Setup is straightforward from a business user standpoint but MAQL needs to be easier.

Data integration has improved reserving and expense control while collaboration drives fast dashboards
Regarding drawbacks or weak points in Microsoft Power BI, it may not be directly related to the tool itself, but with our architecture, as we couldn't get a service account, which is an email address that has no relationship with the employees, just to establish the connection with Anaplan. We couldn't get it to work on SSO, so we use an employee account which could be a point of weakness, meaning if the person leaves, that connection will break. If the person goes on holiday and we need to refresh, we have to change the connection as well, but we have to live with that since we're not using SSO on the service account. Regarding the natural language processing feature, we're trying to avoid using it too much because it can slow down the connection, so as much as possible, we try to build the logic and any transformation in Anaplan, and then deliver an end product to Microsoft Power BI.

Unlocks actionable insights through user-friendly analysis features
The self-service capabilities that Qlik Sense offers are significant. They offer natural language processing, allowing users to ask questions in layman language, and Qlik Sense will create charts and narratives automatically. Users can access any dashboard developed in Qlik Sense from familiar portals such as Okta or other company portals through embedding features. The integration with chatbots, particularly Microsoft Teams, allows users to access dashboards and ask questions directly within Teams. The collaboration feature enables users to share analysis by taking snapshots and tagging team members within the Qlik Sense interface, eliminating the need for lengthy emails or screenshots. The storytelling feature allows users to create presentations directly in Qlik Sense using dashboard analysis, making it easier to answer questions during meetings. The subscription feature enables users to receive charts and sheets via email instead of navigating to the dashboard, facilitating monitoring purposes. Qlik Sense offers alerting capabilities where users can set thresholds for KPIs and receive notifications when these thresholds are reached. The platform also includes AI/ML features for predictive modeling through a no-code component, allowing business users to create and deploy AutoML models without depending on data scientists. The Qlik Answers component, featuring generative AI capability, enables users to get answers from unstructured data including Excel, HTML documents, or Microsoft Word documents by creating a knowledge base. The user-friendly interface operates on a drag-and-drop approach, with Qlik Sense suggesting appropriate charts based on selected dimensions and measures. The associative engine capabilities allow data association between tables, implementing selections across related tables. The platform uses a color-coding system (white, gray, and dark gray) to show related, excluded, and unrelated data selections, providing insights beyond traditional BI tools.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It's a good product for your end to end BI needs when its all on the cloud."
"Microsoft SSAS is one of the best BI suites on the market."
"Microsoft Power BI is a powerful tool with many capabilities, but my favorite feature is its data modeling, which links tables together and allows teams to gain insights for KPIs by modeling data differently to meet various requirements."
"In terms of stability, this product has never failed me."
"The amount of customization that you can do is good, and it's relatively straightforward to do, as people with limited experience in terms of coding can implement this themselves."
"The use of graphics to show and view the data indicators is the most valuable feature. It is also very stable."
"Microsoft BI is scalable."
"Easy to use and the visualization is valuable."
"If you are looking for a good BI solution for a small business that is very easy to deploy and not costly and that can use the cloud in terms of security, Power BI is probably the best solution in the market."
"Showing a miniature version of the chart if the case chart is bigger than the screen resolution allows us to have full context at all times."
"The flexibility of a non-IT developed solution allows for fast to market solutions."
"It is very easy to use, and the Qlik data engine has been able to handle everything we have thrown at it."
"We have found the use of AI to be the most valuable feature."
"Now, using Apps in Qlik as a navigation tool, we are using hidden opportunities to open new markets and also to reduce costs."
"The product is reasonably priced."
"The most valuable features are that Qlik has a very strong ATL available and the capacity to handle large volumes of data."
"Business users have been able to use the BI self-serve model."

Cons

"When the source is big and/or the source is Netsuite there are issues."
"I would like to see a change in the premium capacity."
"It is not the right tool to do deeper analysis or predictions. When you have some data and you want to do some deep analysis, there is no feature to help you with this."
"We haven't used it that long and I haven't come across anything that's stood out as needing to be fixed."
"Areas for improvement would be the construction of reports and the dashboard budget."
"I would like Microsoft to include some inbuilt machine learning so that it becomes point-and-click, rather than us developing models out of API and BI connecting to that and getting the results."
"The solution could use a faster speed on certain interactions and a refresh of the dashboards."
"The DAX features need some improvement. It's not as easy as Excel. They need more DAX formulas."
"I would like to see a feature that connects with a Machine Learning platform like a RapidMiner or Azure Machine Learning Studio. It would be great to have a Machine Learning application link to connect."
"The product could be improved by implementing a user-feedback ranking system."
"I am not really a fan of the set analysis. It's its own language that doesn't quite make a whole lot of sense to me at this point. I wish it were more intuitive."
"I would like to see Qlik add more DevOps functionality to their product. Currently, we have to turn to 3rd party products to handle things like Source Control, Code Deployment through environments, etc."
"I would like to see more types of visual elements and better configuration options for additional flexibility when developing charts."
"Currently, we are not very happy with the iPad or iPhone app because it is not working as we want."
"Some of the charts are still a bit basic and screen rendering on different sized monitors can be an issue."
"Qlik Sense has better performance, particularly in its archival system. However, Power BI has better visualizations and interactions with updates in 2023 that provide ease of use. Power BI is more user-friendly than Qlik Sense."
"On-premise, if things are not working well I need to rebuild some parts of the dashboard."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"This product offers good value for the money."
"In the beginning, the solution cost approximately $1,000 per month, we have a Microsoft startup subscription. There is a subscription pack for startups company which we are able to have for one year."
"Power BI is cost-effective compared to other reporting tools."
"The price of the license can be better."
"The solution’s pricing is reasonable."
"No comment on pricing."
"Setup is easy, and the cost is economical. You do sometimes need to pay additional costs for third party products which "plug-in" to Microsoft BI."
"Their price is good."
"Licensing: Review the named model and move towards a usage model (e.g., cores, memory, computers, API calls, etc.)."
"Start small with tokens. You can always buy more."
"You need to pay 5,000 Norwegian kroner per user. Microsoft Power BI is slightly more expensive than Qlik Sense."
"Qlik Sense is pretty good in terms of price."
"Currently, our ROI is clear and concise decision-making. This timely addition will easily add $15 million to our bottom line in 2017."
"Licensing is quite good, easy, but slightly expensive."
"The costs can initially become quite high. Make sure you have a clear understanding of who will truly use the product as opposed to someone that will simply receive the end report."
"You will spend more time on educating your staff than licensing the product."
