Has helped detect server failures in real time and improved incident response through clear dashboards
When I use PRTG Network Monitor, it shows which servers go down or crash, displaying real-time reports and related information. We have configured PRTG Network Monitor to trigger an alert if any sensor or server goes down for more than five minutes. PRTG Network Monitor shows cause and effect clearly. For example, when our internet link failed, it displayed which dependent services were impacted. The feature in PRTG Network Monitor improved communication within my team since everyone can see the same dashboard. It saves me from constant manual checks as everything I care about is automatically tracked. PRTG Network Monitor has positively impacted my organization because it shows cause and effect clearly. We can see the real-time dashboard and take immediate action based on that. PRTG Network Monitor helped us detect the failing RAID controller before it completely collapsed, allowing us to avoid potential data loss.

Provides a good view of the sequence and offers in-depth visibility into my infrastructure
I needed to identify the sequence and frequency of system calls for a specific system. Sysdig provided this information readily. However, analyzing frequency proved more challenging. As far as I know, Sysdig Monitor lacks functionality to directly obtain system call frequency for certain files. Therefore, I had to capture a screenshot of the relevant data from Sysdig Monitor and then manually extract the text. A built-in Sysdig feature to retrieve system call frequency for specific website actions would greatly enhance its usefulness. I had difficulty installing Sysdig Monitor on Windows.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The product is easy to use and the web interface is fantastic."
"It is easy to use and intuitive, which is really important. It does what it says on the box by giving you a visual of the state of what is going on at any one time."
"It is a central solution in terms of how to actually use it. It has a very easy dashboard. Everything is concise. We are able to create custom sensors. For different parts of the business, we have many products across many environments, and it works for everything."
"The Slack integration is fantastic, and I've actually found it to be very useful recently."
"PRTG Network Monitor's best features are its flexibility, ease of implementation, user-friendliness, and intuitive interfaces."
"The network visualization helps us to drill down deeper."
"The reporting module is easy to configure."
"I think net flow is PRTG's most valuable feature because it doesn't cost much for us because the net flow sensor is already included in the PRTG license. We can monitor our traffic in our proxy and router."
"Docker containers are completely supported, kind of like "first class citizens"."
"The ability to stop/pause and capture logs when something happens is the most valuable feature."
"Sysdig Monitor impressed me with its in-depth visibility into my infrastructure."

Cons

"If PRTG could help me see the bandwidth for each host I have on my network, either for a wireless or a wired network, that would be very helpful."
"PRTG Network Monitor could improve by having a feature to allow uploading of preset standard network switch configurations and the ability to monitor the SLA configuration, such as uptime for the switches or internet connectivity. This would be very useful."
"The desktop app is the one area where it do with some improvement. From a user's perspective, I would like to be able to get more out of the desktop app as opposed to where we are now with it."
"Having a Unix implementation or Unix installation could be an improvement. Right now, it's based just on Windows, and that's a problem for some customers."
"When using PRTG Network Monitor it is beneficial if you have prior experience with it, the user interface could improve."
"PRTG could use reporting tools and mobile alert tools. It should be easier to diagnose and respond to problems from a mobile device on the go."
"Users need to buy the more expensive licenses if they expect to be able to scale."
"I've encountered a challenge in my functions, particularly in adding and printing."
""Events" reporting (errors, crashes, etc.) is not clear at all in a Mesos environment (i.e., it's not clear what specific container is the one that went down). In a Docker Compose environment, it may be way better."
"I had difficulty installing Sysdig Monitor on Windows."
"It is needs to automate the actions to take when an alert is triggered."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The ability to use the base version with 100 free sensors is great. The cost on other packages can be very reasonable."
"Right now, the smallest sensor pack that they have is just a bit out of range for me, as a business. This kills me, as I need the product. Therefore, there is always a balance between needing to buy it or continuing their free version."
"It is about £4,500 for the first year, then about another 15 to 20 percent annually after that. So, we are looking at about £1000 running costs a year. When you think about how much an outage costs per minute, it's negligible."
"We've got 1,000 nodes and I believe it's a few hundred quid a month."
"The price of PRTG is reasonable. PRTG's competitors like SolarWinds and ManageEngine charge more for the same functionality."
"While I am not the person who deals with pricing, I would say that we pay around 1000 pounds a year."
"I rate the price of PRTG Network Monitor an eight on a scale of one to ten, where one is a high price, and ten is a low price."
"We have an unlimited perpetual license, so we just pay support costs and it can scale throughout the organization."
"Sysdig Monitor is not expensive."
