We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Scripting and patch management are really important for us. Patch Manager is something that we use a lot, and we would love to have it continually improved. It is one of the most useful features for us for controlling patches and other things for different clients.""The initial setup is easy and the deployment is quick.""The implementation is nice and easy.""The database is great. It's a nicely ordered database.""Remote access and detailed monitoring help us support our equipment.""It is very scalable.""Maybe they could improve the capability to be multi-tenant.""It's definitely improved the help-desk servicing, et cetera."

"I like a lot of the reporting capabilities and baseline configurations.""Offers good patching.""The initial setup is fairly straightforward.""I have found the solution to be scalable. We have around 50,000 users using the solution.""The solution is highly scalable.""The technical support is good.""We are happy with the collaboration of SCCM with Patch My PC, which allows us to do patch work.""The ability to make collections and deploy to them has been great."

Cons
"Patching and reporting need improvements, especially reporting. The reporting engine is quite outdated, so you end up having to use your own dashboard.""The fixed client for Automate is slow. The web client is not very intuitive.""Scheduling of automation could be improved and made more simple.""The menu doesn't always load properly.""Technical support was helpful.""They could use some automated alerts particularly when we're talking about an MSP that might shoot over.""In Patch Manager, there should be more reportability so that it is easier to see the updates that I have applied to a machine and when the next update will happen. A lot of times, it seems like all the information is kind of thrown all over the place, and you can't really see it all at the same time. There should be a simplified patch data view that allows us to quickly confirm that our various clients are getting patched as they should be.""The project management needs improvement and there's a section of the product called configuration that also needs to be improved."

More ConnectWise Automate Cons →

"Could do with some cosmetic improvements on the user interface.""The assets have reached their end-of-life, and patching them is a complex and laborious task. It would be highly advantageous if there were an integrated solution that provided distinct options for each end-of-life asset, streamlining the process and facilitating comprehension.""The downside of Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager is it's an on-premise-based solution. With the pandemic coming on board the need to support users across the globe has increased. For a while, we would use the in-built Microsoft Teams screen sharing feature but the disadvantage of that is you cannot perform privileged access. Microsoft does not give you access to that. That's where you need cloud-based tools, such as BeyondTrust or Freshservice.""SCCM should strive to enhance the accuracy of its reporting functions in order to avoid any issues with incorrect or inaccurate data.""Built in PowerShell cmdlets would be a nice feature because managing clients remotely can be a pain without knowing the WMI calls to run.""The configuration of Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager could be improved, it is a bit complicated.""With Microsoft Premier Support, you get what you pay for. There's Third Tier Support that you pay for. If you pay for that, you get excellent support, and if you don't pay for that, then you get the less experienced staff.""The ability to integrate MDM would be great."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Pricing and licensing are reasonable."
  • "From what I've overheard, it is pretty comparable to other solutions in terms of price."
  • "I believe Automate is available for around $2."
  • "I pay $85 a month per user for a ConnectWise package that contains multiple solutions."

  • "Pricing and licensing are horrible. You have to not look at dollar value to use SCCM. It's super-duper expensive but it works. The acquisition cost is expensive, it's labor-intensive. But it works."
  • "Pricing and licensing are a downside of SCCM. It's expensive. I'd have to confirm this, but I think they changed the licensing to core-based instead of socket-based. It's not cheap, because you have to buy the software, you have to buy SQL. Another thing we learned from talking to Microsoft is that they provide you a license for SQL if you run it on the same box as the primary server. If you run it outside that box, you have to buy SQL. Microsoft does recommend you running it on the same box because of performance. But then, in order to run SQL, SCCM, and everything on the same box, you better have some resources. It's an expensive solution. There's no doubt about it."
  • "Overall, I think it's fine. It's pretty much in-line because there are ways to offset it with the Office 365 licensing."
  • "SCCM comes with its own version of SQL Server. If you use that SQL Server with SCCM and don't use it for another applications than you get an SQL Server for free."
  • "The licensing is good because they have various options, depending on what you are looking for."
  • "Pricing is negotiable with Microsoft, depending upon which of their packages you choose."
  • "When you compare this solution with other tools in the market you might actually find a lot of variation in the pricing and that's why people opt for the other tools rather than Microsoft tools."
  • "Its price is okay because it is part of our licensing."
