Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The ability for us to manage all of our nodes from the same console makes systems administration very easy.""In the three years that we have been using StarWind, the product has yet to cause us any problems.""Support keeps track of alerts of the system and verifies with us if we need help to fix any issues. They have great and quick technical support.""A great feature is that I basically set it and forget it, as everything is automatic.""Starwind made it easy to deploy fully redundant, highly available storage at a low cost.""Virtual SAN runs on iSCSI, which is free and easy to configure. It's easy to manage from StarWind's GUI console, and it only required a few extra switch ports.""The fact that the solution is vendor-agnostic allows it to be used with any virtualization vendor while remaining a powerful abstraction over storage.""VSAN works great; it's very easy to install, configure, and manage."

"The solution is useful for taking storage snapshots, has high performance, and the CASL architecture is good for optimizing workloads.""HPE Nimble Storage dHCI is stable.""We have this feature in Nimble dHCI, wherein we can upgrade individual components in the infrastructure.""The nice thing about it is that it truly integrates with the cloud, so I can move my volumes bi-directionally in and out of the cloud.""We have the ability to increase the storage without any additional costs.""So far, the solution's performance is very good.""Nimble Storage is a capable platform with high availability.""HPE's InfoSight software, which does the comparative analysis and artificial intelligence built-in in the box, and with Nimble they do well against the competition. Additionally, the dashboards are good."

"Nutanix has the best virtual desktop infrastructure.""It's quite easy to scale, and you have the option to have distributed nodes everywhere around the world that work as one. You can also have a solution for small branch offices with only two nodes for redundancy, and that's good enough to start.""This is a complete, very user-friendly product.""The flexibility of this system is very good. It's also faster than others, and has skilled technical support who showed more initiative than a competitor, e.g. VMware.""Performing a Nutanix software upgrade is a very simple and non-disruptive process.""The pricing is pretty good.""The solution is well integrated with other vendors.""There are a lot of features in Nutanix that are different from other hyper-converged solutions, such as site-to-site replication. VM-based site-to-site replication is bundled with the software licensing. For the DR, it has the availability groups, which is one of the key features that Nutanix provides."

Cons
"I would like to see more user-friendly dashboards in future versions.""The main issue we ran into was the documentation. We attempted to set up the product in our test environment by ourselves and ran into several areas of the documentation that were unclear to us.""Having more support plan options would be nice.""Perhaps more reporting features on the utilization, usage, and performance of the configured high-availability images and underlying physical disks would be helpful.""It would help if the manufacturer provided clearer and more detailed documentation, with explanations of how the application can be installed in various HA configurations.""Updating the software can be a bit tricky.""It would be nice to see a new UI for the windows client, as it is not the easiest to find settings.""I would like an automated installation/configuration despite the fact that their service is very collaborative, a customer should be able to deploy the solution by themselves."

More StarWind Virtual SAN Cons →

"HPE Nimble Storage dHCI currently is promoting only VMware as a hypervisor, whereas if they can look into other OSs, such as KVM or Red Hat, it would be an improvement.""This year 2022, we have the possibility to include new kinds of storage with a high disk availability, such as Alletra 6000 and Alletra 9000. Those are the new storage available. If we would like to improve the quality and the capability and the high availability of these products, we can choose between different costs. This is another benefit from this HPE Nimble Storage dHCI solution of hyper-converged.""The solution could improve by providing better file-level restoration and DVX system options.""Nimble Storage's integration with the management software could be better.""Cost-wise, this solution is slightly more expensive than other hyperconverged solutions.""The performance of HPE Nimble Storage dHCI could improve. Other solutions, such as Cisco, are better.""Their documentation needs to be simpler to read yet more detailed so it's easy to compare models and easier for clients to pick.""I'm not sure if there are features lacking."

More HPE Nimble Storage dHCI Cons →

"The scalability of Nutanix Acropolis AOS needs improvement.""We would like to see a cloud version of Acropolis AOS. Currently, we're trying to implement an AWS environment for some solutions, but we would like to use another technology also to enhance our organization, so we are looking for another technology for this, especially a cloud solution.""I would enjoy an advanced mode where experienced users can leverage their knowledge to do advanced things currently only allowed using the command line tools on the CVM.""As of now, Acropolis and VMware cannot talk to each other. Until we have some kind of interface, it would be much better for Nutanix if they built an interface that can talk. Otherwise, if I have a VMware stack and I already have a Nutanix stack, I can create containers, I create clusters on VMware, I create clusters on Nutanix.""Areas for improvement would be the memory setting and the CPU setting reserve features, which are not available on Acropolis. I also feel that the DR solution, the reporting, and the component that is combined with the Nutanix OSP need to be improved.""Nutanix could streamline Acropolis' advanced management to keep pace with its competitors. For example, in VMware vSphere ESXi Hypervisor, you can directly put a host into maintenance mode via the GUI. However, it takes several steps to do this with Nutanix Acropolis, and you need to use the command-line interface for most of the steps.""The ability to create clusters faster would be nice to see in a future release.""Deployment could be more user-friendly - currently, it requires certain skills with the network and nodes."

    Overview

For SMB, ROBO, Cloud and Hosting providers, who look to cut down virtualization expenses, our solution is StarWind VSAN. It is software that eliminates any need in physical shared storage by basically “mirroring” internal hard disks and flash between hypervisor servers. There is less hardware to buy in general, consequently less money is spent on purchase and maintenance. The existing hardware is used with maximum efficiency, so there is no money wasted at all.

StarWind Virtual SAN targets those who already have servers, or are bound to a particular vendor list to buy from. In case there is a new virtualization infrastructure to be built from scratch, StarWind offers a much better way – StarWind HyperConverged Appliance. It is a turnkey solution complete with hardware and software, powered by StarWind Virtual SAN. Those who need to build and maintain virtualization infrastructure at little to no expense, may be interested in StarWind Virtual SAN Free.
