ControlUp and Eggplant Test are two contenders in the IT monitoring and testing category. Based on the comparison, ControlUp holds an upper hand with its comprehensive integration, monitoring, and real-time analytical capabilities, while Eggplant Test is valued for its cross-platform automation and OCR technology.
Features: ControlUp offers robust endpoint monitoring, real-time insights, and effective automation features that provide end-to-end analysis through integrations. Its performance analysis and capacity planning capabilities deliver significant ROI. Eggplant Test is distinguished by its OCR technology and system-independent testing approach, facilitating rapid test development with flexible scripting for diverse environments.
Room for Improvement: ControlUp requires enhancements in its network monitoring capabilities and integration, as well as improvements in automation and reporting features. Eggplant Test could improve by integrating more vendor tools, enhancing support for non-linear event-driven processes, and improving image recognition and stability with legacy applications.
Ease of Deployment and Customer Service: ControlUp provides flexible deployment options, including hybrid cloud and on-premises, with effective customer support noted, despite some initial responsiveness issues. Eggplant Test supports primarily on-premises deployments and users recommend improvements in deployment ease and quicker onboarding with demonstration applications, though both solutions offer responsive support.
Pricing and ROI: ControlUp is competitively priced with a clear structure, offering notable ROI through efficient resource management despite reports of hidden charges. Eggplant Test is perceived as costly for smaller companies, justified by advanced features and stability, catering better to larger enterprises with ROI tied to its comprehensive support and performance capabilities.
This is having a 24/7 junior admin who's really smart, always there, always doing work, but you have to consume his work.
Basically, what we were targeting is the response time of the virtual environment.
I was quite happy to work with ControlUp because the support is excellent.
Basically, if I could take everything that you do, put it in a tool, and hand you that tool so you don't have to repeat your efforts, then you would be able to make good use of it.
I'm not impressed because it depends on the resolution of the screen, so I wouldn't highly recommend this tool.
Eggplant Test offers 24x7 support.
It scales very well; you just have to tell it what you're doing and size it for what you're asking.
There is area for improvement, maybe in the reporting.
For big problems and complex automation tasks, I would prefer UFT because it has more flexibility and is more effective.
The two-system architecture that we currently follow could be better replaced with a one-system architecture.
It is expensive.
Everything works exactly the way it's meant to, a dream come true for anyone who's administering systems because it gives you all the information that you want and all the actions you want to take, all in one place.
It's not only monitoring, but it's also detecting, and it could even fix problems with a lot of automation that you can put in place to fix problems automatically before you even detect them.
It can auto-heal the test cases and suggest new paths for testing, enhancing our ability to automate end-to-end journeys across various applications.
It can integrate with GitHub, allowing you to work with DevOps pipelines, so whenever you make changes in GitHub, it runs and checks the smoke testing on the server.

Reviews from Real Users
Below are some reviews and helpful feedback written by PeerSpot users currently using the ControlUp solution.
A Chair, IEEE Consumer Technology Society - Dallas,Texas, USA at a non-profit says, “In terms of the public cloud, ControlUp's features make us feel very secure. Security, uptime, and reduced capital expenditures are the main reasons we use ControlUp. So basically, the money that we consume is based on the amount of time we are using a service. ControlUp offers a return-on-investment type of approach that helps us.”
A VP Virtualisation and Citrix Engineer at BlackRock mentions, “Solve is quickly becoming one of the most-used features. Its interface allows us to connect to all 54,000 monitored endpoints in real-time. The script-based actions have allowed us to extend the core reporting capabilities. Combined with the triggers, we have been growing their usage to fix things before they become an issue. Lastly, the controller view allows us to compare the configurations of settings side-by-side which is extremely helpful when tracking down the RCA of an issue.”
A Senior Citrix Remote Access Engineer at Rabobank comments, “The high-level view of the estate coupled with powerful administration tools has been great. We can see real-time performance and trends and can create triggers for common issues with associated scripts that can automate a lot of the previous manual remediation steps.”
