What is Oracle ATG?

Oracle ATG is an ecommerce solution that features out-of-the-box omnichannel experiences, makes it easy and fast to launch websites, provides scalable business-user control, and integrates well with other products. The platform helps businesses ensure relevant experiences to their customers at each touchpoint of a customer’s purchase journey (including the web, contact center, mobile devices, social media, physical stores, and more). Thich helps to increase sales and ensure a seamless buying experience. The solution can be implemented on premises or hosted by Oracle or a third party and it also runs on one of three application servers, including Oracle WebLogic, JBoss, or IBM WebSphere.

The UI might not be the fanciest, and since it's an older system, our customers are sometimes hesitant to invest in it. They're even considering moving to new e-commerce solutions, maybe even something custom-built in-house. It's quite basic and bland compared to today's modern web developments, which have enhanced user experiences. We're just providing support services to our customers, and they’ve been exploring a move to Oracle Commerce. However, there's some concern about Oracle Commerce's future, especially since support for version 11.3.2 is set to end in March 2025. We haven’t heard back from Oracle regarding any plans to extend support. We’re just keeping the lights on for now, but a transformation might be on the horizon. We have done some proof of concept with Oracle Commerce.

The merchandising tools in Oracle ATG are good but the only thing is if it is moving out from the BCC, then things get a bit difficult. Once you get used to it, Oracle ATG is a wonderful tool. Maintenance of the tool is not difficult because it is a scalable solution. However, it might not be suitable for small businesses or mid-sized businesses. It may be suitable for some mid-sized to large businesses. Speaking about the integration capabilities of the product, I would say that compared to the latest applications or app-based applications, which are there in the market as of now, what I understand is that the microservice-based application is much easier and faster for the integrations compared to Oracle ATG. The tool's integration capabilities don't pull it down because, in the product, the APIs are exposed for the integrations. Everything can be built on top of the product. I don't understand why my people talk about AI in every solution, but I know that when enterprise-level customers want to work with it, they don't want to invest. Some might have a few use cases associated with AI. Though many people talk about AI, not many are implementing AI chatbots or AI voice assistants for their businesses. The people are not implementing anything big with AI. We can certainly have AI for anything, for that matter. Oracle ATG intrinsically will not give users any AI features. I rate the overall tool an eight out of ten.

One drawback is that the tool could be more agile in adding new features. Since the product is very big, new features aren't added continuously. However, it already meets most of our requirements for day-to-day use. A feature that could be improved is the ease of integrating various systems. We currently use it as a standalone solution and integrate it with other systems. A better way to integrate with newer systems, especially mobile apps, could exist. I think the compression technology could be improved even more, and it would be helpful if the software could integrate directly with certain applications.
