Has significantly improved document-driven workflows and reduced processing time across finance and HR functions
Automation Anywhere has evolved significantly and upgraded itself to provide agentic AI and AI-based automation solutions for document automation. The product has matured considerably over time. We can create workflows that can call an API. We can include prompts in particular workflows for ChatGPT-related functions, connecting to an LLM and RAG to perform tasks. For document automation, modern features are available to train documents, ensuring high accuracy and repeatability over time. The system is very easy to use. I recently completed a course in document automation, typically designed for people involved in coding and technical aspects. Though I understand coding comprehensively, I don't do actual coding. The course was very accessible. Currently, extensive coding isn't necessary due to the hybrid model incorporating GenAI aspects, low-code, no-code capabilities, APIs, and numerous pre-built objects in Automation Anywhere. The features include GenAI-driven prompting methods and workflow creation capabilities. In these workflows, we can create decision boxes and call APIs without coding. We simply pull objects, drop them, connect them, and add minimal coding when needed. The most crucial aspect isn't coding but rather sizing the automation and fleshing out the details. Automation Co-pilot takes notes and performs automated analysis. It can extract details from videos, summarize conversations, and provide detailed information. During calls, it identifies instructions and performs tasks such as preparing reports and reconciliation. Automation Anywhere can also connect with Microsoft Co-pilot. Through Co-pilot, real-time operations can be executed, allowing direct interaction between vendors and automation through this component.

Automation has reduced night-time server checks and now manages reporting and cloud monitoring
The downsides I normally mention about Fortra's Automate are about reports and deep analytics. While Fortra's Automate can manage our servers, it can give you a problem report that says what happened, but it doesn't give you a clear picture of why it happened or how many times your servers went offline. This pushes us to get another third-party tool. We have to generate those simple reports from Fortra's Automate and push them to another software in Tableau. We use Tableau for analytics to analyze that data and understand what the trends are, what the instance is telling us, and what the clear problem is. It lacks that deep analytics feature. Additionally, I am not impressed with the interface, as it feels outdated and it has taken a long time to see any updates or changes. I believe those are the two downsides, but the customer support is adequate.

It lightens the workload while giving our clients greater visibility into what's being done and how
I've used Automation Anywhere, Blue Prism, UiPath, and Pega Robotics, formerly OpenSpan. I still have ongoing projects with those, which tend to be client-driven. Verint probably works better for us because it originated in the call center world. Pega Robotics is probably the only one that can match Verint in that segment. Verint is better for call center employees or back-office workers. Depending on the use case, we could have used Automation Anywhere or UiPath. Those other solutions focus on replacing workers and automating all their tasks. Verint aims to make the workers more efficient and allow management to see what the worker is doing. You can have an equally significant impact with either approach, but I prefer the human-centered approach.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It can be used for customer service support, data extraction, data migration, and software installation."
"We work in the business process outsourcing arena, it has improved our organization mainly around freeing up people to do other things and that can be quite large numbers, in the high tens, even hundreds of people that can be freed up to do other work."
"It is very self-explanatory, making it easy for non-technical users to develop."
"Excel automation is one of the best features in Automation Anywhere. If we have to work with multiple excel sheets with lots of rows and columns, it gets really difficult to keep track of this is done manually. But Automation Anywhere makes it really simple and error-free."
"When considering all the facts, this is one of the most user-friendly RPA tools that I have worked with."
"It is very easy to use and learn compared to a programming language, where you have to have a background in coding. Anyone can learn it. Learning the software is easy."
"I liked the Automation Anywhere University. It was easy and simple. I hoped that it wouldn't take too much of my time, and it didn't, which was good."
"Automation Anywhere IQ Bot is very strong in comparison to other vendors because Automation introduced this intelligent document processing product a long time ago, which is one of its unique features."
"I find it very user-friendly. Our IT department and other departments can seamlessly collaborate without requiring extensive training. As a business department, we particularly value this aspect, as our team doesn't consist of many IT users. However, we couldn't solely rely on a drag-and-drop approach to implement and utilize the solution within our departments."
"Customers of AutoMate will realize their ROI within 90 to 120 days from their go-live date."
"Fortra's Automate performs the job effectively and has the capability to alert us of any issues."
"The most valuable feature is the drag-and-drop interface, which is very Windows-like."
"The ability to connect to websites and pull data is the solution's most valuable feature."
"The best features in Fortra's Automate include centralized job orchestration and reliable scheduling, along with role-based security and audit trails, which I value the most about this product."
"Fortra's Automate can check if our servers are working, so I don't need to wake up at 3:00 AM to check server status."
"The feature I prefer most about Fortra's Automate is that it offers no-code or low-code automation, which is essential for me as a cybersecurity analyst because we do not have time to code and automate everything."
"Verint probably works better for us because it originated in the call center world."
"Verint RPA gives our clients greater visibility into what's being done and how. It also lightens the load on the workers by automating tasks."

Cons

"We had a major issue when it came to single sign-on. We couldn't get it working. There was a bug in Automation Anywhere that eventually got solved just a few weeks back. However, we have not implemented it. We have had hiccups with the single sign-on, but otherwise it was a smooth setup. We are not using single sign-on because of this bug."
"Queues are great but need improvement. They are helpful because most of the automations are transaction-based."
"Automation Anywhere can improve by implementing a Citrix environment and increasing the stability of tools, such as IQ bot."
"Automation Anywhere should improve its OCR capabilities."
"Our tool is a bit slow, as it's a legacy tool. Automation Anywhere is having some issues when running back."
"They have a ridiculously expensive bot licensing structure, especially for the Asian region."
"The scalability of Automation Anywhere's cloud version is excellent, but the on-premise version is a waste of time and money."
"They need to make the solution more robust."
"There are newer AWS services such as Lambda or Security Hub that security analysts use to detect malicious traffic or alerts, but the integration is not available for these, so we still rely on custom scripting because there are no options for drag-and-drop with these newer services."
"Areas for improvement in Automate would be a more modern web-based workflow designer, an enhanced real-time monitoring dashboard, and built-in API integration tools for REST and SOAP."
"The interface could be more user-friendly and easier to navigate."
"Fortra's Automate is not as reliable as I would like it to be."
"While this solution is continually improving, as it is now, the user interface could use improvement when I compare it to a product like UiPath."
"Regarding customer support, I face challenges sometimes. They're not always available, and you may need to wait for assistance, but overall their support is acceptable."
"The vendor is currently working on a solution that allows us to automatically create a process that is based on a document that we receive via email."
"One aspect I dislike about Fortra's Automate is that debugging slows me down."
"Verint RPA needs a more robust toolset to create complex UIs for workers. It's probably not just this product. Almost all automation solutions have similar limitations."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We save approximately 10,000 hours per year."
"I don't agree with the IQ Bot licensing costs, which depends on the consumption of the document rather than per bot or user. This is confusing for me, because most of the cases for us in a possible future scenario, there would be a lot of invalid data to be scanned to get to real data. E.g., we would have to supply approximately 100 pages of scanned data to extract two pages of original data. In these type of cases, the IQ Bot might be a costly venture."
"No one is balking at the cost. They are market rates and will change, but no one is saying, "That is ridiculous or impossible." They are saying, "Show me the ROI and prove that the cost is accurate.""
"In most of the cases, the product value is very good. If the infrastructure, implementation, and framework are good, then generally, the client can get a good return on investment."
"Automation Anywhere is affordable."
"Automation Anywhere is expensive, making it more suitable for enterprise organizations."
"It's fine. However, I'm concerned with the credits in terms of the pricing for the AI models. It is understandable that the new ones are more expensive, but the base models, after doing the pricing conversion, cost about four to ten times as much as paying directly."
"I think the solution's pricing is reasonable."
"Compared to other products, the pricing model for this solution is much more convenient, flexible, and adaptable to the Portuguese reality."
"From a distributor's perspective, one of the biggest selling points of Automate is its price point."
"While solutions like UiPath and Blue Prism cost around $11,000-$12,000 for each license, this product costs around $7,000 and you can keep it forever."
"Once you buy the software, you just pay for the support for backend help."
"It comes with a package that costs approximately $20,000 USD per year."
"I believe the price falls within a reasonable range, which significantly influenced our decision regarding the product. This aspect is crucial for any technological solution, especially in our country where enterprises might be hesitant to invest heavily in something untested or uncertain about its practicality and potential returns."
"The cost is a bit high for a small business like ours, but we manage with Fortra's Automate."
"It has gone up in price. The price of Fortra's Automate has increased since we first started using it. It does a lot but also costs a lot. It was a lot more affordable before Fortra owned the software."
