Flexibility and detailed performance stats enable effective network monitoring
Spectrum is very good at monitoring all network faults and configurations. It enables me to take action based on network issues. The Performance Management provides detailed network performance stats, including CPU, memory, and interface bandwidth. Additionally, Spectrum is flexible and allows me to organize and treat devices uniquely without impacting other devices.

Better support and more accessible resources are crucial. Customers have expressed that support is not as flexible, and it is difficult to obtain necessary information quickly. Customers would benefit from improved training material for integration with other products. The solution's pricing is high and needs to be reconsidered, and the technical support should improve to provide more accessible and open information.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"In the last three years, it has had a great improvement in its stability; it is great that it works and we have had no outages in this time."
"It has improved efficiency because now there is the one-stop shop where you can view all your data, instead of needing to click around in four different tools."
"The out-of-the-box dashboards are valuable, in terms of being able to visualize performance data in ways that we haven't in the past."
"Since the implementation of the tool, it has cut down on probably 60% of our outages and letting us know what is going on."
"The integration to the other products that we use: NFA, we use ADA, we use Spectrum; and CAPM integrates all those into a single pane of glass, for performance."
"There is a good amount of vendor certification which comes with the product. That's all factory-loaded, no need to load any custom-made files. Most of the metrics are calibrated and captured from the devices based on the defaults available from vendor certification."
"The technical support from CA Performance Management was very good."
"Technical support is very responsive and knowledgeable."
"Nimsoft allows for long term data storage / trend analysis compared to preset SLA objects that allow for capacity planning to remove risks of downtime due to lack of resource provisioning."
"Provides a comprehensive monitoring solution for our open systems and also the mainframe."
"We have less downtime, and we have alerting to let us know when disks are filling up so that we get that taken care of before it becomes an issue and is noticeable to customers."
"We are able to configure alert by client requirements and can see those alert with a lot of detail."
"UIM is easy to use and configure and easy to implement and to get up and running out of the box."
"UIM met everything we needed and more when you consider other areas and departments with whom we work closely."
"By getting an early warning about problems, services can have high availability and perform well."
"It is very reliable and easy to implement."

Cons

"This may be available by now but for server space, when it comes to the disk file system, I'd like to see that graphically represented, or the trend, rather than what I'm seeing now."
"What we want to see: More integration inside of Spectrum and integration of role-based access."
"Some of the individual report views, the way some of the columns sort, there's room for improvement in giving us more flexibility in being able to sort reports based, for example, on what columns the metrics fall under."
"This may be available by now but for server space, when it comes to the disk file system, I'd like to see that graphically represented, or the trend, rather than what I'm seeing now."
"There are some issues. We started supporting UTA and began to see both major and minor problems."
"This solution is not very scalable."
"Spectrum's topology view sometimes does not rebuild automatically when a device is shut down and reconnected. It requires manual discovery and rebuilding of the topology, which I hope can be improved."
"It needs role-based administration."
"Stability."
"The biggest feature that I've been hoping they would enhance on is inventory management: things like adding/removing nodes."
"There are a few areas for improvement, but I would have to say some of the Java content is a little buggy and would definitely like to see continued upgrades and improvements in the GUI."
"They need to continue to advance the filter capabilities, and provide more input fields."
"Making a GUI with criteria such as selection by robot/hub/probe etc."
"The biggest feature that I've been hoping they would enhance on is inventory management: things like adding/removing nodes."
"There should be wider coverage of storage infrastructure."
"Since this solution is new to me, I don't know if it was properly scaled out for our environment to be as efficient and effective as it needs to be."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We were looking at other vendors in the marketplace for NetFlow, and CA just beat everybody else in price, cost, and the size to implement. "
"We purchase a license to use the solution every three years and we have multiple contracts. They have been increasing the price annually. We have a baseline for three years and then we need to pay the difference from the baseline, and we are in the process of negotiating a new price for all the licenses we need. The price overall is affordable."
"They should provide more scalable licensing for the product."
"I like the licensing model because it's device-based."
"The tool's pricing is based on the number of network devices."
"Do your homework and know how many devices you will be managing out of the gate. Be sure to project what your growth will be each year."
"The product-price ratio is better than other brands such as Fortinet or SonicWall."
"The license cost depends on the number of probes and robots."
"CAD $400,000 annually."
"This product is expensive compared to other vendors (SolarWinds, ManageEngine)."
"Pricing for DX Unified Infrastructure Management isn't cheap at all. It's a complex tool, so you have to pay more. No one is happy with a large bill to pay, but if it's a complex product and you designed a complex solution to be monitored, it'll be your fault that you need to buy an expensive product, and that would be implicit in the design of DX Unified Infrastructure Management. Monitoring is just a small part of it. Sometimes you have to pay a significant amount of money for a complex yet very good solution."
"Reasonable setup cost and licensing prices."
