"The initial setup was easy. We didn't have any issues with the process and everything rolled out smoothly.""The feature I like is that it can easily do a lot of mapping.""From a network point of view, we can see the state of the network, as well as bandwidth usage and downtime.""PRTG is integrated on Windows.""This solution provides us with the needed feedback on our IT infrastructure. Cons
"The IP interface brief isn't consistent.""The solution could integrate more automation.""Each device needs to be configured to allow NetBrain to poll for the information it needs, which can be very time-consuming for a large network.""Support needs to improve for the installed product and some of the reporting could be more flexible to provide more complete cataloging.""It would be nice if the setup was a little simpler. Also, if the solution could provide more training materials for new people coming into our company so they can quickly learn how to use the functionalities."

More NetBrain Cons →

"There seems to be a big jump from the basic scan to the really thorough scan. There is a big jump in the quantity of sensors it uses for certain things. One minute you might get ten and then the next you get 200. There seems to be a big jump between the two at times.""PRTG Network Monitor needs to show bandwidth utilization in proper graphs. It isn't easy to learn.""The technical support service should be improved.""I would like to see more updates available in this solution.""I would like to see them take their graphing tools and convert them into a collector so that we can point telemetry to them""Improvements in data storage flexibility, such as allowing customers to specify data retention periods, would enhance PRTG.""The icons on PRTG's network diagram are hard to find. For example, finding the icons for firewalls and servers is difficult, so we're struggling to create the network topology.""PRTG Network Monitor is okay to use, but you'll need some time to analyze the data. If it can automatically locate or identify the problem area, it would be more helpful to users."

I have researched a quite a few network monitoring tools which can be used for various monitoring purposes of not only the servers, but the intermediate routers as well. There are majorly three types of these softwares. Ones which are completely open-source, you can do almost anything you want using these, but they require quite some expertise before you can use them. Then there are the ones that are not open source, the enterprise softwares and cost you some money, but on the other hand, they are extremely easy to set-up and learn. You can have them up and running in a matter of minutes. And then there are those which are completely cloud based. They can be free of cost or charge some money depending on the software. The good thing about these is that you don’t have to install any extra software, and it can be managed completely online but then again these have limited features and you cannot exploit them to the full extent as you can do with the open-source and to some extent the enterprise software, so I won’t suggest you to use these, because these are generally not the complete solutions and require other support software to achieve the same. Below I have listed the outstanding pros and cons of the various Network analyzers that you can look into Nagios Pros: Nagios offers an extensive set of collector plug-ins that allows users to gather performance and availability data from a broad range of operating systems, including  Windows and Netware Nagios… Read more →
