Sergio Itikawa - PeerSpot reviewer
Has supported hybrid IT environments effectively and offers strong data protection
With Arcserve UDP, the most valuable feature is to improve persistent data, which I consider important. I use other products too, not only Arcserve UDP, as we use TrueNAS as well. Arcserve UDP improves the precision of data. I have utilized Arcserve UDP's data deduplication feature, and the data deduplication feature helps my storage efficiency significantly. I have used Arcserve UDP's continuous data protection. It is beneficial for operational continuity because we use it constantly and have no objections to Arcserve UDP technology; I think it is very good. Arcserve UDP's integration with multiple operating systems is very good and very efficient. This brings value for me since many of my clients have different operating systems like Windows and Linux; there is no problem. Regarding the deduplication and compression with Arcserve UDP, I think Arcserve UDP is still a solid solution that we primarily use.

Lacks multi-platform support and physical infrastructure but excels in storage optimization
We use it for VM backup and Office 365 backup I find the solution to be user-friendly and easy to manage and deploy. It provides storage for Office 365, which is beneficial, and the deduplication technology is excellent, especially in optimizing storage capacity compared to others. In terms of…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We are satisfied with Arcserve UDP. The most important feature that we use and why we choose this product is the RHA feature."
"The product's deployment process was straightforward."
"It is very stable."
"It is easy to configure."
"The most valuable features are that it is able to restore quickly and that it is able to virtually restore on Hyper-V."
"The product provides instant and virtual standbys."
"Arcserve UDP's integration with multiple operating systems is very good and very efficient, which brings value for me since many of my clients have different operating systems like Windows and Linux; there is no problem."
"Arcserve has a feature called virtual standby (VSB), which has been very helpful because I already have a hot standby copy of my critical infrastructure. If something breaks, I can spin up that virtual standby copy in less than five minutes and ensure that my data is available to everyone and that business continuity is maintained."
"I find the solution to be user-friendly and easy to manage and deploy."
"Ability to restore to any host."
"We use the latest feature in Altaro called CDP (Continuous Data Protection) to back up our VMs as often as every five minutes. It allows us to make sure no data is accidentally deleted or overwritten."
"The CDP backup feature is very nice, as it allows you to take backups at high frequencies and with application consistency."
"Reverse Delta is Altaro proprietary backup deduplication technology. With Reverse Delta, the latest version of a file is always made available in its entirety, not as a delta file."
"I find the solution to be user-friendly and easy to manage and deploy."
"This solution is stable."
"It is an excellent product. It is easy to deploy, stable, and fast. Their support is excellent."

Cons

"The speed of restores should be improved. We have found the speed of large restores rather slow."
"The initial setup was complex."
"Based on my experience, whenever we need support, there are difficulties with communication when trying to resolve the issue."
"The solution could improve by being more user-friendly. It can be difficult to assign destinations and choose which files and folders we need to back up. There are some aspects that are unclear."
"One of the biggest drawbacks of Arcserve UDP is that it does not have a single console, making it an area that needs to be considered for improvement."
"The product is not user-friendly."
"In the most recent version of premium plus the replication has been removed, and it should re-added to the solution."
"Licensing is an area that needs improvement."
"The solution needs multi-platform support as it is currently only available for VMware and Hyper-V. It also lacks support for physical servers and workstations."
"The initial set up was complex, and I was not able to do the set up myself."
"Basically, how it works is that you have a single local drive, and then you have a cloud backup. It'd be nice if you could rotate the single local backup drive. As of now, you can't."
"To improve Altaro, I would like to see the ability to choose more than one backup location at a time."
"Improvement areas for Altaro VM Backup include enhancing backup and deduplication solutions for continuous operation and offering an all-in-one solution for hardware backup."
"Stability."
"The cloud backup and VMware support (now available in the latest releases), could do with some improvement."
"Migrating the physical through a backup and restore to a virtual environment would be very helpful."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solution is expensive."
"It is a bit pricey, considering the reliability problems. If the tool worked flawlessly, the price would be fair, even cheap."
"I rate the product price a five on a scale of one to ten, where one is low price and ten is high price."
"We only have the maintenance of three standard UDP licenses. Each license is 50 Euro. There are some additional costs for the storage and software but it has nothing to do with the UDP."
"It is approximately $400 to purchase a virtual service outright."
"The solution is priced well compared to other solutions."
"The licensing cost is for one year. There are not any hidden costs involved in the pricing model of the solution."
"Its price seems reasonable. Its price is average as compared to the other products I've looked at. We have a three-year license right now. There are no other costs beyond the standard licensing fee."
"VMware is a little pricey, but it is a good solution and priced similar to other products."
"Altaro had the best prices and ROI in the whole bunch that we evaluated."
"There is a free version for Hosts with 2 VMs."
"No other product offers these features for this price. The ROI is great."
"The price is great for the utility you get and the licensing has never caused any issues with my company."
"The pricing is okay,"
"Altaro VM Backup is affordably priced. It is a best value for its price and has almost every feature that an expensive, popular product offers."
"Its yearly maintenance fee is fairly high for me to renew for upgrades and support."
