Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The monitoring so far has been good and we are happy with it.""Working with the solution is very easy. It's user-friendly.""The breakdown of the response time of different components and getting in-depth details of the slow component are the most valuable features. It is easy to use, and it gets the job done.""The stability of New Relic APM is very good.""The most valuable feature is the ability to receive in-depth information about applications. It can detect a lot of important information.""We appreciate the way that this solution allows us to monitor the ongoing status of the UI at any given time.""We like the performance of the product.""The simplicity of the dashboard is very good."

"The 13cR2 updates to the OEM family, strongly integrate Cloud (off-site, hybrid and on-premise) services providing a seamless way to see all of your resources regardless of where they are deployed.""It's a useful feature to be able to see the top SQL, the number of executions, the CPU, and the resources that it's using.""The product gives us as much control as we can have by providing a complete picture of the whole set of Oracle products.""The tried and tested services that Oracle provides is second to none.""This solution allows us to quickly drill down when there are issues.""The most valuable features of Oracle Enterprise Manager are the data guide and online monitoring.""SQL Tuning Advisor, ADDM, Top Activity, ASM Space Manager, Incident Notifications""I like that it's stable."

Cons
"New Relic APM could improve error debugging and the correlation with the logs. We are receiving some alerts or alarms but we need to correlate with the error log, but it is difficult if it is more than seven months retention period, it is hard to trace. We need this especially for getting historical information.""The older view is much better than the new view that they have. We'd like to go back to that previous version. The user interface just isn't as nice as it used to be.""I haven't come across any features that are lacking.""We would like a dashboard feature to be created for this product. This would allow us to monitor both the front and back-end of our UIs performance, and then report on it.""The solution is quite expensive.""How granular I could go down at looking at certain data, especially related to the operations, is limited.""There has been some problem with the agent, and it is just not working well. It is not able to record information with the application server. They have been able to fix the issue, but it took quite a long time. This is the main issue in the APM products and also in New Relic. The mobile application monitoring has been pretty difficult to set up and also quite expensive. It should be a little bit easier and cheaper. Because it is pretty difficult and expensive, many customers don't take it.""It would be nice if there were pre-made dashboards."

More New Relic APM Cons →

"Oracle Enterprise Manager could improve the monitoring types and the graphics.""The product is pretty comprehensive, but quite resource hungry. This might be due to the majority of the application seemingly being written in Java.""The interface could be more friendly for basic users.""Patching. It's extremely difficult to determine what requires patching and the process to patch each component is slightly different.""The solution has a very large resource system. It's too big. There are too many items.""Reporting and statistical charting is largely still left up the end-user to develop custom solutions.""The solution is considered expensive.""Technical support could be faster."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The price was one of the reasons we chose this solution."
  • "I think the pricing is reasonable."
  • "The price of the solution could be less expensive. You have to pay a lot for each user. There is an additional cost for extra features."
  • "This is an expensive tool."
  • "The price of New Relic APM could be less expensive. We are using the New Relic APM pro account and it is more costly. When compared to competitors the solution's pricing should be much more realistic."
  • "If I remember it correctly, the pricing was based on the core, and the monthly subscription used to cost us $1,500 or $2,000. We had pre-prod and production services. Costing was different for pre-prod and production. For pre-prod, it was 40% less than the production service cost. It was a combined package."

  • "The solution is inexpensive to purchase."
  • "It's expensive."
  • "The licensing is the responsibility of our customers."
  • "There are a few bugs with the software which require opening SRs with Oracle Support which contribute to the day-to-day cost. Perhaps 8 hours per month is spent dealing with support, just as a rough guess."

    Reviews from Real Users

Oracle Enterprise Manager stands out among its competitors for a number of reasons. Several major ones are its central management and monitoring and its reporting capabilities

Robin C., head of Oracle Exadata Centre of Excellence at Tata Consultancy Services, writes, "The database performance monitoring features are very useful and allow us to quickly zero in on DB-related issues. Exadata storage server and Infiniband switches can be viewed from the GUI in OEM which cannot be done in other tools. The ability to deploy metric extensions makes this tool extensible for our custom monitoring also."

PeerSpot users note the effectiveness of these features. A database manager at a tech services company notes, “The solution's most valuable aspect is the fact that it is embedded with the Oracle database and Oracle's engineering system, its extra data, and analytics.  They have plug-ins that are very helpful. Due to the infrastructure's size, the introduction they offer is very, very useful. It helps with an overall understanding of the product. They have a very nice graphical user interface. The monitoring is good. We can capture the SQL tune from us. With Oracle Enterprise Managers, we can see the rich performance tuning.”
