Simplifies snapshot recovery and improves compatibility challenges

What is our primary use case?

When we began with RecoverPoint, it was primarily a block IO replication solution between the storage systems. It is not at the level of VMs. Initially, we had limited experience with VMs. We are still working with IO splitting. It is a solution that integrates with the storage area network, SAN.

What is most valuable?

The generalization of the journals allows us to go back in time and choose the snapshot suitable for us. We can grab it as needed. It is very powerful in journalization, with the most user-friendly interface. It is a very simple tool to use and offers flexibility in using the tool for recovery and transitioning from one state to another. We can go back half an hour, one hour, or two hours before to get a cleaner image of the data.

We have PowerEdge servers and PowerStorage at both the main and Doctor sites. We use the solution to replicate virtual machines to another site in case of a disaster.

The speed and the footprint the solution uses regarding storage are great. Additionally, the integration with VMware is a very good feature.

Seamless data protection and IP address management streamline server failover

What is our primary use case?

I was actually just having a quick look to compare some solutions, but we are going to stick with what we currently have, which is Dell RecoverPoint for Virtual Machines.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is the ability to change IP addresses when failing a server over. Also, the Continuous Data Protection feature requires very little maintenance once the server is set up; it just runs in the background, which is beneficial.

My client was using the product to migrate his data center from one geographical area to another. We had to move the hardware to a new geographical area and move the VMs on the PCs, so it was used to migrate these VMs.

What is most valuable?

I heard from my team that the tool is quite useful, as you can do things much faster and better.

Has good stability but does not have multi-tenant capabilities

"The solution is quite stable. We haven't experienced any kind of bug or glitch. We haven't experienced crashes."

"The solution is not easy to use. It's actually quite hard. If it could be simplified it might be better for the end user."

What is most valuable?

Overall the product is really good. Unfortunately, it just didn't quite fit our needs.

What needs improvement?

The solution does not have multi-tenant capabilities. It's one of the reasons that we ultimately decided to move away from the solution.

The solution lacks cloud usability. If it did, it would be much better for us.

The solution is not easy to use. It's actually quite hard. If it could be simplified it might be better for the end user.

Point-in-time recovery is useful, but it should have a GUI option for recovering a group of virtual machines
