What is our primary use case?
My main use case for NAKIVO Backup & Replication is mailbox recovery or backup, encrypting backups at the disaster-recovery level and providing an MSP-type service, as well as for clients who buy it normally but also see it as an economical and very easy-to-use solution compared to other vendors in terms of cost.
I usually have situations where users delete emails or important information is lost, or something disables an email account and then it's forgotten. It is easier to be able to back it up and restore that specific object directly within the same mailbox than having to look for PSTs and other files to find that information. With NAKIVO Backup & Replication, it is possible to search for that specific email and restore it. When comparing it to other solutions on the market, such as Azure, the cost is very minimal. If Azure costs one hundred dollars, with NAKIVO Backup & Replication it costs five.
I had a situation with a client where the entire data center went down, including the host completely with all its equipment, and NAKIVO Backup & Replication was a very important piece to restore all the machines and the internal servers that host contained. Since that experience, it has always been incredible with NAKIVO Backup & Replication.
How has it helped my organization?
I have had many situations with clients who have experienced a lot of disruption in their infrastructure, including one that was attacked. The protection that NAKIVO Backup & Replication offers me at the backup level itself and being able to guarantee encryption and anti-ransomware protection has been very valuable for our clients because the information has always remained fully protected within the tool. Regardless of the storage where the backup or file is placed, it is very well protected. The usability may seem like a super simple tool, but once implemented, the result is very viable and very scalable for the client.
What is most valuable?
I consider the best features that NAKIVO Backup & Replication offers to be email recovery and backup, the GUI which is very nice and user-friendly, ease of use, adding resources, reporting, the monitoring it has directly on the equipment if you enable it, and the cost. The integration with multiple hosts nowadays such as Proxmox, which is totally free, is valuable considering that today we have high costs with VMware or Hyper-V. For a small or medium company, it can be useful to use Proxmox, and the tool is fully compatible with NAKIVO Backup & Replication and the others. The ease of use and implementation are excellent, and the training is outstanding. A person can understand NAKIVO Backup & Replication in 40 minutes with 80 to 90 percent comprehension. Additionally, all the capabilities it has in terms of ransomware protection mean that all your files are totally encrypted and are part of NAKIVO Backup & Replication, which is the only way to recover them.
What needs improvement?
NAKIVO Backup & Replication has released many updates lately and at this point it works excellently. Needs will always appear, particularly around the AI topic and other things that come out over time. I understand that solutions always have to keep moving forward, but so far I see it as excellent.
I give it a nine because nothing is perfect. There are always solutions, and NAKIVO Backup & Replication is a tool that adapts perfectly to certain needs. However, we cannot dismiss that there are powerful solutions on the market that have been around for much longer. I rate it a nine because we can always improve.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using NAKIVO Backup & Replication for three years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
NAKIVO Backup & Replication is deployed in my organization on-premises and in a hybrid cloud.
I consider NAKIVO Backup & Replication to be totally stable. As long as it has all the correct sizing, it is a very stable tool.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
In terms of scalability, I see that it has a very specific licensing method, so it will always be based on the needs that the client has and it can grow as the client grows.
How are customer service and support?
My experience with NAKIVO Backup & Replication's technical support has been a ten. It is 24 hours, and they are very responsive.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I was using Veeam and I also used Recovery Manager Plus, which covers other functions. We still represent Veeam, but we always have two options for our clients. We have solutions that ensure the client feels comfortable and can adapt the solution to their needs, whether economic or technical.
How was the initial setup?
NAKIVO Backup & Replication has really been a solution that, initially when I started to distribute it, began with clients for whom we provide IT as a Service as part of the service. Clients then came and said they were paying a fortune for solutions where another option might do the same thing. When comparing this with Veeam or other tools on the market and comparing price and the functionalities it offers, I would rather stick with NAKIVO Backup & Replication. This is especially true when considering the entire disaster-recovery part in VMware or in your host. Having that ransomware protection or that backup malware scan at the security level is super interesting. Backing up all that infrastructure that relates to VMware, Hyper-V, Proxmox, Linux, Oracle DB, Exchange, Active Directory, SQL, Amazon, and Microsoft is powerful, and its cost is worth it. Being economical and being able to meet those expectations, whether in an ISP environment, enterprise, education, or for remote offices at the backup level or hybrid environments, we have the ability to solve all those specific needs. Additionally, we integrate with a wide range of NAS devices, including the most recognized on the market such as ASUSTOR, Netgear, QNAP, Synology, TrueNAS, and Western Digital, and we also guarantee 24/7 support as soon as you acquire the license, which is a plus. Having all of that in terms of support such as Microsoft Defender, Sophos Intercept X, Acronis, and ClamAV and many other things is beneficial. We have many possibilities with S3, backup targets at the cloud level, Amazon S3, Azure Blob, Backblaze, and Wasabi. We integrate with EMC Data Domain and HP.
What about the implementation team?
I did not purchase NAKIVO Backup & Replication through the AWS Marketplace. We directly became a partner because we cover many needs and quickly moved up levels, since the tool was very useful for our clients. We are directly in contact with the vendor.
What was our ROI?
I have seen a return on investment with NAKIVO Backup & Replication initially.
We have seen the return on investment because we have added value to our client and to our technology and managed IT services. We not only solve the client's operation and monitoring of their infrastructure, but we also give them that added value in terms of safeguarding information in general at the level of technology and the company's data.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
In terms of resource savings, I can say mainly the cost.
I don't have the specific information, but I do have it at the cost level. Generally, with another tool you pay about 4,000 or 5,000 dollars. With NAKIVO Backup & Replication you pay 1,500 and you have a very powerful solution.
My experience with the pricing, implementation costs, and licensing of NAKIVO Backup & Replication has been very good because it is a tool which, as I have already mentioned many times, is economical. The implementation cost plus the license cost is very friendly.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We still represent Veeam, but we always have two options for our clients. We have solutions that ensure the client feels comfortable and can adapt the solution to their needs, whether economic or technical.
What other advice do I have?
For each solution it is important to have a good partner, and a good partner who is more than just a partner is a collaborator who really helps you discover what your specific needs are and from there then dimension NAKIVO Backup & Replication according to those needs, because sometimes they are oversized or fall short. It is very important to be clear about that. I give this review a rating of nine overall.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Hybrid Cloud
If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?
Amazon Web Services (AWS)
