability but requires improved protocol support and script customization
Improvements can be made to OpenText Business Process Monitoring, especially since we have faced issues with protocol support and creating scripts in past implementations. Creating a proactive request requires a specific skill set, so a template for scripts that work across various protocols should be recommended. The dashboard of OpenText Business Process Monitoring is good enough, but in my operational environment, it is not sufficient. Therefore, I have had to customize everything beyond the package, utilizing Prometheus and Grafana to render more dashboards.

Pros

"This is definitely a good product and I would consider them one of the leaders within the application monitoring and cloud monitoring space."
"The solution is sufficiently stable."
"The most valuable aspect for us is to have everything in the same place."
"Dashboards are helpful for reviewing occasionally to get a higher-level overview of what's happening."
"Its logs are most valuable."
"Monitoring has been invaluable, and as we start to look to other products, bringing in logs and APM traces will create a full picture of what we need to do to resolve incidents."
"We have been impressed with the uptime and clean and light resource usage of the agents."
"Customizable views as well as the ability to "dive in" when we see someting anomalous has improved the workflow for handling incidents."
"The solution is very good at showing users ways to use a user action on a website and to see the performance."
"The tool team was sort of aware of those tools to deal with. And, that helped us to deliver the project on time."
"Product allows business analysts to create the application with very little software development time needed."
"Automates processes and allows reports and statistics to improve the speed at which changes and assets are managed."
"Ability to monitor multiple application protocols."
"The main benefits of using OpenText Business Process Monitoring for my company include anomaly detection and proactive analysis, which enhance our monitoring capabilities."
"What I find most valuable is that it has synthetic monitoring that you can run from different geographies and identify, as it’s more proactive monitoring than reactive monitoring, so it'll alert customers before they find out things are not working, and proactive monitoring is very helpful to most of our customers."
"The stability has been very good over the years."

Cons

"The pricing model can be quite complex and might benefit from more flexible options tailored to different organizational needs."
"Pricing seemed easy until the bill came in and some things were not accounted for."
"Their security features could be improved."
"I like the idea of monitoring on the go yet it seems the options are still a bit limited out of the box."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Pricing is somewhat affordable compared to other solutions but in order to really lower the costs of other products you need to plan very carefully your resources usage, otherwise, it can get expensive real quick."
"Pricing seemed easy until the bill came in and some things were not accounted for."
"Sometimes it's very hard to project how much it will cost for the monthly subscription for the next month when you add certain features. Having better visibility of the cost would give a better experience."
"Pricing and licensing are reasonable for what they give you. You get the first five hosts free, which is fun to play around with. Then it's about four dollars a month per host, which is very affordable for what you get out of it. We have a lot of hosts that we put a lot of custom metrics into, and every host gives you an allowance for the number of custom metrics."
"Datadog does not provide any free plans to use the solution. When I start with a proof of concept it would be sensible to have a free plan to test the tool and check whether it fits the requirements of the project. Before the production stage, it is always good to have a free plan with some limited features, number of requests, or logs."
"If you do your homework, you'll find that if you're really concerned with cost, it's good."
"The price of Datadog is reasonable. Other solutions are more expensive, such as AppDynamics."
"The price is better than some competing products."
"On a three-year license package, it was a good deal."
