IBM MaaS360 Reviews

We are IBM business partners, so we use this for testing before we demonstrate it to the customer. So, I don’t have exposure to the product as an end user. 

I’d rather have exposure to the product as a technical salesperson, understanding the product and its features and how it is going to help the engineers and the customers in protecting their infrastructure.

It is for remote work, where portable devices are used by corporate users. If it is used for personal use, there are separate silos maintained. In case a specific user doesn’t report, there is a feature in MaaS360 to wipe out the office information from that device. 

We have a few key features, and there is a clear native integration of TeamViewer, which is actually helpful instead of using unauthorized screen desktop sharing applications. It is better to use TeamViewer, which is integrated with MaaS360, where you don’t have any threat from illegal issues. These are a few key features.

We have some challenges. If we look at the challenges we face in the market, there are a few products like Sophos, where there are features of MaaS360, and the IBM EDR product, ReaQta. So, there are features from both ReaQta and MaaS360 available in Sophos, as well as a few other products, which we have challenges in replacing. 

MaaS360 definitely caters to a few of the requirements, but when someone is going for a solution, all the features are not available in MaaS360. It is like a combo, MaaS360, and IBM ReaQta, that is, EDR, ReaQta. Both of them, together as a combo plan, actually offer a very good proposition in terms of market competitors.

There are a few products like Sophos and another product which have features from both endpoint detection and response and mobile device management. Because we have two different products with those features, we face challenges in proposing a particular product for the client. It is like a marketing challenge.

The way other competitor products are available in the market. So it is better to have a different positive team, but, again, to remain in competition and have better scalability. So, IBM needs to integrate a few features that the competitors have in their products. No doubt, this is a different product, MaaS360. We call it MDM. We call it endpoint mobile device management. Then we call it different names that MaaS360 falls into. 

But when we are talking about competitor products, to remain in the competition, you need to have features that others provide. IBM surely has those features in other products, but not in MaaS360.

The only challenge was replacing already existing competitor products with MaaS360. So, that’s the only area where we struggle because they always come with those requirements that they are already getting in the competitor’s product, which is not available in IBM’s MaaS360. So this product lacks some features, like Unified Endpoint Management.

We have lots of applications deployed on our employees' smartphones. To ensure secure access of these applications from these smartphones, we have deployed an MDM solution from IBM, and we have done containerization on these smartphones. A container has been created, and all applications that are being used for the official purpose are put into that container. All security policies, as per our company guidelines, are forced on that container. All personal applications that our employees have on their smartphones are outside this container, and they remain untouched. We have basically created a kind of partition between professional life applications and personal life applications on the smartphones of our employees.

It is about bringing more agility to our workforce and providing them the flexibility to use their smartphones in accessing office applications. Email is one of the applications. There are other CRM tools that are provided by the company to the employees. To sum it up, it is about providing a secure environment to our employees for working in a more seamless, agile, and productive manner.

My company's biggest customer of the solution is Coupang in Korea, and they manage their PDA devices over IBM MaaS360.

Most of my company's customers who use IBM MaaS360 use its Kiosk Mode, which is better to use for security. I think that IBM MaaS360 is a very powerful tool to use for PDA devices.

IBM MaaS360 gives us the ability to remote wipe, control, and block code from models and features we do not want on devices we have. We only want proprietary applications operating on our devices. 

The most valuable features of IBM MaaS360 are encryption and mobile design.

We use the product as an MDM tool for our workstations. 

We introduced the product as part of the SOC-2 requirement. The tool's most valuable features include keeping the operating system updated, tracking software inventory, controlling computer administrators, and the ability to wipe a computer in case of a security threat. It helps us to be compliant, and it is one of the reasons we implemented it.   

We have approximately 200 users.

The best feature is the ability to control mobile phones, wipe and containerize the data, and keep employees' work data separate from personal data.

We have provided IBM MaaS360 to all of our mobile users, approximately one year ago. I have also been working to reseller IBM services, such as this one, for almost the past two years.

This product is primarily used for data loss prevention (DLP).

Using this solution has made things more convenient. Earlier, we had to depend a lot more on IT to find and resolve our issues. There are fewer problems and once you raise a ticket, it's easier for them to identify whether it's something that they can fix remotely, or whether it would require a physical examination of the device.

The primary use case for us is to bring down enrollment and to make it more flexible for the company. The solution is good for small to large enterprise organizations. We have 100,000 devices that have the solution installed. I'm an engineer. 

I really value the ease of implementation. Within a couple of days you can quickly roll out several hundred devices. We didn't need more than that, but I'm convinced that it's possible and that it wouldn't matter if the device is not an iOS or a Windows 10 device. Those operating systems are possible and available within MaaS. The product provides basic security and when you need more, it's fairly easy to bring that in with third parties or a single sign-on MFA. That kind of thing is in place and available for the company.

The interface is very user-friendly. You just click and go. It's quite different from something you would get on Intune. I don't like that interface, the Microsoft interface is more suited to technical people.
