Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The solution includes good and fast notifications for other project team members.""The solution is very powerful and the underlying structure of it is well done. The company behind the solution is very open as far as their whole ecosystem is concerned. They also do a lot of work in the training area.""I think the solution's most important and valuable feature is its ability to track the issues.""The product makes it easy to collaborate even though it can use some improvement in that area.""The solution is stable and reliable.""The solution's tracking capabilities helped ensure we had full visibility into planned work and scheduled work.""The initial setup is simple.""With JIRA, you can do amazing things by developing connectors, embedding features, and adding new fields to create new things."

"I like the automated calculations, especially on the resource side. When project managers enter their resource requirements into their staffing profiles, they are automatically translated into labor forecast calculations. PPM automates a significant portion of the forecast calculations. Timesheets are also built-in. We automatically process time sheets and bill them accordingly.""There are so many different pieces of functionality, and we use almost every single piece from deployment to demand, project, resource, and time management.""Scenario comparison is the feature most valuable to us and the reason why we decided to choose HPE PPM over other portfolio management products.""Recent Program Management lifecycle, Program Management aggregation views due to interactive UI (selection of risks, issues, and changes in Program Overview) and “flash look & feel" of this functional chunk, which is different in comparison to other parts of HPE PPM.""The data provided by PPM is trusted and is available almost immediately; without trusted data there is very less scope of any tool to be successful.""The portfolio management and the resource management are the key features.""It is very important that the platform gives us a single place where we can measure progress toward goals, as we have weekly meetings with the CTO. We present these consolidated overviews and dashboards to him so that he has an overview of all the projects and can see the status of all the problems that we have and we are working on.""It's a very detailed tool. As far as an enterprise is concerned, it gives you the flexibility to manage everything: portfolios, projects, finances, proposals, resources, and time... It takes care of even the minor details that need to be captured. The project management functionality is configured really well within the tool. That stands out."

Cons
"The workflow needs improvement.""It's got kind of a steep learning curve.""Requires some effort to insert functionalities and that could be simplified.""Their interface is a little unique and I think that's partly because the core of the product has morphed into several sub-products, but the underlying architecture has stayed the same on all of them in that it was originally a help desk ticketing system. It's a very tech-focused product and that's fair given its origins, but if they really want to expand their community of users, then they're going to have to move beyond that a little bit and polish it up.""The team-centric view is slightly weaker in JIRA compared to its competitors, especially considering how I can evaluate how each resource has been placed, not just in one project but across JIRA.""JIra is very poor at reporting.""Portfolio is easy to scale, but we've had some difficulties with it regarding compliance and support.""The query features should improve in JIRA Portfolio. For example, if I would have to create my own queries for looking into something such as what business features we have released last month, or the last three months, I don't know if I can do it. The solution requires a certain level of expertise."

More JIRA Portfolio Cons →

"The solution can sometimes be a little inflexible and a bit caustic.""I was not involved in the initial setup. I know that the project involved a lot of consulting that took a long time.""We had a couple of issues with stability or performance degradation about a year ago, around the time of the initial rollout. Since then, we've only had two unexpected outages that were quickly resolved.""Micro Focus PPM should be less dependent on coding. It could also benefit from some updates to the software architecture. These have been on the roadmap for years now, but they haven't been released.""Portfolio scenarios: This is a very powerful feature. However, it’s limited to analyses.""I would also like to see improvement in PPM's reporting and alerts. PPM has reporting capabilities, including HTML reports and portlets. But a majority of clients will build their own reporting platforms, or they will use external reporting platforms like Tableau and QlikView.""Currently, HPE PPM does not allow “Project” approval, but only simple “Demand Request” approval (mobility).""The user interface is very, very old and is missing some functions, such as, for example, re-do, follow, and share functions. The UI is not good."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "This solution has a comparable pricing in comparison to other similar products on the market."
  • "The pricing of the solution is expensive."
  • "We only have nine people using it so we have a standard cost of $150 dollar per year. There are only additional costs if you exceed the limit of users, then you start paying by user. The cost is significantly higher."
  • "The pricing continues to get higher."
  • "The product is really not very expensive."
  • "We pay our fees annually, although monthly payments are also available."
  • "The price could be improved."
  • "We have a license to use JIRA Portfolio, we are not using the free version."

  • "Support and license management are two hurdles for us. Every time we purchase new licenses, it has taken us half a year to implement those."
  • "It is SaaS without a base fee."
  • "HPE PPM SaaS model is comprehensive, however, the base fee component has customer resistance to its recurring setup,"
  • "Now, we also received an increase in the support license prices, without any advanced notice. At this point, switching to unify all our licensing under HPE and customer support has been poor."
  • "We have an annual license, and it is fairly priced in comparison to that of other solutions."
  • "A large organization will find Micro Focus PPM affordable, but it may be a bit costly for a small or medium-sized company. The license is based on the number of users."

    Overview

Jira Portfolio is an agile roadmapping tool designed to help teams build plans, envision the big picture, track progress, and share the process with stakeholders.

Jira Portfolio is planned based. A plan in Portfolio is a complete view of the tasks, teams, and release dates for your Jira projects.

Once you start to create a plan, there are three main factors you need to define:

    • Scope: A list of tasks that need to be carried out in order to complete the plan.
    • Teams: Who will be implementing the work? With the correct data in place, Portfolio can estimate how long it will take for the team to complete their tasks.
    • Releases: Your scheduled release date.

With Jira Portfolio, you can create a visual timeline to gain visibility across each of your teams and projects in a single place from a granular level and review cross-team and cross-project dependencies to prevent bottlenecks. This visibility can help you plan realistic release dates and manage your team’s capacity. The solution allows you to try out different scenarios with your roadmap and resources to help guide your decision making. Once you have a solid plan, you can easily integrate with Jira Software and commit your changes.

Jira Portfolio allows managers to easily add team members. The tool’s powerful scheduling algorithm assigns tasks to teams while taking priorities and dependencies into account so it can create a realistic forecast for project completion.

    Jira Portfolio Benefits

Some of the top benefits of using Jira Portfolio include:

    • Roadmaps and roadmaps dependencies: Roadmaps list details about the tasks that need to be executed in order to complete a project, as well as predictions for when they will be completed, which teams are in charge of the task, and a list of resources they require. By setting dependencies on your team’s roadmaps, unnecessary bottlenecks are avoided.
    • Integration with Jira: Jira Portfolio is dynamically integrated with your Jira Software project data and constantly pulls your latest data from Jira Software, allowing you to plan your projects with updated information.
    • Envision scenarios: Create what-if scenarios and save them to Jira if you decide to adopt them.
    • Reporting: Share capacity reports and more to allow team members and stakeholders to gain visibility and insights into the process.
    • Task completion estimation methods: Estimate how long a specific task will take and compare these estimations with the actual time to completion to help assess team performance and efficiency and improve the accuracy of estimation calculations over time.

    Reviews from Real Users

Jira Portfolio stands out among its competitors for a number of reasons. Two major ones are its roadmap creation tools and its flexibility.

Meeta L., a lead product manager at a tech vendor, says, “The valuable features of the JIRA Portfolio are the customization it provides which is very useful and the Agile project management capability.”

Juan P., a senior IT project manager at Avantica, writes, “Portfolio helps us increase the visibility of projects' status and management with remote workers who make up most of the company.”

OpenText Project and Portfolio Management (PPM) combines workflows and data to align investments with strategy. Top-down and bottom-up analytics power this strategic portfolio and project management tool.
