Q&A Highlights
Question: How does Mulesoft Anypoint API Manager compare with Amazon API Gateway?
Answer: I have found that Mulesoft Anypoint API Manager is the best integration tool out there for API management. It is easy to implement and learn; it provides several options for deployment, (including Cloudhub, On Premise, Hybrid, VPC, etc.); and there are a variety of connector choices available that connect to almost all platforms. Regarding the connectors, it is even operations specific, which allows you to choose the operation that is best suitable for you. Mulesoft is robust, easy to integrate and manage, and even offers training as well as development plans. I appreciate that Mulesoft also has meetup events to keep users up to date on new application features. The only negative about Mulesoft Anypoint API Manager for me is that sometimes the loading time can be slow and the most recent enterprise edition is a little too expensive for my liking. Amazon API Gateway is good for serverless and event-based applications. I like that API requests can be easily created and API paths can be easily mapped. I also like that there is no need to create, nor contain or patch any server. It is easy to deploy and also offers a pay-as-you-go pricing model, so you only have to pay for what you use. Another benefit is that it allows me to monitor API triggers and changes, and supports third-party authorization as well as authentication. And it has a great dashboard too, which is very clear and helpful. The things that bother me about Amazon API Gateway are that sometimes it can be challenging to add client certificates and it requires some extra orchestration, which can be time-consuming. The documentation can certainly use some improvement. I also feel that the response limit size should be dynamic, but it is not. Conclusion: For me the choice between Mulesoft Anypoint API Manager and Amazon API Gateway was easy. I would rate Mulesoft a ten out of ten any day.

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Amazon API Gateway can integrate with ECS and Lambda.""What I like best about Amazon API Gateway is that it's simple to use, easy to set up, and you can quickly get it up and running. It's a very user-friendly solution. I also didn't experience any issues in terms of Amazon API Gateway interface, integration, or monitoring. The solution runs smoothly.""It is a stable solution.""All information and data needs to be sanitized before it enters a private domain and we use this solution to do this.""Amazon stack is easy to use in combination with other Amazon services, so it was a logical continuity.""The solution is stable.""t is easy for integrations if it is deployed in AWS Services.""In terms of scalability, I haven't encountered any issues with API Gateway. We've significantly increased our traffic from hitting it once or twice a minute to now hitting it ten to fifteen times within a minute. In an hour, we're receiving hundreds of hits. So, it's performing excellently."

"We have all the policies available via drag and drop. It made it very easy.""Its best feature is that its plugins are somewhat unique in the market. We have budgets, Prime membership, and pre-plugins available in the marketplace that we can use immediately.""We can use both on-premises and cloud setups.""When using the Mulesoft Anypoint Platform, it has a wide range of connectors that are readily available to connect with the multiple applications.""The ease of policy maintenance and API functionality are key features for me. They streamline business processes by allowing configurable control over policies, instead of writing codes and making maintenance more straightforward.""The initial setup was straightforward.""The tool has a private area. It also has a cloud deployment option.""MuleSoft has given the API solution a 3-tiered architecture. This means that there are multiple channels available in one application. The usability is very high."

Cons
"From a use cases perspective, you need to have an internal and external gateway. AWS can only handle external traffic so has to be used together with another solution.""When it comes to DDoS protection, I would like to see that become available at the API Gateway level.""There are certain restrictions that cannot be implemented without web access.""The solution could improve signature validation.""We would like to see more UI-based monitoring.""Its support for SAM integration could be made more accessible.""Currently, I'm not facing any issues with Amazon API Gateway, which satisfies my requirements. I'm pretty happy with what Amazon API Gateway offers, but as its pricing is on the higher side, that's one area for improvement in the solution. What I'd like to see in the next release of Amazon API Gateway is an improvement in the status checks you get from the monitoring feature of the solution. Currently, you get the number of requests received, the number of reports, etc., but if there are more details than what's given by Amazon API Gateway, that will improve the solution.""API Gateway lacks some governance features that MuleSoft offers, and there are additional features that could make it even better."

More Amazon API Gateway Cons →

"The solution's price is high.""Since most components are situated in the cloud, there's one particular hosted in the cloud. This presents a considerable challenge. While all other components are implemented on-premises, this specific one isn't permitted to be hosted in the cloud as per customer requirements. Shifting this component to an on-premises environment requires a significant effort.""When discussing potential enhancements overall, it primarily involves making it more user-friendly and lowering the pricing. There are several aspects that could benefit from improvement, or perhaps a few other areas to consider.""The solution is missing a monetization module.""The cost model could be improved.""When compared to other integration technologies, it is slightly higher.""The log management for this solution needs improvement.""Mulesoft Anypoint API Manager can improve some of the gateway features. We could use some more customization in creating rules. A lot of the policies are related to the APIs rather than the client. If I want to apply a policy based on a client that is not available."

    Overview

Amazon API Gateway is a fully managed service that makes it easy for developers to create, publish, maintain, monitor, and secure APIs at any scale. With a few clicks in the AWS Management Console, you can create an API that acts as a "front door" for applications to access data, business logic, or functionality from your back-end services, such as workloads running on Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2), code running on AWS Lambda, or any Web application.

Mulesoft Anypoint API Manager is the portion of the Anypoint Platform that is used for the designing, building, managing, and publishing of APIs. Anypoint Platform uses Mule as its core runtime engine.

Mulesoft Anypoint API Manager is an extremely versatile solution. It offers users the ability to deploy their APIs in a number of different settings. You can use API Manager on a public cloud, a private cloud, or a hybrid. Additionally, users can use the solution to manage their deployments with ease. A few clicks are all you need to alter your deployment.

Benefits of Mulesoft Anypoint API Manager

Some of the benefits of using Mulesoft Anypoint API Manager include:

    • The ability to deploy APIs and integrations in the location of your choice. Mulesoft Anypoint API Manager enables users to deploy APIs on their own servers or on the cloud via Mulesoft’s cloud service. It also allows users to change the deployment location with only a few clicks.

Mulesoft uses machine learning in order to adapt to any new threat that emerges.

    Reviews from Real Users

Mulesoft Anypoint API Manager is a highly effective piece of software whose purpose is to enable users to design, build, manage, and publish APIs. It stands out among its competitors for a number of reasons. Two major ones are the ease with which users can connect it to their applications and the high level of value that its support offers. It provides users with the ability to easily connect this solution with whatever program they need to join it with. Users can create connections without having to write code. It offers different types of support which ensure that users have a high level of understanding about the product and how to use it.

PeerSpot user Tolulope A., a technical lead specializing in integration and middleware at a financial services firm, notes the ease with which users can connect Mulesoft Anypoint API Manager to their applications. He writes, “One good thing about MuleSoft is that they have a lot of connectors to those back-end applications. We don't really need to write code to be able to connect to a database or to connect with SAP. You just need credentials and the connectivity details. Most of the development of what we do is just drag and drop. They're able to connect with applications using standard connectors that are provided by ESB, by MuleSoft.”

The CEO & Co-Founder at a computer retailer notes the value of Mulesoft’s supporting documentation. They write, “The documentation is great; it is always up-to-date and well-presented. If any details are missing, then there is a blog available that contains a lot of details. There are also channels on YouTube to help you better understand the solution and what some of the processes look like.”
