Look for integrated components that do not need or minimize development. (Web, App and Database servers)
UI/UX: What is the LOE to adopt either your existing design or a new one? Does it support Responsive Design?
OMS: Can the OMS readily integrate with your existing backoffice ERP to enable end to end Order Management?
CMS, PCM (for catalogs) can it support the variety of attributes that your product lines have?
Integration/Extensibility: Can it access and integrate exiting DAMs or other data and image repositories? What's the LOE on the initial Master Data loads? Can it automate jobs that sync Master Data (product, pricing, etc) repositories with the platform database?
Does it come with APIs and support for Web Services in order to facilitate integration with 3rd party applications?
All this with an eye on the development LOE both within the platform and in integration.

Salesforce commerce cloud is the best eCommerce platform for giant brands.
It provides end-to-end order fulfillment solutions + third-party integrations that are very easy and customizable via the JavaScript backend.
There are several good ecommerce platforms. In my opinion, the top one is SAP Hybris Commerce, and here’s why:
For starters, SAP Hybris Commerce is ranked on PeerSpot as the #1 best ecommerce platform, with a rating of 8 out of 10. The product is designed to help you innovate while optimizing profitability and your customers’ experience.
With SAP Hybris Commerce, you can adopt new business models and customer touch points quickly. The solution also allows you to simplify processes and reduce risk from your e-commerce strategy. Whatsmore, it enables you to deliver profitable outcomes by tapping into data-driven insights and it also helps you convert employees into trusted advisors.
One of the solution’s best features is its powerful search capabilities, which helps you promote the right products so you can help your customers easily find what they are looking for. Another feature I find really useful is the flexible built-in promotion, which enables you to drive your sales and conversions.
In addition, SAP Hybris Commerce has really good plug-and-play integration, allowing you to deliver a scalable shopping cart and checkout experience with payment services and tax management. Not only that, but the solution offers a decoupled JavaScript storefront to create engaging progressive Web app (PWA) storefronts so you can make sure your customers have the best experience regardless of which device they are using or what location they are accessing the store from.
Beyond the aforementioned features, the solution has other feature-rich advantages, such as product content management. SAP Hybris Commerce consolidates and publishes all your product data and product catalogs for consumption on the digital commerce platform. Because it has built-in validation and workflow review and approval, bulk-edit, and mass-upload capabilities, it helps you enhance product content quality. In addition, it has user-friendly management interfaces, which make edits easy and fast. Moreover, it supports multilingual catalogs for a global commerce site, if that is something you require.
I also like SAP Hybris Commerce because it offers good experience management. For example, it has intuitive website editing because it works with a WYSIWYG website editing tool, which simplifies storefront management. It also offers seamless promotions, so you can design and deploy promotional campaigns with ease. On top of that, it gives you the ability to access natively integrated intelligent selling services for adding recommendations and merchandising components.
If your ecommerce platform requires you to heavily depend on order management, SAP Hybris Commerce is the right choice. One of the best things about the solution is that it enables customers to fulfill orders and make returns anywhere, anytime, so you can provide an optimal buying experience for your customers and also meet your customers’ other needs. It offers endless-aisle fulfillment that includes buy-anywhere and pickup-anywhere capabilities. It also makes the return process simple with omnichannel and self-service capabilities. And, if you need to provide inventory visibility within your storefront, you will have complete stock transparency for your customers. Lastly, it has effective sourcing and allocation so you can define sourcing and allocation rules for warehouses and physical shop networks, which, in turn, helps boost efficiency and reduce delivery time.
If you plan on selling any goods or services, it’s in your best interest to do so through an ecommerce platform.
Two of the biggest advantages of using an ecommerce platform are that they are easy to use and extension-friendly. There are many platforms that are easy to set up and offer most of the mechanisms you will need. Since these systems are fairly popular, you can expect a lot of solutions to common issues or any other problems that may come up. Regarding extensions, most ecommerce platforms include some sort of extensions, add-ons or modules – mechanisms that allow you to add functionalities by simply installing a plugin. This may mean something as simple as a widget in a sidebar, or a more advanced feature, for example connecting with your payment provider.
Ecommerce platforms are also good because they enable you to take ownership of your brand and protect it from platform rules and suspension, even as those platforms change. An ecommerce platform allows you to have full control over your brand, and customers can rest assured that they are buying from a true seller as opposed to purchasing from a third party. By using your own ecommerce platform, you also solidify your own customer base because you have a concrete, well-defined, and focused online presence to direct customers to.
Another benefit of having an ecommerce platform is that it provides an omni-channel experience with reduced risk. Moving your ecommerce business multi-channel helps you spread risk around, so if something goes wrong, your business is still protected and you are still generating revenue. Owning your store opens up multiple touchpoints for customers to reach your business.
Using an ecommerce platform to sell your goods or services also encourages growth. Since selling from your own website gives you more opportunities to create new customer touchpoints, it leads to repeat business. And repeat sales lead to more company growth.
On a more logistical level, an ecommerce platform makes it easy to sign customers up via email for repeat contact, to encourage customer engagement, to connect and offer value through content, and to market a branded line of products to stimulate repeat sales. In addition, with an ecommerce platform, you can use things like package inserts and coupons to drive sales. Essentially, an ecommerce platform offers tactics to help you maintain contact with customers, whereas a third party seller oftentimes won’t allow for that.
A good ecommerce platform will be easy to administrate. Moreover, a well-developed and well-designed platform will be easy for both you and your customers to use, making their experience as pleasant as possible. Whatsmore is if you choose a platform that’s functioning at a higher level, you’ll see a major boost in your site’s performance. For example, your customers won’t be motivated to take their business elsewhere if they have a smooth customer experience. Not only that, but you will have less down time and you won’t have to expend your time troubleshooting problems with your platform.
Another thing that’s helpful about ecommerce platforms is that they offer their own security. With good security, your clients’ information is protected, ensuring that they will continue to shop safely. As you can see, using an ecommerce platform to sell your goods or services is definitely a worthwhile investment.
