A user-friendly and clean interface, secure with multiple two-factor authentication options, and reliable
Pros and Cons
  • "The ability to add multiple two-factor authentication options for the user to choose from when they log in has helped increase the security of our network, especially with so many people working remotely."
  • "Even when your internet speed is good, once you connect to the VPN the speed gets automatically reduced, which is worrisome."

What is our primary use case?

The best thing I like about Cisco AnyConnect is that it is super easy to connect to any private network with just one click. During the pandemic, most of our deployments were in organizations operating remotely. Using private VPNs means that only authenticated users can access internal company websites and applications.

In our organization, it is used to connect to the servers in a secure way. Also, our remote users can access their computers in the office using the VPN Site-to-Client, where it allows you to encrypt and protect your data towards electronic computers when Internet connections are used outside of the corporate network.

How has it helped my organization?

This is very safe and secure. This application is lightweight and it doesn't consume much of your computer resources. The good thing is that the software doesn't store your data and there is no need to worry about privacy.

Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client is an excellent tool, easy to configure, and adapted to different devices, such as PCs, phones, tablets, etc., from both the IT administrator and the end user's perspective.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature of Cisco AnyConnect is that you can connect to your organization's VPN network with just one click.

With so many staff working remotely right now, Cisco AnyConnect allows them to VPN into our company's network to access items behind their firewalls. This has allowed staff to stay home safely during the pandemic and to keep the network safer.

The ability to add multiple two-factor authentication options for the user to choose from when they log in has helped increase the security of our network, especially with so many people working remotely.

Using this app, we can manage all of the networks, whether ethernet or wireless.

You can also completely remove some less secure networks from your list so you would not connect them accidentally.

One more thing will be the inbuilt VPN connectivity option. Using it, you can connect to your VPN so there is no need to install a separate application.

The interface is very clean and easy to interact with.

There is an inbuilt diagnostics option that will automatically search for errors or issues in case you are facing any network connectivity problems. It will also give the IP address, strength, and security details about the network that you are currently connected to.

What needs improvement?

Even when your internet speed is good, once you connect to the VPN the speed gets automatically reduced, which is worrisome.

If there was an autosave password then it would have been much easier to connect.

By default, Cisco AnyConnect does not update to the newest version automatically and you can't change the setting to auto-update unless you are signed into the tool. Our company had stopped allowing an older version to connect, so staff that didn't have the auto-update setting enabled were still on the older version and couldn't sign in to update to the newest version. To fix this, they would have to have their IT support team come out and uninstall the old version then download and install the newest version.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client for three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The reliability and user-friendliness of this application are amazing.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

This tool is one that I can recommend to large organizations or small businesses.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We did not use a similar solution prior to this one. It was the first one we used and it has worked for the past three years.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Just some research on the product and rolling it out.

What other advice do I have?

During my usage of this application, I did not come across anything that I particularly hate about it. Sometimes, it takes a little longer to connect to a VPN, although I do not know if it's an issue with the application or with the VPN. Since I have faced this issue at times, I thought that I would mention it. Apart from that, there are no complaints.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Hybrid Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Helps us connect to the company's network and has a very secure VPN connection
Pros and Cons
  • "The system is reliable, simple and secure."
  • "The security could be improved."

What is our primary use case?

Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client is great for connecting to the company's network when working from home. Clients can install it on their laptops.

How has it helped my organization?

It has a very secure VPN connection and is a good product from a performance perspective.

What needs improvement?

The solution is great, but perhaps the security could be improved.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using this solution for three and a half years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable. We have not had any issues with it at our company. I have also used Cisco VPN for more than 15 years and also have not had any issues.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable. The solution operates as one device per user and is designed this way from a user and security perspective. We have around 300,000 people using this solution.

How are customer service and support?

I cannot comment on our experience with customer service as we interact with our internal IT team when we have any issues. Our IT department is pretty large too.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was straightforward.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I cannot comment on the pricing as a different department deals with it.

What other advice do I have?

I rate this solution a nine out of ten. The system is reliable, simple and secure.

A simple solution that is easy to use and can be connected remotely
Pros and Cons
  • "I like that it is really easy to use, it's a simple product. It can connect remotely with a secure network."
  • "The logout should be automized and it should have a reminder that you have logged in into a private network."

What is our primary use case?

Our primary use case of this solution is for infrastructure security for accounts.

What is most valuable?

I like that it is really easy to use, it's a simple product. It can connect remotely with a secure network.

What needs improvement?

The interface could be a little more modern looking and it would be nice for other users if it had easier integration.

Another point of improvement is that it is easy to forget that you are in a private network and it does not log you out automatically. I did not see that there is an option for that. It should log you out after a certain point. You can forget that you are browsing a private, local network. The logout should be automized and it should have a reminder that you have logged in into a private network.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using this solution for around five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I never have stability issues.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is probably well scalable. I have not scaled it for more people so I don't have experience with that.

How are customer service and technical support?

I have never needed to contact their technical support.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have not used a different VPN provider.

How was the initial setup?

I have installed it on my PC and I did not have to connect all the IP addresses and stuff but the setup was simple.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend this solution to anybody considering it. I think it is a good product.

I would rate it a ten out of ten.

Easy to use and set up with competitive pricing
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution is very easy to use and set up."
  • "Behavior analytics and other newer technologies should be integrated into the solution."

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use the solution for an SSL VPN, for third parties to connect to our network.

What is most valuable?

The pricing is very competitive.

The solution is very easy to use and set up.

What needs improvement?

Configuring the solution could be simplified. You tend to spend a bit of time on it right now. It could be made easier with better UI. All of the backend configurations are command-line and it's not helpful. It takes a little bit of effort to get the system up and running.

There's a lot of newer technologies that are displacing all of the VPN technologies. The solution could benefit from having a defragmenter and should offer Mac-based device control.

Behavior analytics and other newer technologies should be integrated into the solution.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable. We've had about 2,000 users connected to it. We use it quite extensively.

How are customer service and technical support?

A different team handles technical support, however, I haven't heard of any issues.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was pretty simple. It's not too complex.

What about the implementation team?

We had a hybrid approach to implementation where we did a few updates and then had a third party deploy the basic items for us.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution offers its services at a very reasonable price.

What other advice do I have?

I'd recommend the solution; it's a good product.

I'd rate it eight out of ten.

Works well as a VPN, but the automatic re-connection feature needs to be improved
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature is the connection feature."
  • "There are situations where the connection drops, and you may not even be aware of it until you try to do something critical."

What is our primary use case?

The primary use case of this solution as an access point. We have on-premises servers and if anyone needs to access those servers remotely, they access them through Cisco AnyConnect.

We use it as a VPN between outside networks and our internal office network.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is the connection feature. It allows me to connect.

What needs improvement?

There are situations where the connection drops, and you may not even be aware of it until you try to do something critical. The reconnection feature can be improved.

In the next release, I would like to have a connection alert or a pop up that could tell you that you have been disconnected.

It would be an improvement to include a better interface and integration with other vendors.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for one year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

There are instances where the connection is very poor, but It may have something to do with our network. I am not sure.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

This solution is scalable.

We have twenty to thirty users.

How are customer service and technical support?

We have not contacted technical support, we have not had any cause to contact them.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Previously we did not use another solution, this is the first one.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was straightforward.

What about the implementation team?

We did not use any external resources to implement this solution, it was done internally.

What other advice do I have?

This solution is very good, but if you don't know what you are doing, you could create issues with it very quickly. If you don't have enough knowledge regarding this solution, then you need to get someone who knows this solution to help you with the implementation or to implement the solution.

I would rate this solution a six out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

A secure solution that allows for easy sharing of connections or credentials with colleagues
Pros and Cons
  • "I like the ability to share the connections or simply to be able to pass the credentials for a connection to other colleagues without bothering too much about the connection being tracked or about security, because each and every user will require a secret password, so I don't really care about sending the details. It's very secure."
  • "If they could simplify connections via other machines, like Linux or Mac OS X, it would be helpful."

What is our primary use case?

We use them for our clients to connect to the servers.

What is most valuable?

I like the ability to share the connections or simply to be able to pass the credentials for a connection to other colleagues without bothering too much about the connection being tracked or about security. Each and every user will require a secret password, so I don't really care about sending the details. It's very secure.

What needs improvement?

Sometimes I need to connect with Cisco AnyConnect and I don't have access to a Windows machine, so I need to run the client from a Linux machine. If I recall correctly, the last build for the Linux was five or six years ago. So, sometimes it happens that I have this issue with not being able to use Cisco AnyConnect just because I'm forced to use a Linux machine, and the client is very old and it doesn't connect to the current version they're running on the servers on which I want to connect, even though it should be compatible with the old version I have.

It's not really an issue from our side, though, because at the end of the day I always find the solution of connecting through a Windows machine but this requires at some point to connect through the VPN. I connect a Linux machine to a Windows machine, the Windows machine to one in the AnyConnect lines product just to connect to yet another Windows machine, which in turn I need to connect on a Linux machine, because in most cases, the actual servers around the world, the vast majority of them are running on Linux.

If they could simplify connections via other machines, like Linux or Mac OS X, it would be helpful.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It's quite stable. It is seldom disconnected. If I recall correctly it happened to us last year on several occasions while using it, it tended to disconnect. But the product is very stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

In terms of scalability, I cannot comment because I only hear from the clients. I don't hear from the server-side.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend this solution to anyone who is considering its implementation.

I would rate this solution between a seven and an eight out of ten.

Remote access solution that has been used for decades but is now falling behind its competitors in terms of providing relevant features
Pros and Cons
  • "This is a stable solution."
  • "This solution doesn't address the seal of trust as a concept for a traditional VPN clients. I think that it is a dying product."

What is our primary use case?

We use this solution for remote access to our customer's environment.

What needs improvement?

This solution doesn't address the seal of trust as a concept for a traditional VPN clients. I think that it is a dying product. The company should try to catch up with their competitors like Palo Alto and Check Point, because they're falling behind.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for decades.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

This is a stable solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

This solution's scalability depends on how big our customer's business is. To a certain point it is scalable, but if a company is too big, it becomes a nightmare to keep track of all profiles.

How are customer service and support?

I have used the technical support for this solution but it was many years ago.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward. We have two to three people who maintain this solution.

What other advice do I have?

The traditional VPN client is slowly fading away. There are newer, more modern solutions.

I can only recommend Cisco products for routers and maybe switches, but not for firewalls. They are so far behind their competitors and this is why I would not recommend Cisco.

I would rate this solution a five out of ten.

What is our primary use case?

Our primary use case for Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client is VPN.

What is most valuable?

I'm just a basic user, so I don't know how I would answer this question.

I have had a VPN for eight years, but I'm not sure whether we have had Cisco AnyConnect the entire time.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?
