Locating equipment within facilities is now straightforward and efficient
We mainly use Meraki Location Analytics to locate equipment within our manufacturing facilities. We're not a public-facing organization, so our use case involves finding devices like printers or scanners that need maintenance The best aspect of Meraki Location Analytics is its ease of use.…

Reporting on insurance finances has become robust and supports detailed geo-spatial analysis
I am quite satisfied with the reporting part of the product. However, compared to other tools, the modeling part is not as strong. Data modeling is not as easy on MicroStrategy as it is on other platforms. I have worked with the administration tool and the Architect tool for MicroStrategy, but creating a star schema is not as easy compared to other tools. Creating hierarchies and the modeling part is challenging because data modeling is one of the most important aspects of any BI project. If you can create a star schema or Snowflake schema easily, then report building becomes straightforward. Additionally, MicroStrategy's Workstation tool compared to Developer still lacks some functionality that can be done more easily on the Developer side. Workstation is a great tool, but they have not given it full functionality.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Technical support has always been very good."
"I like Location Analytics' geofencing features for devices. You can manage thousands of devices with just a push of a button and deploy applications in seconds. For example, in schools, you can deploy an app update for thousands of iPads in just two clicks."
"The stability of the solution is excellent, and I would rate it a ten out of ten."
"I use Location Analytics to identify rogue hotspots and find the last location of missing devices."
"In general, it is helpful because it allows administrators to see where the Wi-Fi and network services are being most used."
"The pricing and licensing for Meraki are good, and I would rate it as a nine out of ten."
"If you can afford this solution, it's worth every dime in terms of what you get out of it."
"The initial setup process is easy."
"Today, management can focus on analyzing the numbers and also exploring other avenues of improvement using the self-serve features."
"We use MicroStrategy to create dashboards and reports for our top management."
"MicroStrategy can read data from a wide variety of different DBMS and web services, producing optimized SQL code for each of them."
"This is definitely a solution worth investing in."
"It improved a lot because coming from using Excel files, then using Oracle OBIEE, there is more flexibility now."
"I found the ability to create self-reports very valuable."
"I really like the visualizations. I like how you can put large data sets in there, then the user can quickly go through the data and drill down at various levels to understand things."
"The tool I find the most valuable is MicroStrategy Architect."

Cons

"The technical support before implementation could be better for premium partners."
"The pricing is a pain point for us. It's a bit expensive."
"My biggest complaint with Meraki Location Analytics is the lack of visibility into the back end. Everything we do is through a customer GUI, and there's limited access to CLI functions."
"I would like to see all of the features included in a single package."
"The biggest issue is negotiating the price with a client. That's the most complicated part, but the product is worth it."
"There are no specific areas for improvement as everything is working very well."
"They need to improve on having more professional, well-equipped premium support."
"To be honest, I regret using MSTR; I think I should have gone with Tablo instead."
"I rate technical support 1.5/5 because they hardly ever help you with problems and when they do it's very late."
"The learning curve is quite steep."
"I am not really a great fan of tech support, because my project's issues didn't get solved or the response was not quick."
"Support: The support line used to be top notch, but now it seems as though the people manning that line are not very knowledgeable and can very rarely actually answer the question or solve the problem."
"Developer: Simplify BI modelling features to increase learning curve and user adoption."
"I think that there are some bugs regarding the design, and some features are a little hidden from the developer."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The product is less expensive compared to other vendors for gold partners."
"They have different tiers of pricing including one-year, three-year, five-year, seven-year, and ten-year."
"They gave us a good deal."
"The price was good. We have had great support along the way."
"The licensing is a bit high per user."
"They offer yearly as well as perpetual licenses."
"The pricing list itself is not publicly accessible, so it's a bit opaque."
"Now, the price is high."
"While initial cost of MicroStrategy is still on the higher side, the long-term benefits brings down overall cost of ownership significantly as compared to other tools like Tableau/Cognos."
"The pricing is fair."
