Has improved incident response with better root cause visibility and supports flexible on-call scheduling
Datadog needs to introduce more hard limits to cost. If we see a huge log spike, administrators should have more control over what happens to save costs. If a service starts logging extensively, I want the ability to automatically direct that log into the cheapest log bucket. This should be the case with many offerings. If we're seeing too much APM, we need to be aware of it and able to stop it rather than having administrators reach out to specific teams. Datadog has become significantly slower over the last year. They could improve performance at the risk of slowing down feature work. More resources need to go into Fleet Automation because we face many problems with things such as the Ansible role to install Datadog in non-containerized hosts. We mainly want to see performance improvements, less time spent looking at costs, the ability to trust that costs will stay reasonable, and an easier way to manage our agents. It is such a powerful tool with much potential on the horizon, but cost control, performance, and agent management need improvement. The main issues are with the administrative side rather than the actual application.

Automation and custom reporting impress while support resolution needs improvement
Workspace ONE Intelligence comes under a separate cost if you purchase UEM, making it a useful tool. The current features available in Workspace ONE Intelligence meet all use cases, so there isn't currently a need for improvement. Support could be improved for Workspace, especially the technical part, and it needs to ensure that issues can be resolved within one or two days. The main issue is the time to resolve problems, not the time to response, which is adequate.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Datadog has impacted my organization positively as this is our main observability tool when it comes to monitoring services, traces, and all resources within key services."
"The ability to easily drill down into log queries quickly and efficiently has helped us to resolve several critical incidents so far this year, and we heavily rely on a series of dashboards showing us various queues and load on CPU and memory for servers."
"Using the data, our operation teams works with the dashboards to get their statistics, analytics, etc."
"The application performance monitoring is pretty good."
"The performance of Datadog is good."
"We rely heavily on the API crawlers that Datadog uses for cloud integrations. These allow us to pick up and leverage the tags teams have already deployed without having also to make them add them at the agent level."
"The integration into AWS is key as well as our software is currently bound to AWS."
"I don't have to worry about upgrades with the AWS version."
"The tool's most valuable feature is its tunneling capability. It is good for inventory, encryption, device location, and kiosk mode. If a device is lost, you can find it. We integrated it with a third-party tool for one-time passwords and two-factor authentication. The user-friendly interface makes device management easy."
"Integration is also very easy."
"I would rate Workspace ONE Intelligence nine out of ten."

Cons

"It would be great if usage metrics were automatically created and we could create custom metrics, instead we ended up building some of our own stuff to track and alert on our own usage."
"There are some areas on log filtering screens where the user interface can take some getting used to."
"Support via tickets is absolutely terrible. It's the one obvious bad spot for Datadog."
"A big problem with Datadog is the billing. They need to make the billing more user-friendly."
"We would really like to see more from the Service Catalog."
"They need to offer better/more customization on what logs we get and making tracing possible on Edge runtime logs is a real requirement."
"It would also be nice if we had more insight into our own usage of Datadog (agents and custom metrics). They provide a usage page which does help, but it is not in real-time."
"The documentation leaves a lot to be desired for new users."
"One area for improvement is location mapping - it uses Bing Maps instead of Google Maps, which isn't always up to date. Device enrollment can also be challenging, especially for older devices that need a factory reset."
"Support could be improved for Workspace, especially the technical part, and it needs to ensure that issues can be resolved within one or two days."
"Windows devices management needs improvement."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The cost is high and this can be justified if the scale of the environment is big."
"While it is an expensive product, I would rate the pricing level at four out of five."
"Pricing seemed easy until the bill came in and some things were not accounted for."
"Our licensing fees are paid on a monthly basis."
"My advice is to really keep an eye on your overage costs, as they can spiral really fast."
"At my last company, we did see ROI, specifically around response time. We could get to mission critical things that were down and losing revenue on immediately. So, the product paid itself back."
"It has a module-based pricing model."
"It has always scaled for us. Cost scales up too, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. It's reasonable for what they're providing."
"The solution is cost-effective. Workspace ONE Intelligence is neither cheap nor expensive. Compared to other tools like MaaS360, it Is more cost-effective. It costs about seven dollars per user, while others might cost $50—a big difference."
