We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Using our own choice of HW allowed us to price our service to answer our customers' needs.""It has allowed us to save a lot of time and money by letting us create a vSAN within a Windows VM on the environment it controls.""The best part is the easy way it operates with a very clear GUI without any unnecessary items.""Updates to server hardware are now painless and done during working hours with zero stress. We had a RAID failure a few months back, and nobody in the building even noticed and there was no after hours time used for repair.""It has reduced our overall maintenance and overhead by having to only maintain physical boxes for one cluster instead of having to manage physical boxes for two clusters.""The configuration is so much simpler than that of a traditional SAN with fewer points of failure to worry about.""Support keeps track of alerts of the system and verifies with us if we need help to fix any issues. They have great and quick technical support.""StarWind allowed us to deploy highly available shared storage within our budget."

"HPE's InfoSight software, which does the comparative analysis and artificial intelligence built-in in the box, and with Nimble they do well against the competition. Additionally, the dashboards are good.""Artificial intelligence is built into the product. If there's a failure, HP support will proactively call the client about the issue.""Simply being able to move objects and the duplication feature have been quite effective.""Nimble DHCI is really user friendly and not complex""I love InfoSite. That gets you a lot of good detailed information.""With regards to performance, configuration, and longevity it is upgradeable, which means it has a good TCO rate. These are valuable aspects to me.""HPE Nimble Storage dHCI's user interface is very easy to work with.""The nice thing about it is that it truly integrates with the cloud, so I can move my volumes bi-directionally in and out of the cloud."

"We find the setup quite straightforward and very easy.""Installation is straightforward because it's a vSAN. It only took one or two days.""Lenovo ThinkAgile VX Series' deployment is easy. We are a tier-one platinum partner who is into multiple implementations.""The VX machines are scalable."

Cons
"Though I have learned some of the nuances with the upgrading of firmware/windows/etc., it would be nice to have a more efficient method of doing so.""It is not very clear within the StarWind Management Console or the StarWind support documentation how to perform maintenance on a single node in a two-node HA cluster.""I struggled when bit figuring out how to go about doing the evaluation.""I would like to see different levels of support offered.""I wish there was online support because email return takes a long time and a faster solution should be found.""Some configuration options still demand service restarting.""It would be good to have a little more access to control certain aspects within the UI.""The only point they should improve is the amount of documentation available for the user, especially in the first preliminary phase in which we were testing the product on our own."

More StarWind Virtual SAN Cons →

"HPE Nimble Storage dHCI's website does not open properly or work consistently.""Their documentation needs to be simpler to read yet more detailed so it's easy to compare models and easier for clients to pick.""The only issue I'm really running into is we have a SQL server that we're having a lot of high IO latency on one of my drives and it's my data drive from my SQL server. It's not really giving me any good information as to where that latency is coming from, so that's what I'm trying to track down and troubleshoot.""The product’s performance needs improvement. It could also help with more environment monitoring and AI technologies to improve the performance and thresholds.""Software upgrade is still more complicated than the competitors, so that's an area of improvement.""The solution must be hypervisor-agnostic.""I rate Nimble one out of 10 for ease of setup. Setting up Nimble Storage was a nightmare. It took us three months to deal with all the kinks and bugs. We had two people from HPE assisting us and two from our team.""The initial setup is a little bit complicated."

More HPE Alletra dHCI Cons →

"Lenovo ThinkAgile VX Series needs to improve its stability. Its resolution should be faster.""Support could be better.""The user management could be a bit better. It's something they could improve upon in future releases.""With the VX machines, the clients often confuse the hardware itself with the services and resources. VMs are configured according to resources - memory, hard disk capacity, and network. These resources, including memory and processor, are actually shared on the VX Series. So, if the server's processor is underpowered or unreliable for the VMs, many of the VMs will encounter issues. Ideally, the physical server configuration should align more closely with the needs of the virtual servers."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The setup cost is very low. The pricing is great."
  • "We are happy with the price."
  • "The license is reusable. We can always rebuild it and apply the license. Then, boom, we get new servers, apply the license, and we're back up and running."
  • "The pricing is fine for the work that it does."
  • "When we did all the analysis for StarWind, it was approximately 20 percent less than any of the other solutions that we looked at."
  • "The scalability limitation for us is its licensing. At some point in the fairly near future, we will probably have to upgrade our license so we can store eight terabytes instead of four. We are currently at four terabytes, but we're starting to knock on the door of that capacity."
  • "The pricing is excellent. It will run on anything. You don't have to buy a $100,000 server, with hardware you don't need. You just pay for the license and you're good to go."
  • "The licensing is a bit weird. If you license the standard version of StarWind, it allows you four terabytes. Then, they have a pro version, but with the pro version, the only difference is it doubles the terabytes to eight."

  • "I think it's priced right and it's extremely intelligent."
  • "The customers have found the solution to be expensive. However, when compared to the competition the price is reasonable."
  • "The cost of the licensing is reasonable."
  • "The price of HPE Nimble Storage dHCI is expensive."
  • "HPE Nimble Storage dHCI is much cheaper than the competition and has value proposition. Customers can see an ROI in three months. There are no additional costs, and VMware licenses can be reutilized."
  • "With the features that HPE Nimble Storage dHCI provides, I cannot say its pricing is more."
  • "The product is very affordable."
  • "I would rate the licensing model a three out of ten, where one is extremely expensive, and ten is cheap."
  • More HPE Alletra dHCI Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "You need to pay a license for additional features. If we need to monitor hardware for the automatic alert notification, we need to pay them."
  • "The tool's pricing is competitive."
  • "There is room for improvement in the licensing structure, maybe. Regarding sizing the resources, sometimes it's difficult to calculate/compute them based on the client's requirements."
