We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Since it's widely adopted by the community, Apache Airflow is a user-friendly solution.""The best part of Airflow is its direct support for Python, especially because Python is so important for data science, engineering, and design. This makes the programmatic aspect of our work easy for us, and it means we can automate a lot.""The product is stable.""It's stable.""Development on Apache Airflow is really fast, and it's easy to use with the newer updates. Everything is in Python, so it's not hard to understand. They also have a graphical view, so if you are not a programmer and you are just an administrator, you can easily track everything and see if everything is working or not.""Its user-friendly interface makes it straightforward to operate, offering a plethora of features for data preparation, buffering, and format conversion.""The reason we went with Airflow is its DAG presentation, that shows the relationships among everything. It's more of a configuration-driven workflow.""The product integrates well with other pipelines and solutions."

"ARIS Reporting – Helps download valuable content from the tool in multiple formats.""Good at controlling the workflow and relevant key processes.""ARIS process modeling and analysis allows integration of end-to-end business processes with the organization's vision, strategies, and business objectives, through visual management.""The capability to integrate all information of the business and to generate simulations of processes. It can analyze the model of operations quickly.""I am an advanced user. ARIS BPM is intuitive for me because I know the UML, BPMN, and EPC methodologies implemented in this tool. It is very easy to create processes for restructuring a company with some descriptions.""It has the ability to scale up, as well as integrate with other systems within the organization to get real-time information from dashboards and reports.""The solution is user-friendly and easy to expose.""Business Process Analysis: We can simulate, optimize, and analyse business processes based on various business requirements. It assures our rolling out the best processes."

More ARIS BPA Pros →

"It has an open BPM""The best feature is the automation.""We have the ability to modify the product if we need to, and that comes in handy whenever we need to add new functionality and features.""For an internal project, this is a solution that you can install and have up and running quite quickly.""We have a lot of users, almost 1,800, and we needed something affordable, stable and something that could be used by a large financial company. This solution truly fit the bill.""The solution is good for data models.""The flexibility is great.""Easy to use and easy to integrate into the products and applications we provide for our customers."

Cons
"I want to see Apache Airflow have more integrations with more production-based databases since it is an area where the product lacks currently.""The dashboard is connected into the BPM flow that could be improved.""One specific feature that is missing from Airflow is that the steps of your workflow are not pipelined, meaning the stageless steps of any workflow. Not every workflow can be implemented within Airflow.""I would like to see some no-code capabilities and drag and drop abilities in Airflow.""The solution could be improved by simplifying the integration process.""There is an area for improvement in onboarding new people. They should make it simple for newcomers. Else, we have to put a senior engineer to operate it.""The automation capabilities could be improved; a visual workflow designer and a graphical tool to reduce coding would be very helpful. But for now, it's sufficient for our simple workflows.""For admins, there should be improved logging capabilities because Apache Airflow does have logging, but it's limited to some database data."

More Apache Airflow Cons →

"Simulation is one area that is a bit complex.""ARIS BPA is not really a platform that offers you the opportunity to execute processes that you model.""The Risk and Compliance Management tool is rather complex and moreover, it needs to be customized if you want to use it.""Integration with third-party tools should be improved (e.g. based on APIs).""I believe the solutions BPM tools are not very good and need improvements.""Regarding stability, when there are any customized settings being done at customer end - post upgrade to newer versions - it makes the customer environment unstable for a short duration.""The interface is a little archaic.""The model graphics can be exported in PDF, but the model is too small to read."

More ARIS BPA Cons →

"They could provide more documentation regarding the integration of different programming languages.""Customization and tech stack could be up-to-date.""When you search for Camunda BPM resources or books on how to utilize Camunda BPM, it is lacking. When it comes to Alfresco, there are thousands of resources that can help you to utilize within AWS and its Group Services. I would like to see the usage of Camunda BPM on Amazon Web Services be improved.""In terms of features, it meets my needs, but I would like Camunda to have an office in Brazil and provide training in Portuguese. They should provide regional support and training courses in Portuguese.""Camunda Platform's customer support could be improved because their response is quite slow.""Initial setup can be quite complex.""The user interface needs some polishing because it is too technical for end-users to use it.""It has a Postgres database at the backend, and it is very difficult to scale if you increase the number of processes running. We did hit some barriers. We were able to overcome them, but it was a problem. Camunda has another product called Camunda Cloud, which supposedly doesn't have the same scalability problems, but we are not using Camunda Cloud because the set of features is smaller than Camunda On-Premises. So, its scalability can be improved. Because it has a single database, it is more difficult to scale if you have a huge success."

    Overview

Apache Airflow is an open-source workflow management system (WMS) that is primarily used to programmatically author, orchestrate, schedule, and monitor data pipelines as well as workflows. The solution makes it possible for you to manage your data pipelines by authoring workflows as directed acyclic graphs (DAGs) of tasks. By using Apache Airflow, you can orchestrate data pipelines over object stores and data warehouses, run workflows that are not data-related, and can also create and manage scripted data pipelines as code (Python).

    Apache Airflow Features

Apache Airflow has many valuable key features. Some of the most useful ones include:

    • Smart sensor: In Apache Airflow, tasks are executed sequentially. The smart sensors are executed in bundles, and therefore consume fewer resources.
    • Dockerfile: By using Apache Airflow’s dockerfile feature, you can run your business’s Airflow code without having to document and automate the process of running Airflow on a server.
    • Scalability: Because Apache Airflow has a modular architecture and uses a message queue to orchestrate an arbitrary number of workers, you can easily scale it.
    • Plug-and-play operators: With Apache Airflow, you can choose from several plug-and-play operators that are ready to execute your tasks on many third-party services.

    Apache Airflow Benefits

There are many benefits to implementing Apache Airflow. Some of the biggest advantages the solution offers include:

    • User friendly: Using Apache Airflow requires minimal python knowledge to get started.
    • Intuitive user interface: The Apache Airflow user interface enables you to visualize pipelines running in production, monitor progress, and also troubleshoot issues when needed.
    • Easy integration: Apache Airflow can easily be integrated with cloud platforms (Google, AWS, Azure, etc).
    • Visual DAGs: Apache Airflow’s visual DAGs provide data lineage, which facilitates debugging of data flows and also aids in auditing and data governance.
    • Flexibility: Apache Airflow provides you with several ways to make DAG objects more flexible. At runtime, a context variable is passed to each workflow execution, which is quickly incorporated into an SQL statement that includes the run ID, execution date, and last and next run times.
    • Multiple deployment options: With Apache Airflow, you have several options for deployment, including self-service, open source, or a managed service.
    • Several data source connections: Apache Airflow can connect to a variety of data sources, including APIs, databases, data warehouses, and more.
